Quote of the Day

"President Obama's Middle East policy for the last two years has been simplistic and wrong. He reached out repeatedly to the Islamic world while lashing out at Israel. He acted as if the biggest issue facing the region was whether homes for Israelis were built in East Jerusalem. Under his watch Lebanon has sunk under the control of Hezbollah, Turkey has abandoned its traditional commitment to secular government, Iran's power has grown and Egypt is in turmoil with unpredictable outcomes. Meanwhile, we have a president with virtually no foreign policy experience other than his well-honed ability to apologize for America's alleged "sins.""

Quote of the Day

"Since the economy does not want green jobs, the State must force them into existence… and yes, this is an exercise of compulsive force, since it takes funds away from taxpayers, and uses them to force labor into channels undesired by the private sector. These green projects are far less efficient and productive than rational uses of energy and industrial technology, so large amounts of spending are necessary to make the economy accept them."

Quote of the Day

"In his State of the Union address Tuesday night, President Obama expressed his intention to mandate the use of alternative "green" energy sources when he said the following: "So tonight, I challenge you to join me in setting a new goal: By 2035, 80 percent of America’s electricity will come from clean energy sources."

For the record, about half of our electricity currently comes from coal, but Obama wants to bankrupt coal companies. (His words, not mine.) Natural gas and nuclear power provide about 20% each. Coal, gas and nuclear power generate 90% of our electricity. Wind power provides about 2% and solar provides 1%.

Germany is often cited by liberals as a model of "clean energy investment," so how's that going for them? Not well at all. As Christopher Horner warns in the Daily Caller, the German Ministry of Economic Affairs is concerned that the country will experience blackouts because it is not able to meet European Union "clean energy" mandates of just 20%! Spain has also come up short in its pursuit of mythical "green jobs."

If the nations with the most "investments" in "clean energy" can't make them work, why should American taxpayers be forced to repeat their failures? Our economy will need fossil fuels for many, many years. Obama's attempts to deny reality are delusional."

"Two years ago, when Barack Obama became our president, unemployment was 7.8 percent and our national debt stood at what seemed like a staggering $10.6 trillion. We wondered whether the president would cut spending, reduce the deficit, and implement real job-creating policies.

"Unfortunately the president's strategy for recovery was to spend a trillion dollars on a failed stimulus program, fueled by borrowed money. The White House promised us that all the spending would keep unemployment under 8 percent.

"Well, not only did that plan fail to deliver, but within three months the national jobless rate spiked to 9.4 percent."

George Allen Statement on State of the Union

- Washington Speeches Must be Matched with Action, Visions of Role of Government Contrast

Mt. Vernon, VA – President Barack Obama tonight spoke to a joint session of Congress and the nation in the annual State of the Union address. George Allen issued the following statement:
“No one disputes that President Obama is a gifted orator, but we need the right actions more than the right words. People want to reverse job-destroying policies and instead unleash America’s businesses and entrepreneurs to create jobs.

“Since Senator Jim Webb went to Washington and embraced the liberal policies of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, we have had rising joblessness and skyrocketing national debt. Talk of simply freezing spending now is much more than a day late and trillions of dollars short.

“I’m one who believes that if government reduces burdensome regulations, keeps taxes low, and unleashes our plentiful energy resources then entrepreneurs in the private sector will innovate and create jobs so more Americans can achieve their dreams.”

Quote of the Day

"Obama will demand more spending but he will call it "investments." He remains committed to raising taxes on our most successful job creators. Then there is the idea that Obama is now a great advocate of less government regulation. They have to be kidding!

The Wall Street Journal did a little digging and discovered a loophole the size of an ocean liner in Obama's recent order to the bureaucracy to deregulate. The order directs the bureaucrats to consider whether a regulation hurts job growth. But is also directs them to balance that consideration against "values that are difficult or impossible to quantify including equity, human dignity, fairness and distributive impacts."

The Environmental Protection Agency, increasingly known as the "Employment Prevention Agency," has already issued a statement that Obama's new deregulation rule would not require it to alter a single current or pending rule. Since the EPA is daily using regulation to destroy jobs in the oil and coal industries among others, it should be clear that Obama's reform is no reform at all. It is just a smoke screen designed to hide his radical agenda from voters."

Exploding Liberal Myths

Event to Spotlight Super Bowl Hoax

WASHINGTON / January 24, 2011 – Christina Hoff Sommers, author of Who Stole Feminism? will headline a press conference to be held in Washington, DC on Thursday, January 27, 12:00 – 1:30pm. The conference, “Super Bowl Hoax Anniversary,” will reveal how the original domestic violence hoax was engineered, and document how the abuse industry continues to distort the truth of partner abuse.

