African American Pastors Group Calls on Dems to Cease Bigotry Against Conservative Blacks

Fulshear, TX — April 28, 2020 —

Today, Rev. William Owens, President and Founder of the Coalition of African American Pastors (CAAP), exposed recent discoveries of corruption within a few states where Democratic Executive Committees are secretly expunging elected officials from the ballot. In particular, the Committees are targeting more conservative members who do not toe the party line. According to Rev. Owens, the Party's actions should be a warning to blacks, who should recognize the actions as a threat unleashed against voters and politicians who disagree with their destructive practices.
Rev. Owens cited the recent example of Rep. John DeBerry of Memphis, Tennessee, a Democrat who is the latest victim of the party leader’s tyranny. DeBerry has a stellar legislative record, but has found himself on the chopping block of the Tennessee Democratic Executive Committee. Despite overwhelming support among voters, DeBerry's chances for reelection have been sabotaged by the state committee.
Black leaders in multiple states are enraged by blatant deception from Democratic Party heads, who have resorted to bullying politicians that do not support controversial policies like public funding for abortion and same-sex marriage. Those leaders say that hardliners are attempting to force them out of the party.
Georgia Representative Vernon Jones is another Democrat who faced a barrage of criticism from his  colleagues after announcing he will vote for Donald Trump in the fall. His decision provoked a fierce attack against his character and a demand for his resignation. Though Jones resigned in response to the pressure, he later rescinded his resignation after an outpouring of support encouraged him to stay in office. CAAP was among the leading religious and social organizations that urged Jones to keep his seat.
Rev. Owens stated that he is not surprised to see the Party turn against moderate and conservative black Democrats. In his latest book, A Dream Derailed,  Rev. Owens explores the historically tense relationship between African Americans and the Democratic Party, dating all the way back to the days of Lyndon B. Johnson and policies that helped destroy the black family. More recently, Rev. Owens experienced a similar attack during an antagonistic exchange with CNN lead anchor Don Lemon, who viciously ambushed the Civil Rights advocate because of Owens' religious beliefs.
"When you see how black Christians are treated by the mainstream of the Democratic Party, you wonder how they can claim to have any understanding of the African American experience," stated Rev. Owens. "The Left has truly hijacked the Democratic Party, and they have turned it into a tool of bigotry. There is no room for diversity of thought, belief, or faith for these ideologues, and they are pushing black Christians out of the Party as fast as they can."
"Black voters and politicians have been loyal to the Democratic Party for decades," Rev. Owens continued. "Now we see how little that loyalty is worth. If they hope to keep the black vote, the Democratic Party needs to take a hard look at their actions and their values. More importantly, they need to cease their bigoted efforts to expel moderate and conservative black Democrats and return to a more open and tolerant platform."
Rev. Owens announced that CAAP is already planning an online town hall that will bring these issues to the attention of a new generation of voters.
Rev. Dean Nelson, Chairman of the Douglass Leadership Institute, agreed with Rev. Owens about the need to stand up to this problematic trend: "The Democrat Party cannot continue to bully African American people to submit to their liberal agenda. Blacks represent the most conservative segment of the democrat party and we have remained the most loyal. That has to change."
