Quote of the Day

"Jed Babbin, editor of Human Events is reporting that the Obama White House has overridden objections from an internal inter-agency panel, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security and ordered the release of 17 Chinese Muslim Uighurs from GITMO.

The 17 were captured at an Al Qaeda training camp. The men may be released as early as next week, perhaps in the metro Washington, D.C. area.

Do you feel safer? That’s a question that GOP is asking in a new
web video. "

Hussein's Radical Agenda Takes Shape

Here's an interesting item from The Collectivist News … excerpts from today’s issue of The Union News

Obamalinsky’s first 100 days … arack Obama and his team are engaged in a long-running campaign with important milestones. What is his end goal? What should we look for in the meantime?

The evidence to date suggests that President Obama is not simply formulating his own goals, but has rooted it in the tactical prescriptions of leftist godfather Saul Alinsky.

Alinsky: “… taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people,” — according to Rules for Radicals: A Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals, by Saul Alinsky, 1971, Random House.
Many observers praised Mr. Obama’s “change we can believe in” slogan as clever marketing, but might it be more than merely clever? His “change” mantra, combined with an almost Reaganesque appeal to “hope,” were designed to calm the fears many people have concerning radical social change so that they would more readily embrace the full range of the agenda that Mr. Obama and his allies have in mind for America. 98. Killing the school voucher program in the District of Columbia, while sending his two daughters to an elite private school, rather than D.C.’s public schools.
99. Moving the Census out of the Department of Commerce and into the White House.
100. Relying too much on his teleprompter.

Outdated Voting Act Now Perpetuates Unfairness

Time for a real change...

Black Activists Ask U.S. Supreme Court to
Invalidate Outdated Section of Voting Rights Act

Washington DC - As the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments today in the voting rights case Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District Number One v. Holder, the Project 21 black leadership network is joining with other organizations to ask that this outdated portion of the Voting Rights Act be found unconstitutional.

"The racist boogeyman of the past is just that -- a thing of the past," said Project 21 Chairman Mychal Massie. "I think most people realize this, but the civil rights special interest lobby has been strong enough to keep this boogeyman alive to the legal detriment of our post-racial society. As we try to move forward, our children will continue to bear the burden of long-rectified mistakes."

At issue in Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District Number One v. Holder is whether the federal government still has a compelling reason to oversee and approve election practices in certain areas. When the Voting Right Act was renewed in 2006, Congress did not amend Section 5 of the Act -- which mandates this "preclearance" standard -- despite the concerns of voting rights scholars. The local Texas voting district officials challenging the Act say the standard exceeds Congressional authority under the Reconstruction-era 14th and 15th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Project 21 has joined a amici curiae ("friend of the Court") brief on the case with the Pacific Legal Foundation and the Center for Equal Opportunity.

In the brief, it is argued:
Changes in the social and political landscape cast doubt on, not only Section 5's relevance, but its constitutionality. These changes show that the justification for Section 5's remedial measures no longer exist. For instance, when the [Voting Rights] Act was enacted in 1965 there were few, if any, black elected officials in the South. But now black elected politicians make up an appreciable percentage of many state governments of the Deep South. Forty years ago the drafters of the Act understood that widespread and persistent intentional discrimination in voting occurred predominantly in the jurisdictions targeted, and typically entailed the willful misuse of tests and devices which Section 5 was specifically designed to remedy. But modern allegations of discrimination in voting may arise equally in both covered and noncovered jurisdictions, and involve a completely different array of problems which Section 5 is ill-suited to resolve.
For instance, the brief points out:
Today, the greatest majority of cases brought under the Act involve vote dilution claims which are not concentrated in any one part of the country and are addressed through Section 2 of the Act nationwide. Since 1990, the same number of Section 2 violations have occurred in Pennsylvania (a noncovered jurisdiction) as in South Carolina (a covered jurisdiction). Even more Section 2 violations occurred in New York.... The old style and systemic, race-based discrimination that made the Act necessary in 1965 exists only sporadically, if at all, while new allegations of minority voting problems stem from issues motivated by partisan politics rather than racial prejudice [such as long lines and ballot design].
A decision by the justices in the case of Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District Number One v. Holder is expected by the end of June. A copy of the brief Project 21 has joined can be obtained at http://tw5.us/UJ.