Other panelists include Philip Cook, author of Abused Men, and Carl Starling, who was himself a victim of a false accusation of domestic violence. Phyllis Schlafly will emcee the panel.

The Super Bowl Hoax, which occurred on January 28, 1993 falsely claimed that more women are victims of domestic violence on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year. The disinformation scheme spawned many other myths about intimate partner aggression. A full account of the incident can be seen here: http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/superbowl.asp

The event is sponsored by the Eagle Forum and by Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE), and will be held at the Heritage Foundation, 214 Massachusetts Ave., NE, Washington DC.

“For years, the domestic violence industry has used taxpayer money to scare American women into believing they are safer on the streets than at home,” notes Phyllis Schlafly of the Eagle Forum. “That’s ridiculous, of course. The safest place for women is in an intact, married relationship.”

Last week SAVE released a report that documents how most abuse programs distort the facts about partner violence. The report, “Most DV Educational Programs Lack Accuracy, Balance, and Truthfulness” concludes that 9 out of 10 abuse education programs fail to meet minimum standards of accuracy:

One such myth is the claim that “domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44.” According to University of Pennsylvania researcher Richard Gelles, “as good a sound bite as it is, the statement is simply not true.” The leading causes of injury to women are unintentional falls, motor vehicle accidents, and over-exertion, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Another Pretty Phrasing of Empty Rhetoric Tonight

Black Conservatives Comment on the Needs of the Nation Prior to Obama's State of the Union Address

Washington, D.C. - Black conservatives with the Project 21 leadership network have low expectations regarding the State of the Union Address.

While Project 21 members see a nation looking for reassurance that the government is acting in its best interest and focusing on the key issues of economic stability and job creation, they do not expect more than rhetoric from President Obama.

"When the polite applause and the partisan demonstrations of loyalty cease in the wake of tonight's address, will we have seen anything more than the same campaign-style rhetoric we have come to expect from this president? I don't think so," said Project 21 Chairman Mychal Massie. "Despite his get-tough talk of late on spending and his alleged epiphany on regulations, there is no getting around the fact that Barack Obama's spending leaves George W. Bush's disregard for the taxpayers' burden in the dust. There is no getting around the fact that Obama's heavy-handed regulatory agenda is set up to continue his agenda where the peoples' new representatives are being told to hold the line. What I expect is a deceptively stylish speech from a desperate man who hopes to convince a very worried nation that he possesses the leadership they need. Unfortunately, he does not."

Project 21's Kevin Martin added: "I don't believe President Obama's speech tonight will do much more than instill a short-term aura of confidence in his leadership. And, even then, there are fewer and fewer left who are likely to believe him. I expect the address to be long on new ideas and policies, but short on how they can be funded without further contributing to our exploding national debt. Furthermore, Obama will likely ignore his vote against increasing the debt ceiling from when he was a senator, instead asking for a blank check to tackle our economic woes in the only way he seems to know how -- more spending. Supporters hope Obama's speech will set a course for the remainder of his term. Before he can do that, however, Obama must actually take control of the currently rudderless ship of state."

Project 21 full-time fellow Deneen Borelli added: "President Obama should end his war on fossil fuels by having the EPA immediately cease his plan to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and ease drilling restrictions in the Gulf of Mexico. These actions would eliminate the air of uncertainty surrounding businesses who are hesitant to invest in manufacturing facilities and stimulate job creation through exploration of our natural resources. By now, Obama should realize his pledge to make energy prices "skyrocket" is bad for business investment and job creation."

Project 21, a leading voice of black conservatives since 1992, is sponsored by the National Center for Public Policy Research (http://www.nationalcenter.org)

A Prayer to Build Conservative Values in Politics

Dear Father,

The elections are over --- You have given us a great victory. You have given us a Republican House in Congress and in the legislature. You have sent these politicians a clear message. We believe Your instructions to them must be obeyed.

We can not yet judge whether this congress and legislature are going to take your guidance seriously. There are indicators that the GOP elites are floating trial balloons and erecting straw-men to sample public opinion and political risk when they waffle on the clear directions You sent them.

They are pondering which of your conservative principles are negotiable and which can be ignored.

Father, we are your people, and tonight we pray that you will focus our attention and energies on these weak and self-serving politicians.

It is our prayer that You will guide us --- that we may reconnoiter their every vote. So that we may launch a grass-roots counterattack, to overwhelm them with massive reproof --- otherwise, we stand no chance of protecting Your great gifts of freedom and our beloved Constitution from further damage.

