Quote of the Day

"I wanted to share a recent article discussing an agency memo to the Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (U.S.C.I.S.), Alejandro Mayorkas. The memo suggests that in-depth discussions have taken place at high levels on how to keep millions of illegal immigrants in the country. Although a spokesman for U.S.C.I.S. has tried to suggest that discussions are not tantamount to policy endorsements, I believe that there is no room for discussion on the question of amnesty. The answer is simply ‘no.’ You can read the article by clicking here."

Quote of the Day

"Have you noticed how President Obama seems to be everywhere, all the time, with an opinion on everything? Yet he has been strangely silent about the effort to build a 13-story mega-mosque at Ground Zero in New York, the site of the attack by Islamists on 9/11. Surely the issue is more than a local concern.

Ground Zero belongs to all Americans. It is hallowed ground. Three thousand of us were brutally murdered there by jihadists who killed us because we were “infidels.” Their fellow jihadists are even now plotting to deliver greater sorrows to us and all free men.

The group that is planning to build the mosque refuses to disclose where the estimated $100 million needed for construction is coming from. This has produced legitimate national security implications that are a federal responsibility.

The president was quite vocal when he did not want Jewish homes built in certain neighborhoods of Jerusalem. So why the silence about building on the sacred land of Ground Zero?

Call the White House at 202-456-1111 and urge the president to oppose building a mosque at Ground Zero."

Do Ask, We'll Tell!

Check out today's video clip with ADF Attorney Austin Nimocks for his take on how this repeal would silence Christians in all walks of military life.

Q: How will overturning this law affect military chaplains and other service members with faith-based convictions?

As Bob Maginnis points out in FRC's Mission Compromised booklet, introducing open homosexuals into the military would seriously impact chaplains. They may be censored from speaking against homosexual behavior in chapels or counsel a service member confused about his sexuality to abstain from homosexual conduct. What's more, they could face increased pressure to marry same-sex couples. These threats to religious liberty would make chaplains who stick by their convictions vulnerable, and some of them might choose leave the military altogether.

"On June 2, 2010, President Obama followed Berry’s lead by announcing that a whole range of marriage benefits, including adoption counseling, access to medical treatment, credit unions, and many more will be extended to same-sex partners of federal employees.

This move openly flouts the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage for all federal purposes as the union of one man and one woman.

While you and I acknowledge the right of all Americans to participate in our government, it seems clear there is a deliberate conspiracy to give preference to those who will uphold ... and even ADVANCE, AT ALL COSTS, LEGAL OR NOT ... the radical homosexual agenda.

We cannot let this happen! We must make our voice heard, for the sake of the next generation."

Tell Webb & Warner to vote NO! to Elena Kagan

***The Senate Judiciary Committee approved Kagan's nomination in a vote of 13-6. One Republican, Sen. Graham (R-SC), voted in favor of Kagan's nomination. Her nomination will now go before the full Senate with a vote expected in the next few weeks.***
Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) has announced he will oppose Kagan's nomination.
Call your Senator now!

10 Reasons to Call your Senator about the Kagan Hearings

It's time to let your voice be heard on the Kagan nomination!

1. Elena Kagan brings no judicial experience to the table.

2. The Supreme Court will likely hear arguments on the constitutionality of Obamacare in the next few years. Elena Kagan could be the deciding vote on Obamacare.

3. Elena Kagan is a political ideologue-she has worked for a string of liberal Democrats including: Bill Clinton, Janet Reno, Barack Obama and Eric Holder.

4. As Dean of Harvard's Law School, Elena Kagan banned US military recruiters from the campus. She lost her battle when the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the law in 2006.

5. Elena Kagan's stand on several social issues could demonstrate that she would impose personal views in her rulings instead of adhering to the law. We need justices who will strictly interpret the constitution.

6. Elena Kagan has praised Israeli activist Judge Aharon Barak as "her hero." Judge Barak is considered to be one of the worst activist judges. In his book, The Judge in a Democracy, Barak writes, "a good judge is a judge who, within the bounds of legitimate possibilities, makes law that, more than other law he is authorized to make, best bridges the gap between law and society and best protects the constitution and its values. He also says that judges should go "beyond actually deciding the dispute."

7. Elena Kagan is a Litigation Committee member of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). The AAUP is censoring a long list of conservative schools.

8. Elena Kagan has a troubling record on the Second Amendment.

9. There are surprisingly few pieces of documentation representing Kagan's beliefs and where she stands on the issues.

10. Elena Kagan has donated over $12,050 to Democratic campaigns over a span of 8 years.

Contact your Senator TODAY to tell them NO to another judicial activist justice Elena Kagan!