Project 21's Massie added: "The Voting Rights Act was first enacted during a time when skin color was considered enough to disqualify a man from full participation. Today, that same Act would bar people from full participation due to where they live -- regardless of their race. Where's the fairness in that?"

Project 21, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization sponsored by the National Center for Public Policy Research, has been a leading voice of the African-American community since 1992. He's Not Stupid - He's Your President

Erick.Erickson@redstate.com has bad news for Obamatrons...

How bad is it for Obama when he can't even handle a TelePrompTer?

Bad. Very Bad.

Obama gets out of sync with his best friend the TelePrompTer. The audience chuckles politely at his subsequent strained attempt at humor. What I think is funny besides the obvious is that he catches himself and stops before using the word "TelePrompTer".

If you can't trust your TelePrompTer, who can you trust? Can you imagine the field day Olbermann and friends would have had with Bush doing this, proving what a mental midget he was?

When a RINO becomes a DINO

And now a few choice words about that Specter fellow...

"Today, Senator Arlen Specter switched his party affiliation to the Democrat Party. I hope you will join me in saying “Good Riddance.”

While today’s party switch underscores how well Specter will fit in with his new Democrat colleagues, this act of political self-interest comes at a very serious cost. If Democrats succeed in stealing the election in Minnesota they will have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. This would amount to a blank check for Democrats to continue spending trillions of your tax dollars with ZERO accountability.

This supposedly was a concern for Specter when last month he stated:

"I am staying a Republican because I think I have an important role, a more important role, to play there. The United States very desperately needs a two-party system. That's the basis of politics in America. I'm afraid we are becoming a one-party system... I think as a governmental matter, it is very important to have a check and balance." - Sen. Arlen Specter, 3/17/09

But like his principles, I guess this no longer applies."

Guy Harrison, Executive Director
National Republican Congressional Committee

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

"I hope Arlen Specter's party change outrages you. It should for two reasons:

First--Specter claimed it was philosophical--and pointed his finger of blame at Republicans all over America for his defection to the Democrats. He told us all to go jump in the lake today.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe a word he said.

Arlen Specter committed a purely political and self-serving act today. He simply believes he has a better chance of saving his political hide and his job as a Democrat. He loves the title of Senator more than he loves the party--and the principles--that elected him and nurtured him.

Second--and more importantly--Arlen Specter handed Barack Obama and his band of radical leftists nearly absolute power in the United States Senate. In leaving the Republican Party--and joining the Democrats--he absolutely undercut Republicans' efforts to slow down Obama's radical agenda through the threat of filibuster.

Facing defeat in Pennsylvania's 2010 Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record, and an end to his 30 year career in the U.S. Senate, he has peddled his services--and his vote--to the leftist Obama Democrats who aim to remake America with their leftist plan.

As recently as April 9th, Senator Specter said he would run in the Pennsylvania primary next year as a Republican. Why the sudden change of heart? Clearly, this was an act based on political expediency by a craven politician desperate to keep his Washington power base--not the act of a statesman.

His defection to the Democrat Party puts the Democrats in an almost unstoppable position to pass Obama's destructive agenda of income redistribution, health care nationalization, and a massive expansion of entitlements.

Arlen Specter has put his loyalty to his own political career above his duty to his state and nation."

Quote of the Day

Swine Flu

"The outbreak of swine flu in Mexico has claimed at least 100 lives and effectively shut down the nation’s capital, Mexico City. More than 1,600 people are being treated in hospitals for flu-like symptoms throughout Mexico. Cases of the disease are popping up all over the world: Israel, New Zealand, Canada, Spain, and there have been 40 confirmed cases here in the United States, in California, Kansas, Ohio, New York and Texas.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano held an unusual Sunday press conference at the White House to declare a “national health emergency.” Meanwhile, the Health Commissioner for the European Union issued a statement urging Europeans to cancel travel plans to the United States and Mexico “unless it is very urgent.” The Associated Press reports that “Russia, Hong Kong and Taiwan said they would quarantine visitors showing symptoms of the virus amid a surging global concern about a possible pandemic.” And Japan, Thailand and Indonesia are installing thermal scanners to check people for fevers at key airports.