Show us Your way Father, to bring those politicians to heel, who would stray, who would waffle and equivocate --- and who would only pretend to be with us as we strive to restore the Founder's vision.

Father, your task to us, your people, seems clear.

We believe You are directing us to build --- and --- cross over a new bridge of conservative values in politics --- at all levels. If we do this, I believe You will lead us to a brighter future --- borne of Your love and wisdom in Philadelphia in the hot summer of 1787.

If it is Your will --- we will further this noble creation of yours --- a free government in Your image.

In Jesus' Name We Pray,

Amen.

"The question is, and this is what Barack Obama didn't want to answer, is that human life a person under the Constitution? And Barack Obama says no. Well, if that human life is not a person, then I find it almost remarkable for a black man to say, 'Now we are going to decide who are people and who are not people.'

"For decades certain human beings were wrongly treated as property and denied liberty in America because they were not considered persons under the constitution. Today other human beings, the unborn of all races, are also wrongly treated as property and denied the right to life for the same reason; because they are not considered persons under the constitution. I am disappointed that President Obama, who rightfully fights for civil rights, refuses to recognize the civil rights of the unborn in this country."

A Prayer for the Victims of the Tucson Tragedy

We have much to pray about. We have much to be thankful for.

According to the most recent census, our nation has a population of over 308 million people. When tragedy strikes we are all hurt and saddened. Such was the case coming out of Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, January 8th, 2011.

Let us pray:

Our Heavenly Father, we pray for the souls of those six people who lost their lives in the Tucson Tragedy. Let us remember each of them by call out their names:
  1. Federal Judge John Roll
  2. Gabriel M. Zimmerman, 30 year old congressional aide
  3. Christina Taylor Green, 9 year old third grader
  4. Dorothy Morris, 76 retired with her husband George, who was shot twice while trying to shield her
  5. Dorwan Stoddard, 76. Mr. Stoddard died while trying to protect his wife, Mavy
  6. Phyllis Schneck, 79. She lost her husband Ernest in 2007.
We pray for the families of these six victims and that they will find peace and comfort in God's love.

We pray for the 13 injured people, some of whom were severely wounded, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. We pray our Heavenly Father that you will grant Mrs. Giffords and the remaining twelve complete recoveries.

We pray for the safety of our service men and women around the world.

We pray in the name of the God of Abraham and our lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

REPEAL, DEFUND, REPLACE~

Black Conservatives React to House Repeal of ObamaCare

Washington, D.C. - With the U.S. House of Representatives voting today to completely repeal last year's legislation to begin a federal government takeover of the nation's health care apparatus, members of the Project 21 black leadership network are reacting:

Bishop Council Nedd II: "Today's bipartisan vote in the House to repeal ObamaCare is not an end to the debate but a beginning. It is the clarion call for a larger effort to begin improving our health care system using free market solutions such as tax incentives that promote individuals' choices, tort reform and an end to mandates that put bureaucrats in control of personal health choices." (Project 21 member Council Nedd II is a bishop with the Episcopal Missionary Church who lives near Pittsburgh.)

Cherylyn Harley LeBon: "While we recognize that the repeal of ObamaCare will face an uphill battle, we need to remember the reasons why it is necessary to do it: repeal will promote job growth by preventing the implementation of mandates and penalties; stop an additional $500 billion increase in new taxes and prevent a massive new entitlement our country simply cannot afford." (Project 21 member Cherylyn Harley LeBon is a former senior counsel on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee who lives in northern Virginia.)

Ak'Bar Shabazz: "Although conservatives likely have little chance of completely overturning the liberal power grab they called health care reform right now with this particular bill, the symbolism should be applauded. Government spending over the past few years, and especially under President Obama, is threatening to surpass legal levels. Having the federal government additionally assume control of over nearly 20 percent of the existing American economy is a measure that is sure to end in costly inefficiencies, fraud and unsustainable debt that will cripple future generations." (Project 21 member Ak'Bar Shabazz is a small business owner who lives in the Atlanta metro area.)

R. Dozier Gray: "ObamaCare ought to be repealed, but not because of the results of the mid-term elections nor current political polls. ObamaCare needs to be repealed because the bill passed last March is flawed, partisan and premised on -- to put it mildly -- questionable constitutional grounds. Lawmakers must go on record now and often to advocate the repeal of all or parts of this scheme. The debate must not die. Those who want to kill the debate prematurely do so only because they realize the truth is not on their side." (Project 21 member R. Dozier Gray, is an analyst who lives in northern Virginia.)

