And that is exactly what Connie Stevens and the Albemarle Republican Committee decided to do last week.

Republican County Committee Stands Against Red Flag Laws

This past Thursday (Aug. 28th,  2019) at its quarterly meeting, the Albemarle County Republican Committee took a bold step for liberty by adopting a Resolution Affirming our Bill of Rights and against Red Flag Gun Confiscation Schemes.

"As you all know, our gun rights are under assault like never before – both on the federal level and here on the State level.  To combat that, it's good for all our local Republican units to make their voices heard.  I would like to see our State Party adopt a similar resolution at their meeting this Saturday," said Connie Stevens, member of the Albemarle County Republican Committee who led this effort.

The Bill of Rights Resolution that passed was authored by the Virginia Constitutional Conservatives and states-

'Whereas, the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed'; and
Whereas, the 4th Amendment of the United States Constitution states "The right of the peopleto be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized"; and
Whereas, the 5th Amendment of the United States Constitution states "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation"; and
Whereas, the 6th Amendment to the United States Constitution states "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence";

Therefore-
Resolved, the Albemarle County Republican Committee stands steadfast with the constitutionally protected rights of the citizens of Albemarle County; and
Resolved, the Albemarle County Republican Committee resolutely opposes Red Flag Gun Confiscation Laws, otherwise known as "Extreme Protection Acts" including the Threat, Assessment, Prevention and Security Act (TAPS); and
Resolved, the Albemarle County Republican Committee requires that all Republican elected representatives and candidates in Albemarle County oppose these unconstitutional schemes;
and
Resolved, that the Chairman of the Albemarle County Republican Committee shall cause copies of this resolution to be disseminated to all Republican members of the General Assembly, and to the media.'
"As more and more fake conservatives work with anti-gun radicals, it is time the people take a stand and demand that those elected to serve them also serve the very principles of liberty that our forefathers fought and died for," said S. Chris Anders, Director of the Virginia Constitutional Conservatives. "Grassroots leadership will make a difference, and Connie Stevens and the Albermarle County Republican Committee need to be commended for their actions."
"Currently Loudoun County is set to vote on the same Bill of Rights Resolution in September and we encourage all Republican County Committees to adopt this resolution of freedom, liberty standing by the rights our Republic was created to preserve."

Moving forward it is time that the voters take back the Republican Party of Virginia and force the County and State Committee to take a stand for the Bill of Rights and the right of due process which dates back to the Magna Carta in 1215.