Now, here’s some perspective. Nobody knows how serious this may turn out to be. So far, there are more than 100 deaths, all of them in Mexico. But, according to the Centers for Disease Control, “Every year in the United States, on average 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu; more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, and; about 36,000 people die from flu-related causes.” But this flu has mutated from three different strains of swine, avian and human flu, and that has health officials unnerved.

Having said all that, the reaction of the Obama Administration strikes me as odd. In the middle of the day yesterday, the Secretary of Homeland Security held a press conference to declare a national health emergency. What would you expect to happen in a national health emergency? Closing the border until we figure out why the Mexican strain is worse? Travel restrictions, like the EU is suggesting? Deploying thermal scanners like those in Japan?

So far, we’re doing none of that. All we’re being told to do is wash our hands and cover our mouths when we cough. That’s what we tell kindergarteners. By the way, we go into this potential pandemic with no Secretary of Health and Human Services, the top 18 positions at HHS vacant and no Surgeon General.

At least one member of Congress is demanding that we close the border. Rep. Eric Massa (D-NY) issued a statement in which he wrote, “The public needs to be aware of the serious threat of swine flu, and we need to close our borders to Mexico immediately and completely until this is resolved. …I am making this announcement because I see this as a serious threat to the health of the American public and I do not believe this issue is receiving the attention it needs to have in the news.”

Virginians Choose Life

The Richmond Coalition For Life urges pro-life supporters to apply for the new license plate.

Choose Life Virginia License Plates to be issued on July 1, 2009

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles will begin issuing Choose Life license plates on July 1, 2009, using the 481 pre-paid applications submitted by State Senator Ken Cuccinelli.

Anticipating fabulous demand for the Choose Life plate, DMV and plate sponsor Richmond Coalition for Life encourage Virginia citizens who have not applied to apply directly on the DMV website starting July 2. The Richmond Coalition for Life (P.O. Box 17902 Richmond, VA 23226-7902) will however receive pre-paid applications, review them for completeness, and submit complete applications to DMV after the first week of July.

The Choose Life Team expresses grateful appreciation for the tremendous support and encouragement of so many Virginians and advocacy groups who worked tirelessly to promote the plate, obtain the required pre-paid applications, lobby members of General Assembly to vote for the bill and encourage Governor Kaine to sign the bill. All of the dedication and hard work now make it possible for Virginians to proudly display their Choose Life license plate starting in July 2009.

"Budget Cutting," Obama Style

You have probably heard about President Obama's commitment to cut $100 million in the next 90 days. Sounds like a lot of money, but not in a budget that is approaching $3.5 trillion.

To give you a frame of reference, that's the equivalent of someone earning $35,000 per year cutting $1 from their budget. That's one soda from the soda machine at the office ... quite a sacrifice to come up with in just 90 days...

In my own case, I believe that I am the only State Senator that has proposed more budget cuts than spending every single year for the last seven years... which are all the years that I have been in the Senate.

The Biggest Bailout Is Not for Americans

Numbers USA shares the hidden cost of allowing illegal aliens to defy our immigration laws.

Presenting Our New Taxpayer Burden Page

By Charles Breiterman, Friday, April 24, 2009

If the government were really honest about paying for amnesty, they would do something like they did with the $700 billion bank bailout last October, (the TARP). The leaders of the government would come before the American voters and say, “We need $999 billion to pay for amnesty for people who entered the country illegally.”

Liberal Know-Nothings

Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families, notes the hate-mongering of intolerant liberal fascists.

"Last Friday, I wrote about the reaction of the liberal media, political and Hollywood elites to the Tea Parties. Leftwing politicians denounced them as “shameful,” “despicable,” and “Astroturf.” Actress Janeane Garofalo told MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann that the protestors were just ignorant bigots. “They have no idea what the Boston Tea party was about,” she said. “They don’t know their history at all. It’s about hating a black man in the White House. …This is racism straight up…”

Amazing. The Left will tolerate naked men marching in homosexual “pride” parades and illegal aliens publicly mocking our immigration laws with mass protests in the streets. Heck, they’ll even bend over backwards to make sure the terrorist thugs in GITMO are afforded top-notch lawyers and all the rights and benefits of the very nation those thugs are trying to destroy.

