Congressman Forbes’ Statement on the Administration’s Plan to Close GTMO

Washington, D.C. – Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04), Chairman of the House Armed Services Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, issued the following statement today on the Administration's plan to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility:

"The President's new proposal for closing the detention center at Guantanamo Bay is incomplete in almost every significant detail, including where released terrorists will now be held. I strongly oppose closing this facility, have fought to prevent the transfer of detainees to U.S. soil, and will continue to do so. The President has shown a repeated disregard for Congress and the rule of law, and Congress must remain vigilant that American national security is placed ahead of ideologically-driven campaign promises."
