Congressman Robert Hurt Recognized for Leadership in Healthcare Innovation

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) has been honored by the Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC), a national healthcare policy coalition, as a "Champion of Healthcare Innovation."  Hurt received this award at the Council's Healthcare Innovations Expo in Washington, an event which showcases new developments in healthcare technologies and practices.

Upon receiving the award, Congressman Hurt said, "I am honored to be recognized for our work on an issue as important as healthcare innovation, which is key to enhancing the quality of care patients receive.  As I travel across Virginia's 5th District, I hear from our constituents, Main Street businesses, local governments, and healthcare providers that the President's healthcare law is not living up to the Administration's promises.  Instead, we need real market-based reform that focuses on quality, affordable healthcare that integrates marketplace competition, such as allowing the purchasing of insurance across state lines.  I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to this end."

HLC President Mary R. Grealy added, "Innovation is a necessity, not an option, in addressing the challenges facing our healthcare system.  To increase accessibility to high-quality care, improve patient outcomes and strengthen cost-efficiency requires constant improvement in the tools, technologies, medicines and approaches used to prevent and treat disease and elevate wellness.  We applaud Representative Hurt's leadership, dedication and vision in advancing the quality and cost-effectiveness of American healthcare."