But the Left has no tolerance whatsoever for men and women who don’t want a massive government debt to destroy their retirement and their children’s future standard of living. By the way, the Tea Party movement isn’t over. Our friends at the American Family Association are sponsoring more than 450 Tea Parties on July 4th. (Click here to learn more.)

I know this will come as a total shock to Ms. Garofalo and Mr. Olbermann, but conservatives are not a bunch of know-nothing racists. They do know what they are talking about. In fact, they know more than liberals! The latest Pew Research Center News IQ survey polled 1,000 adults nationwide on 12 issues that made headlines recently. Seven questions were related to economic news, and five questions were about politics or foreign policy. After analyzing the results, Pew reported, “Republicans received higher average scores on the quiz than both Democrats and independents.”

Abraham Lincoln once said, “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.” I hope Ms. Garofalo will consider following that advice the next time she is interviewed."

A Prayer for Moral Leadership

Let us pray for our nation,

Heavenly Father, Giver of all that is good, we pray for our morally wounded nation and its entire people.

The culture war between our people continues to grow, We are looking for hope and answers in the wrong places. Laziness is rewarded, while licentious lifestyles are never admonished. Our moral standards have been dumbed down little by little by little. Human life means so little during these times.

Our ego driven political leaders speak with forked tongues and convoluted logic. We are losing our liberties on a daily basis, while politicians buy votes with funds taken from the most productive members of our society.

Heavenly Father, we pray that you will put moral leadership into the hearts and minds of our decision makers. We pray for your protection of all the men and women serving our nation in foreign lands.

We Pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

THY WILL BE DONE.

AMEN

Tea Party Protests: Liberals Haven't a Clue

Today's edition of
Tax Day Tea Party included this interesting item from The Collectivist News … excerpts from today’s issue of The Union News.

News, actor unionists turn away customers … Just when you think the mainstream media has debased itself as much as possible, along comes some new example of further debasement, like when CNN’s Anderson Cooper used a term for a homosexual act to describe the protesters.

Proving it can be just as sleazy and disgusting as CNN, MSNBC picked up the slur and used it. What a horrible lesson for budding young journalists. This reprehensible episode reflects, perhaps better than any so far, just how biased mainstream journalism is, and how unprincipled and unprofessional its purveyors have become. Is it any wonder major newspapers are on the brink of bankruptcy and viewers are leaving the networks and major cable channels in droves?

On the aforementioned MSNBC, one guest said: “Which, let’s be very honest about what this is about. It’s not about bashing Democrats, it’s not about taxes … This is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up. That is nothing but a bunch of [homosexual act] rednecks. And there is no way around that.”

That analysis was offered by someone named
Janeane Garofalo who is reportedly a comedian and former co-host for an unsuccessful radio talk show on the failed Air America network. If you’ve never heard of her, perhaps these comments explain why: She isn’t funny and hasn’t a clue what these tea parties are all about.

A typical left-winger, she cannot imagine that intelligent individuals don’t agree with her, and she doesn’t know how to deal with it, except by insulting them. The behavior of liberals like Ms. Garofalo and the inappropriate and dishonest reporting of the media say far more about them than about the protesters and their concerns.

The $100 Million Flim Flam Man

President Obama's $100 Million Dollar Plan: Budget Analysts Promptly Burst Out Laughing
President Barack Obama ordered his cabinet to identify and trim a collective $100 million in administrative costs from their budgets. Obama is sneakily trying to change the argument from his ballooning deficit to the small cuts that he is proposing. Do not be fooled. This is just a PR gimmick. Despite these small cuts, your children and grandchildren will still be the victims of generational theft. He is still acting penny wise and dollar foolish when it comes to his spending policies.