NAACP: Throwing stones from glass houses

Past time to stop the hate against black conservatives...

NAACP Pledges to Issue Statement Condemning Racist Attacks on Black Conservative

Washington, D.C. - Project 21 Fellow Deneen Borelli received a pledge from an NAACP senior vice president that the NAACP will issue a statement repudiating racist statements made against her because she is an outspoken black conservative.

On the July 17 edition of "Geraldo At Large" on the Fox News Channel, Borelli appeared on a panel discussion about race and politics with NAACP senior vice president Hilary Shelton.

During the discussion, Borelli asked Shelton if the NAACP would issue a statement condemning those who expose her to race-based abuse because she is an outspoken black female with views.
To follow is the Borelli-Shelton exchange on "Geraldo At Large":
Borelli: "I'm a black, female conservative. I'm often targeted by individuals who call me all kinds of names: racist, an Uncle Tom, a traitor - you name it. I'd like to know if the NAACP will issue a statement condemning those individuals who were doing that."

Shelton: "Why, yes, ma'am... Just give us some details... The very broad answer is... yes, we repudiate anybody calling you a bad name in the political arena."
Shelton added that the NAACP repudiated past assaults on Bush Administration cabinet members General Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice.

A video of the exchange can be seen at http://tw0.us/Kw2.

Borelli has been called the n-word by liberal critics, as well as other epithets such as "house negro," "Stepin Fetchit," "Sambo," "Uncle Tom," "Auntie Tom" and a "pitiful excuse of a human being," among many others.

Project 21 will send a detailed letter to Shelton chronicling some of the past racist statements made against Borelli and other Project 21 members.

Last week the NAACP passed a resolution they will unveil later this year that calls on leaders of the tea party movement to denounce alleged racism in their ranks. There was no similar action regarding progressive mistreatment of black conservatives.

"I hope that Hilary Shelton's pledge on 'Geraldo At Large' to have the NAACP officially repudiate racially abusive statements about black conservatives was earnest and not just a way to get out of a tight squeeze," said Borelli. "The era of the wink-and-nod use of the race card in politics must end."

Borelli added: "Progressives cannot hurl stones at the tea party movement for alleged racist behavior without hitting a few of their own glass houses. There is a particularly strong and sinister vitriol reserved for black conservatives, and it is wrong for the NAACP not to recognize it and demand it be stopped. I am looking forward to Hilary Shelton making good on his pledge to speak out against it."

Project 21, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization sponsored by the National Center for Public Policy Research, has been a leading voice of the African-American community since 1992.

Quote of the Day

"Sen . Graham insisted that the Senate "should have a special and strong reason for the denial of confirmation." How about personally twisting the opinion of two medical groups to advance the killing of half-delivered babies? Or using her power to shun the U.S. military from college campuses in a time of war? Yet Sen. Graham insists she "passes [the] test." "[The Constitution] puts upon me a standard that's stood the test of time," he said. "Is the person qualified?" Absolutely not. She has zero experience as a judge. The only relevant legal experience she does have is as a political lawyer. "Is it a person of good character?" The plot to substitute her own judgment for that of trained physicians' shows, at the very least, that Kagan is devoid of any professional standards.

"Are they someone that understands the difference between being a judge and being a politician?" In her graduate thesis, she took the idea of judicial activism to new heights, writing that it is "not necessarily wrong" for judges "to mold... the law in order to promote certain ethical values and achieve certain social ends." In each of these categories, Elena Kagan doesn't even measure up to Sen. Graham's own standards! Unfortunately for Republicans, his absurd rationalization of Kagan leaves them virtually powerless to block her on the Senate floor. By abandoning conservatives, Sen. Graham pushed Democrats across the 60-vote threshold they need to stave off any procedural challenges. And by abandoning Americans, he may have pushed the court into a bold new era of political activism."

Tell the NAACP to Stop their Smears!

The race card is played when all else has failed. It was inevitable that it would eventually be used aggressively against the tea party movement. First, we were called disgruntled voters, and then Speaker Pelosi said our movement was nothing more than "Astro Turf" and laughed it off. Next the DNC released an ad calling us an "angry mob." And now, according to the NAACP, we're racist!

Not only is the NAACP accusing the tea party movement, but the media is taking the words from one person to smear the whole movement.

"Change the subject by calling your opponents racists. If this sounds familiar, it should. It worked for the Left during the 2008 campaign, so it has continued doing it for the past 18 months. “Racism” became the Left’s retort to any policy disagreement. Whether it was town hall protestors worried about ObamaCare, Tea Party activists worried about out-of-control spending or Obama’s policy toward Israel, in the fevered brows of liberals, racism was always the culprit motivating every critic.

