Family Research Council Remembers Judge Robert Bork, a Judicial Giant

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Family Research Council President Tony Perkins released the following statement on the passing of Judge Robert Bork:

"We mourn the passing of Judge Bork and honor his contributions to our country, the conservative movement, and constitutional law. His nomination to the Supreme Court marked a historic change in the civility of the confirmation process. Despite facing unprecedented character assassination, he never back down from his convictions about constitutional meaning or the uniqueness of our Republic.

"Judge Bork demonstrated great respect for the text and history of the Constitution. He was a strong voice for the role of judges as constitutional interpreters rather than legislators. If other judges reflected his understanding of the modest, limited role of judging, I have no doubt that the American people would be freer.

"His brilliant legal mind also saw the truth of Christianity and in his later years Judge Bork grew closer in his relationship with Jesus. His deep faith and trust in God is an example for all of us.

"Rest well Judge Bork, you served your country and the Constitution with a dedication that will continue to serve as an example for the courts, the legal profession and the country. We offer our condolences to his beloved wife Mary Ellen, a fellow champion of the sanctity for human life," concluded Perkins.