Quote of the Day

"Here are a few lines from President Obama's speech that grabbed my attention:

"But what we cannot do is use this tragedy as one more occasion to turn on each other. …And if, as has been discussed in recent days, their death helps usher in more civility in our public discourse, let us remember it is not because a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy -- it did not -- but rather because only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to the challenges of our nation in a way that would make them proud."

When I heard those words, I wondered if I was the only one who thought that Obama had just repudiated his left-wing base. I wish the president had spoken out more forcefully on this matter, but last night Obama told Paul Krugman and Keith Olbermann that they were wrong -- a lack of civility did not cause this tragedy. Unfortunately, as you will read in the next item, there is little evidence that his media and political allies are ready to heed his call for a more "civil and honest public discourse."

I also hope that the president will take his own advice. Last night he said, "at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who happen to think differently than we do, it's important for us to … make sure that we're talking with each other in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds."

That's good advice. And I hope the candidate who once urged his supporters to argue with neighbors and to "get in their face," who accused some Americans of being "bitter and clinging to their guns and religion" and who said that liberal voters should "punish our enemies" will follow it in the days ahead. Given that Obama remains committed to an agenda of bigger government, higher taxes, abortion-on-demand, the redefinition of marriage and appeasing the Muslim world, I'm not optimistic."

"The media is intent on yet again exploring right-wing rhetoric and tea party hate. Left-wingers yesterday were falling all over themselves to blame everyone on the right for the horrific shooting.

The media today, as it begins more expansive reporting, will not let the facts get in the way of making the right, yet again, responsible for violence it neither incited nor enabled. In the process, the media’s credibility will continue to shrink.

By the way, as an exit thought, the tea party movement won in November. Winners don’t go on shooting sprees."

"Electric day-glo blue suit, perfectly coiffed and streak-blonde dyed hair, perfectly frozen smile, perfect oleaginous delivery, Pelosi Galore thought the moment was all about her with her endless and endlessly obnoxious self-serving speech - 12 minutes! Would she ever shut up? - before finally turning the gavel and speakership over to John Boehner."

Howard Dean Gets a Smack Down

Black Conservatives: Dean Does Disservice to Tea Party, Older Americans By Playing Race Card

Washington, D.C. - Howard Dean, a former presidential candidate and former head of the Democratic National Committee, opened up the new year on a hateful note by playing the race card against "tea party" supporters of limited government.

Members of the Project 21 black leadership network are condemning Dean's lack of decorum and him simplistic interpretation of the historic midterm elections.

"Obviously struck and frustrated by the complete rejection of progressive policies and the reality of a host of new tea party-backed members of Congress coming to Washington, Howard Dean threw a verbal tantrum and made unfounded claims eluding to racism being a big factor. He should be ashamed of himself," said Project 21 fellow Deneen Borelli.

At a breakfast meeting held by The Christian Science Monitor on January 5, Dean, who was commenting on the conservative shift on Capitol Hill, implied that opposition to the policies of the Obama Administration had much to do with the President's race. Dean said: "I think it's the last gasp of the 55-year-old generation... It's a group of older folks who have seen their lives change dramatically... They don't know what to do. It's just a huge change. They never thought the day would ever come. Every morning they see the President they're reminded that things are totally different than when they were born."

"I'm black, nowhere near 55 and a strong supporter of the less government, less taxes and spending and increased freedom that the tea parties embody," said Borelli. "For Howard Dean to throw rhetorical bombs implying racial animosity is irresponsible and actually quite hateful itself. Breeding discontent is not going to create jobs. Listening to new ideas will."

"Dean may be right that many tea partiers are older and many more are whiter than me, but I don't see the racial panic Dean infers. I am a 25-year-old black college student who has spoken frequently at tea party rallies, and I receive applause and cheers for speaking from my heart about individual responsibility, the values of hard work and American exceptionalism," said Project 21 member Jerome Hudson.

Hudson continued: "Dean's comments are of a consistent and tactical narrative meant to spin the situation. The midterm election proved that the tea party message of less spending, lower taxes and a constrained federal bureaucracy won with American voters. In response, Dean and others on the left appear ready to play the race card to shore up any remaining vestiges of power."

Borelli added: "Dr. Dean's analysis is a complete misdiagnosis of the tea party and the issues that are driving political change in America. With such flawed judgment, it's a good thing Dean is no longer practicing medicine. The tea party is a remedy to the toxic policies of the Obama agenda. The recent progressive legislative and regulatory stranglehold brought high unemployment and three dollars a gallon gasoline. You don't need a medical degree to see the real cause of what's unsettling to Americans and how -- as a body politic -- they are treating what's ailing them."
