UVA CRs Updates, Upcoming Events

Good afternoon,

With election season over, the Hoos have been hard at work transitioning to our post-election activities. Here are your weekly updates and upcoming events:

Updates:

Volunteering at Animal Shelter

On Sunday, several of our members volunteered at the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA, helping to fill up bags for the food pantry and running the lobby.

With the election over, we plan on pursuing a number of volunteer activities. After all, we constantly champion charity as an alternative to government intervention, so we're putting our money where our mouths are!

Statement on UVA's Removal of the 21-Gun Salute from Annual Veterans Day Events

The current administration at UVA made the decision to discontinue the 21-gun salute that has been part of UVA's annual Veterans Day events for decades, expressing concerns that it would "cause a panic." Needless to say, we were not pleased. You can read our response below:

Upcoming Events

Debate Night

In place of our regular weekly meeting, we're going to host a debate this Thursday in which our members will be placed in teams to debate issues that the Republican Party is split on (such as foreign policy initiatives, trade policy, etc.). As usual, all of you are invited to attend and can help us pick the winners! The meeting will be in Monroe Hall, room 122 at 7PM on Thursday.

Rake-a-Thon

Finally, in the spirit of volunteering, a number of our members will be participating in this Saturday's annual Rake-a-Thon event in order to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.

That's all we have for you now. Thank you for your continued support of UVA CRs.
