Quote of the Day

"We believe that in every life there is goodness; for every person, there is hope.  Each one of us was made for a reason, bearing the image and likeness of the Lord of Life.

"We have responsibilities, one to another -- we do not each face the world alone.  And the greatest of all responsibilities, is that of the strong to protect the weak.  The truest measure of any society is how it treats those who cannot defend or care for themselves.

"Each of these great moral ideas is essential to democratic government -- to the rule of law, to life in a humane and decent society.  They are the moral creed of our country, as powerful in our time, as on the day of America's founding.  They are self-evident and unchanging, and sometimes, even presidents need reminding, that our rights come from nature and God, not from government."

Best Idea of the Day

End funding of Planned Parenthood in Virginia!

Right now, PPH receives more than $363 million in revenue from government grants and contracts, funded by OUR TAX DOLLARS...

...to perform a staggering 332,000+ abortions per year, including horrible “partial-birth” abortions in which a baby is partially delivered and then gruesomely killed.

That means that YOUR tax dollars – and mine –were used to fund an organization that killed at least 332,000 babies in the last twelve months!

…Click here to join this life-saving cause:

The horror of abortion has caused incalculable pain and suffering. God is a just God, and His justice will not be restrained forever. We must restore a culture of life in America!

God bless you,

Quote of the Day

"When Bill Nye uses the word “evolution” here, he is talking about the belief in molecules-to-man change (e.g., reptiles changing into birds, or ape-like creatures changing into man). Such a view relates to historical science and involves beliefs about the past that can’t be observed—times when no human witness was there. But putting “evolution” and technology like the Internet together is ridiculous. The Internet involves observational (operational) science—lab research in the field of physics, the use of computers and programming done by intelligent human beings, etc...

... And to say (as most evolutionists falsely claim) that the main idea in all of biology is evolution is also ridiculous. Students would be much further ahead if they were just taught real biology (such as the nature of cells, reproduction, mutations, and natural selection—all of which creationists accept as sound science) without the baggage of the false view of origins that detracts from this discipline...

Bill Nye then goes on and states, 'having a generation of kids not believing in science is bad for the world.' However, because of what he has previously stated, he is really saying that 'believing in science' and believing in 'evolution' are the same! This is the way unsuspecting kids are brainwashed to believe the lie of evolution in the public school education system, science museums, and science programs on TV."

How's that Hope and Changey Thing Doing?

"Even by his own low standards President Obama has failed."

Ken Cuccinelli, II
Attorney General of Virginia

We Must Put an End to Four Straight Years Of Trillion Dollar Deficits

By Congressman Robert Hurt

Over the past four years, the people of Virginia’s 5th District have suffered as a result of failed policies that have created uncertainty for families, small business owners, and farmers alike. Whether it is the threat of costly regulations, higher taxes, the government takeover of healthcare, or the trillion dollar stimulus, these harmful policies have left us with a larger federal government that is crushing the American people.

This over-reaching federal government, which negatively impacts our local communities and harms our families, small businesses, and farmers, comes with great costs. Not only has an over-reaching government cost our country millions of jobs, but it is also costing us trillions of dollars.

Just this past week, we have learned that for the fourth consecutive year, Americans across this country will suffer from another year of trillion dollar deficits; for the fourth straight year, the federal government will spend over a trillion dollars more than it has taken in.

At a time when many in the 5th District are suffering through double-digit unemployment in this sluggish economy, this reckless spending spree must come to an end. Recognizing this, the House of Representatives has been focused on adopting policies that will restore economic prosperity by reducing our unsustainable debt and deficits.

The House of Representatives has worked tirelessly to end business as usual in Washington. We have voted to cut trillions of dollars in wasteful government spending, repealed the $1 trillion health care law, and adopted legislation that would fundamentally reform the federal budgeting process which contributes to our nation’s spending problem.

But perhaps the most important thing the House of Representatives has done is adopted a budget. For three years now, the Senate has said it will not offer a budget plan to the American people. And though the President offered a budget, it was rejected with unanimous bipartisan opposition, receiving a total of zero votes in the House and the Senate. The House budget is the only plan offered that will address our nation’s spending problem and move us from a wasteful Washington spending culture to sound fiscal footing.