Read What the Press Had to Say

AP: "Cut A Latte Or Two Out Of Your Annual Budget And You've Just Done As Much Belt-Tightening As President Barack Obama Asked Of His Cabinet On Monday. The thrifty measures Obama ordered for federal agencies are the equivalent of asking a family that spends $60,000 in a year to save $6. Obama made his push for frugality the subject of his first Cabinet meeting, ensuring it would command the capital's attention. It also set off outbursts of mental math and scribbled calculations as political friend and foe tried to figure out its impact. The bottom line: Not much." Considering his budget this year calls for over $3.9-trillion in spending, $100-million is the same percentage of reduction as taking a buck off the price of a $50,000 car." Quote of the Day

Back To Bizarro World

I have contended that President Obama appears to be operating in a “Bizarro World,” where logic goes out the window, up is down and right is wrong. We got more examples of that in recent days with the release of the CIA interrogation memos and the Summit of the Americas.

President Obama released the CIA interrogation memos last week over the objections of his CIA director and four former CIA directors. Yesterday, he went to CIA headquarters to give a pep talk to the men and women charged with the incredibly difficult task of defending this nation from the evil of Islamofascism. Here’s what he told them:
“I have put an end to the interrogation techniques described in those OLC memos, and I want to be very clear and very blunt. I’ve done so for a simple reason: because I believe that our nation is stronger and more secure when we deploy the full measure of both our power and the power of our values -- including the rule of law. …Don’t be discouraged that we have to acknowledge potentially we’ve made some mistakes.” How could they not be discouraged when the president of the United States has accused them of violating our values? How could they not be discouraged when prominent members of his party are demanding “truth commissions” and prosecutions of the very people who prevented terrorist attacks after 9/11?

Since President Obama has chosen to go down this road (accusing the Bush Administration of violating our values), former Vice President Dick Cheney is demanding that the administration declassify even more memos. Specifically, Vice President Cheney wants the CIA to release reports that document the information obtained from the interrogations and the success of the interrogations, “so we can lay them out there and the American people have a chance to see what we obtained and what we learned and how good the intelligence was.”

In addition to the dangerous release of the CIA interrogation memos was the president’s spineless behavior at the Summit of the Americas. There, President Obama embraced Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, who also attended a competing summit of socialist dictators, the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas. At that venue, Chavez rejected the Summit of the Americas and demanded a debate on how “capitalism is bringing about the end of humanity and the planet.” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs insists we were making progress. Really?

But the president also sat silently and dispassionately though a 50-minute anti-American diatribe by Nicaragua’s communist president, Daniel Ortega. In response to Ortega’s disgusting rant, the most President Obama could muster was to say, “I’m grateful that President Ortega did not blame me for things that happened when I was three months old.” It’s not about you, Mr. Obama, it’s about America! But after his “apology tour” in Europe and abject bow before the Saudi king, we shouldn’t be surprised.

President Obama appears to have learned well the anti-Americanism of Pastor Jeremiah Wright. In Europe, he repeatedly apologized for American history. In Latin America, he sat silently as thugs rhetorically attacked us – just as he sat silently for 20 years in the pews of a church where Wright preached, “God d--- America.”

This Friend of our Enemies is no Friend of America

Hussein, the terrorist's friend, throws America under the bus in his determined quest to destroy our country. Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families, has the story...

“Inexcusable Lapse”

Last week, President Obama made public previously secret details of the government’s interrogation methods used on suspected Islamic terrorists. Yesterday on Fox News Sunday, former CIA Director General Michael Hayden told host Chris Wallace that he, current CIA Director Leon Panetta and three other past CIA directors all objected. Hayden added that he called three top White House officials to warn against the declassification of this sensitive information.

Friday, Investors Business Daily published a scathing editorial entitled, “Inexcusable Lapse,” regarding the president’s decision to publicize the interrogation memos. Here are some excerpts: “We are told by President Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod that the president agonized for four weeks over the ‘weighty decision’ to make public memoranda detailing the specifics of the CIA’s tough interrogation of high-value terrorist detainees such as 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad. For most other presidents, it would have taken maybe four minutes, required little soul-searching and resulted in the opposite choice.