With a media establishment so willing to protect him – even willing to ignore the virulent anti-Americanism and racism of Jeremiah Wright – it’s no surprise that Obama feels free to distort the truth to advance his agenda."

"So, we’ve got a cartel using Hezbollah sophistication to murder Mexican police. In Juarez. Google map it. You can spit into Juarez from El Paso and it’s on the Arizona border. That would be the area that the US government says you should stay out of because of armed drug gangs. That would be the border with no fence. No physical security.

Gee, I wonder where the drugs the cartel sells are going? Couldn’t possibly be into Texas and Arizona could it? Yeah, I didn’t think so either. After all, the only people who cross our southern border are those hard working family types looking to make a better life for their children. Except why did the administration that Ms. Napolitano flacks for put up signs in our desert – thirty miles from Phoenix – warning that we should stay out?

I can’t wait for the cartel to set one off in El Paso or Tucson or Phoenix. It will of course be George Bush’s fault."

Republicans Leaders in Virginia Adhere to Sound Principles of Government

EARLY ECONOMIC SUCCESSES SHOW WHAT CONSERVATIVE LEADERSHIP CAN DO

When Governor McDonnell and I took office in January, we set two key goals for our first year in office:

  • Getting Virginia's economy moving again and creating jobs for Virginia's families, and

  • Eliminating the $4.2B budget shortfall we inherited and turning our budget shortfalls into surpluses again.

This week we delivered on both of those promises.

Turning Shortfalls Into Surpluses

On Wednesday, Governor McDonnell announced that Virginia ended the 2010 fiscal year with a $220M budget surplus. That is an amazing accomplishment given the fact that six months ago we were facing a $1.8B budget shortfall in the 2010 fiscal year.

There are three factors that helped us accomplish this positive result.

  • Earlier this year we made the difficult decisions that were necessary to reduce spending and bring our budget into balance without raising taxes.

  • We used incentives to encourage state agencies to save money, rather than spend their entire budget in the final months of the fiscal year, and

  • We are beginning to see the positive effects of economic growth in Virginia.

As a result of this surplus, we will be able to invest in some important government programs.

For example, $18M will be directed to Virginia's public schools; approximately $20M will be dedicated to the Transportation Trust Fund; $22M will go to the water Quality Improvement Fund; and $82M will be used to provide a 3% bonus for state employees, who have not received a pay raise in three years.

We will appropriate the remaining surpluses later this year in accordance with statutory requirements and final financial calculations.

Creating Jobs For Virginia's Families

On Thursday, Governor McDonnell and I gave an update on our efforts to get Virginia's economy moving again and create jobs for Virginia's families. Fortunately, it was more good news.

Since February 2010, Virginia has added 71,500 net new jobs. This is the third highest jobs creation rate in the nation.

During the first six months of the administration, Virginia has closed 110 economic development deals, which will eventually create over 7,100 new jobs and more than $1B in capital investment.

Interestingly, 80% of these new jobs have been created in the private sector, as opposed to the public sector; and the new jobs announcements have been evenly distributed across our state, with significant economic development occurring in rural parts of Virginia, where it is really needed.

These positive results show that we are on the right track. We are working hard and we are making smart decisions that will better position Virginia to take advantage of a future economic resurgence.

Despite these positive results, we still have a lot of work to do to lead Virginia to a period of greater economic prosperity. We will not stop until we return our unemployment rates to historic levels and every Virginian has the opportunity to access to a good paying job.

Likewise, we will keep our focus on controlling government spending and making certain that our budgets are balanced.

These results show what conservative leadership can do and how government can work for the people when it adheres to sound principles. Wouldn't it be great if we could get our friends in Washington to take a page from the Virginia playbook?

"...An official for the Justice Department confirmed this week that sanctuary cities, so named because they explicitly violate federal immigration law, won’t be sued.

A spokeswoman for Attorney General Eric Holder told the Washington Times, “There is a big difference between a state or locality saying they are not going to use their resources to enforce a federal law, as so-called sanctuary cities have done, and a state passing its own immigration policy that actively interferes with federal law.”

This logic is backwards. It is the sanctuary cities that are interferring with federal law, while Arizona is trying to help the federal government enforce its own laws!

Thankfully, Senators Jim DeMint (R-SC) and David Vitter (R-LA) are proposing an amendment that would deny funding to the Justice Department for any federal lawsuit against the Arizona law. Their amendment may get a vote next week. It will be interesting to see how many senators side with the overwhelming majority of the American people and vote to end this nonsense."
