Rep. Robert Hurt Statement On 69th Anniversary Of D-Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. -€“ Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) today released the following statement in honor of the 69th anniversary of D-Day:

"Today, we pay tribute to the brave soldiers who answered the call of duty on the beaches of Normandy 69 years ago. The National D-Day Memorial located in Bedford, VA is part of our rich history in Virginia’s 5th District, and it serves as a reminder of the important sacrifices of those who fought so valiantly in the name of freedom. While we reflect on the past, we must also remember that our service men and women today follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before us – guided by their legacy and example of defending this country to preserve our American way of life.

"€œLet us also remember in particular Ms. Evelyn Kowalchuck of Huddleston who passed away in April. A courageous World War II flight nurse and a remarkable woman, Ms. Kowalchuk was one of only 500 nurses to serve in World War II. She embodied the selfless heroism that represents the best America has to offer."€