“…What could have possessed him to make public the steps our interrogators go through, the limits of pain and discomfort they (but not the prisoners) know they will not exceed, and the analytical classification and specific purpose of each of the various techniques? …

“What the president has given to our enemies is a treasure chest of defensive weapons. Within the caves of the mountainous Pakistan/Afghanistan border, Islamofascist plotters must wonder how self-destructively corrupt their American adversaries have to be to allow such materials to land in their hands. The piece of information that may be of most value to terrorists is the government’s assessment that waterboarding was ‘the most traumatic of the enhanced interrogation techniques’ and implicitly the most effective. ...Presumably the issue is academic since the Obama administration has officially prohibited waterboarding.

“There is no more valuable tool for subjects of interrogation than to know what they will be subjected to. How in good conscience could our president have given this gift to those trying to destroy us?”

Liberty Action Report: DHS Memo a Witch Hunt of Historic Proportions

Americans for Limited Government assess the ridiculous Department of Homeland Security memo.

Editorial
The American people have a right to know why the DHS is drafting political documents.

Editorial: DHS Memo a Witch Hunt of Historic Proportions

The sinister Department of Homeland Security memo issued to law enforcement entitled, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” last week drew the ire of millions of Americans. And now, it is raising serious new questions as to the scope and extent of investigative discretion possessed by the Department's Office of Intelligence and Analysis.

The American people clearly have a right to know why the Department of Homeland Security is drafting political documents, by what process these documents were drafted, who was responsible for writing them, who authorized them—and who is going to bear responsibility for such an outrage. To that end, Americans for Limited Government has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the Department demanding full disclosure.

ALG's Bill Wilson is asking for any and all documents related to the conception, drafting, and authorization of the memo, which unjustly targeted millions of Americans, political constituencies, veterans, and others as “extremists.”

In defining “rightwing extremism,” the Department memo targets “groups, movements, and adherents… that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority”. And, it singles out “groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”

The memo also painted perverse portraits of “disgruntled veterans” returning from war as being targets of recruitment by “right-wing extremists” without any substantiation.

Department Secretary Janet Napolitano said, “I have to tell you, I was the United States Attorney for Arizona in the 90's when Tim McVeigh bombed the Murrow building in Oklahoma City and unfortunately he was a vet—that's where he got his training. And so when I was told about the report, it rang true with me. This has happened in the past.” Yes, Ms. Napolitano, once—in 233 years.

Making the report's accusations all the more sinister—and threatening—it does not actually report any active recruitment by “right-wing extremists” of veterans: “DHS/I&A is concerned that rightwing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to boost their violent capabilities.” In fact, the report does not report any recruitment whatsoever: “The DHS/Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has no specific information that domestic rightwing terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues. The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment.”

This is simply stunning. If the purported “extremists” only may be gaining recruits, that means by implication that DHS does not have any intelligence that any groups actually are recruiting. They are then only surmising that the political and economic climate could present opportunities for recruitment—while chimerically smearing both conservatives and those the government contends may join them, alike.

And one is reminded of the Medical Dictionary's definition of “paranoia”: “Paranoia is an unfounded or exaggerated distrust of others, sometimes reaching delusional proportions. Paranoid individuals constantly suspect the motives of those around them, and believe that certain individuals, or people in general, are 'out to get them.'” Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler—and now Ms. Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security—come to minbd

The Obama DHS report is nothing short of a witch hunt. It must be openly and thoroughly rejected by the President. And all those responsible for initiating must be removed and forever barred from public service. Anything less could leave the door open to an enduring tragedy of historic proportions.

ALG CTA: Janet Napolitano's witch hunt is just the beginning. If you carefully read the memo, you are left with the impression that “It could be anyone!” Call the Department of Homeland Security's comment line at 202-282-8495 and let them know that they should be gathering intelligence on real threats and not ones perceived. And, that threat advisories should be specific to the actual threat.

Pew Study Shows Illegal Aliens Uneducated and a Burden to America's Health Care System

Last week, the Pew Hispanic Center released a report entitled A Portrait of Unauthorized Immigrants in the United States providing some of the most recent and detailed statistics available about illegal aliens living in the United States. These statistics reveal that at a time when America can least afford additional financial and economic burdens, illegal aliens are straining taxpayers in regards to health care, education, and other social services.