Unfortunately, our budget, along with the dozens of other proposals to put an end to Washington’s reckless spending spree, continue to await action in the United States Senate. Regardless of the Senate’s unwillingness to act, the House of Representatives continues to press forward on behalf of the American people.

For the sake of the future of this nation and for the future of our children and grandchildren, we must put an end to business as usual and we must put this country back on the path to fiscal sustainability. Now more than ever we need real leadership in the Senate and the White House and it is my hope that they will wait no longer to work with the House and address this spending crisis to restore America’s greatness and preserve this great nation and its opportunity for future generations.

Quote of the Day

“Then there’s the question of what to do if rape leads to pregnancy. Should there be a death penalty for rape? In the U.S., few advocate executing the rapist. Under Shariah, the rape victim might be executed, at least if she is not pregnant. But what about the rapist’s baby?

What happens in an abortion? A woman’s body is penetrated by instruments, usually in the hands of a man. The woman will have signed a consent form – but all too often because she felt she had “no choice.” The procedure is painful and bloody. Occasionally, serious physical injury occurs, sometimes even causing death of the mother. Judging from the million or so postings on the nonjudgmental website afterabortion.com, long-term emotional consequences are not uncommon, whatever official medical publications might say.

This procedure is almost always “legitimate” (legal) in the U.S. by order of the U.S. Supreme Court. It is the most common elective surgical procedure. We have lost as much as one-third of our younger generation because of it. The vast majority of Americans have been touched by it in some way. Of course it is emotional and divisive.”

Quote of the Day

“Let’s be very honest, and let’s put it in some military vernacular.  If you’re feeding a person a crap sandwich with a smile, it’s still a crap sandwich, and that’s what you see coming from President Obama.”

“He’s fed America just a load of you-know-what, and it has not done anything for this country but increasing our unemployment, increasing Americans in poverty, increasing the food stamp rolls, and we’re heading in the wrong direction.”

Quote of the Day

“There’s a double standard that exists for Democrats and other parties. It’s a Saul Alinsky tactic. … So every time there’s an instance where something happens, they are going to make us live up to our own rule book — which means, ‘OK, you’ve got to step down, you’ve gotta resign, you’ve gotta do this and that.’”

“But since the Democrats don’t consider that to be part of their rulebook there’s no reason for them to think anything of [the late Sen. Ted] Kennedy being a murderer, or Bill Clinton being accused of rape and other stuff. To them it doesn’t matter because they don’t have any moral authority, they don’t have any moral high ground, they never pretended to have any values.”

Nov. 6th: Vote YES! on Amendment One

Information Alert: We’re from the government…

…and we’re here to help.  While usually used as a joke, that line actually applies far too often.  In Virginia, only state government can turn something that should cost $15,000 into a $500,000 bill for the taxpayers!

But it’s not simply the money.  We often lose rights in the process, so it does make perfect sense to government bureaucrats.

This issue resulted from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s refusal to pay a landowner $15,000 to clean up debris from construction work on property it seized with the power of eminent domain to expand a highway.  Years later, a court decided in favor of the property owner, a decision that ended up costing the state – that would be you and I, the taxpayers – over $500,000 in attorney fees, reparations to the property owner and other costs.

This November, you can help address this major problem by voting YES! on Amendment One, a constitutional amendment protecting your property rights, and your wallet.

The government’s power to take property for “public use” was expanded by the Supreme Court in 2005 to include as a public use things like increasing tax revenue, a threat not only to private landowners but also to churches and religious institutions.  After all, religious organizations don’t pay property taxes.  Replacing those buildings with strip malls or Wal-Marts that pay taxes and feed local coffers is a temptation some local government officials simply can’t control.  In addition, government often doesn’t compensate landowners for their actual financial loss when their property is seized or access to their property infringed.

To address this, after years of debate and effort, the General Assembly this year finally passed legislation putting a property rights constitutional amendment on the ballot.  While support for property rights is strong, a coalition of organizations that support property rights, including The Family Foundation, the Virginia Farm Bureau, the National Federation of Independent Businesses and others, are working to make sure Virginians understand how important it is to support this crucial ballot initiative.

The protection of property rights was a principle critical to our Founders’ vision of America.  Unfortunately, as with many of our Founding principles, it’s up to the citizens to remind government that we still believe in and want those principles to be enforced.