Quote of the Day

"Janet Napolitano must be FIRED... and it should have been done yesterday!

You see, the problem is not just that Janet Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) put together a so-called anti-terrorism security assessment that targets mainstream Americans as dangerous extremists.

We're talking about millions of people who believe that our government is too large and taxes us too much, like those who participated in the TEA Parties on tax day. We are talking about everyday Americans who believe that the 2nd Amendment actually gives people the right to bear arms; people who are pro-life; the millions of people who believe that our nation's immigration laws should be strictly enforced"

Quote of the Day

"When President Obama went to Turkey and had a photo-op in a major mosque and said nice things about Islam, perhaps he was just being a polite guest. But what explains the arrogance of the White House’s demands that Georgetown University cover up the monogram representing Jesus Christ during the president’s Tuesday address?

According to several news reports, the White House demanded that all “signage and symbols” be covered during the president’s speech Tuesday. Fox News reported that the White House “insisted that the move was made only to provide a proper setting for the speech.” What was the setting? A Catholic university founded by the Jesuits in 1789! Moreover, the president quoted the Sermon on the Mount during his address, which begs the question: Why would the president go to a Catholic university to deliver a speech quoting the Sermon on the Mount, and demand that a symbol of the sermon’s author be covered up?

What explains this odd behavior? The president goes overseas denies America’s cultural heritage and tells Muslim audiences about Islam’s contributions to America. He bows before Saudi Arabia’s Muslim king and the White House tries to deny it. Now he goes to a Catholic university and tries to turn it into a secular institution by demanding that religious symbols be covered up. Whoever is advising the president on protocol needs to be fired."

Freedom Fighters Needed

Tony Perkins, Family Research Action, gives his take on the nationwide protest held on April 15th.

Give Us Liberty, Not Debt!

There were no shots fired at this week's Tea Parties, but the thousands of Americans who gathered to protest the government's plans to burden families with more taxes had the same fire in their eyes as the patriots of 1775. Two hundred thirty-four years ago this Sunday, a group of Massachusetts Minutemen ignited our war for freedom that changed history. At a simple Concord bridge they stood against a heavily armed enemy and defended their homes-regardless of what it might have cost them. It was the courageous stand of these Minutemen that launched our young nation into independence.

Today, we stand at a similar crossroads. The stakes are high. Like our ancestors, we need an elite force that can fight for freedom at a moment's notice. It's time to rally together and protest the intrusion of government in our era as the Minutemen did in theirs. If you'd like to join our ranks, log on to www.frc.org and sign up with your cell phone number. We'll let you know when the anti-family threats are coming from Congress and the administration through text messages, giving you quick action steps that will arm you with the information you need to defend your families. Quote of the Day

"Tuesday, we commented on the Department of Homeland Security report indicting half of the country as potential “rightwing extremists” and domestic terrorists. Outrage has been building ever since, and DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano has apologized for at least one aspect of the report.

As we noted, the report was sweeping and vague in its use of language and seemed more interested in discrediting conservative philosophy rather than countering potential security threats. And it’s not just conservatives who were offended by the report – even the Democrat chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), said he was “dumbfounded.”

Rep. Thompson sent a letter to the Department demanding an explanation, saying that the report “blurred the line” between extremism and the freedoms of speech and association. He added that he was “disappointed and surprised that the department would allow this report to be disseminated.” He’s not the only one.

David Rehbein, National Commander of the American Legion, sent a letter to Secretary Napolitano blasting the report as “incomplete” and “politically-biased” for suggesting that veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan may be suspect. He closed his letter by reminding the secretary, “I think it is important for all of us to remember that Americans are not the enemy. The terrorists are.”

This morning on Fox News, Secretary Napolitano acknowledged the report’s overreaching language, saying, “To the extent veterans read it as an accusation, an apology is owed. The last thing I want to do is offend or castigate all veterans. …If there’s one part of this report that I could rewrite … it would be that footnote.” That’s a good start, but apologies are owed to many more Americans. I won’t hold my breath, however, waiting for the administration to apologize to Americans who believe in the sanctity of life or who want to see our immigration laws enforced."
