ERIC ZEHR IS THE REPUBLICAN NOMINEE FOR HOUSE OF DELEGATES IN DISTRICT 51

CANDIDATE FILING DEADLINE PASSES – ERIC ZEHR IS DECLARED THE REPUBLICAN NOMINEE FOR HOUSE OF DELEGATES IN DISTRICT 51

            On Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 6:00 p.m., the candidate filing deadline passed, and Eric Zehr is the only candidate to file to seek the Republican nomination for the House of Delegates in District 51.

Zehr represented Rustburg District on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors from 2014-2018. Zehr also served as chairman of the Campbell County Republicans from 2015-2018.

Doug Barringer, Republican Chairman of HD 51 states, "As Chairman of the Virginia House District 51 Republican Legislative District Committee, and of the Campbell County Republican Committee, I am pleased and honored to declare that Eric Zehr has received the nomination as our candidate in the upcoming general election to represent the 51st District in the House of Delegates. While I am grateful to Delegate Matt Fariss for his long service and many contributions to our county and district, and wish the very best for him and his family, I believe that Eric is the right man to carry our banner forward in our battle to restore our Commonwealth from all the damages done in just a few years under democrat control. I am confident that he will fight to restore election integrity in Virginia, and know that he shares our core founding Judeo-Christian values, such as those expressed in the first and second amendments to our constitution, and especially the God given right of every American citizen to "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" from the instant of conception.``

Since no other candidate filed, the Republican convention originally scheduled for June 10, 2023 at Rustburg High School will be cancelled, and Barringer will certify Zehr as the Republican nominee to the State Board of Elections.

"I am so grateful to legions of conservative Republicans across Campbell and Bedford counties, and the town of Hurt," Zehr said. "I am honored by their confidence in me, and look forward to leading the fight for constitutional freedoms and our values of faith and family in Richmond."

The new GOP nominee has been endorsed by Congressman Bob Good, with whom Zehr previously served in the Board of Supervisors. Also endorsing Zehr are Campbell County supervisors Justin Carwile (R-Timberlake District) Matt Cline (R-Concord), Steve Shockley (R- Sunburst) and Bedford County supervisors John Sharp (R-Dist.4), Tommy Scott (R-Dist. 5), Mickey Johnson (Dist. 1) and Bob Davis (Dist. 6). He is also endorsed by former Fifth Congressional District GOP chairman Melvin Adams (Bedford), Mary Katherine Bennett (Bedford), Campbell County Militia captain Dan Abbott, former Campbell GOP chairman and current Planning Commissioner Will Kirk, Altavista town councilman Reggie Bennett, and Bedford town councilman Bruce Hartwick, as well as former Campbell supervisors Mike Rousseau (R-Timberlake) and Jim Borland (R-Spring Hill) and former Bedford supervisor Annie Pollard (R-Dist. 6).

"The voters of the 51^st District are tired of extremist Democrats in Washington and Richmond robbing us of our freedoms," Zehr said. They are ready to fight back. They are ready to send a fighter to Richmond. And I look forward to being their voice in the House of Delegates."

ISSUES

Zehr, a small farmer and small businessman who owns American Housewash in Rustburg, said his campaign is focusing on five key issues.

1. The Sanctity of Life: "On Day One, I will introduce "Life at Conception" legislation, to fulfill the commitment in our Declaration of Independence that our nation will defend all innocent human life, an unalienable right endowed by our Creator," Zehr said.

2. Election Integrity: "On Day One, I will introduce legislation to vote only on Election Day instead of election season, to end no-excuse mail-in voting and its invitation to fraud, and to require an auditable paper trail for all ballots," Zehr said.

3. Parental rights, educational choice and an end to far-left indoctrination in schools: "Virginia parents have rejected the Democrats' extremist attempts to propagandize our children with hateful and divisive agendas like so-called 'critical race theory.'" Zehr said. "They have rejected the Democrats' radical efforts to impose self-destructive 'transgender surgeries' on our children behind their parents' backs. I will lead the fight to put parents, not left-wing bureaucrats, back in charge of their children's education. I will fight to make true educational choice possible for all Virginia parents to determine the best school for their children."

4. Constitutional Carry: "I will lead the fight for constitutional carry legislation in Virginia, joining 30 other states that recognize the right of citizens to bear arms in self-defense as a fundamental right," Zehr said.
5. Energy Independence: "I will lead the fight to unlock Virginia's natural resources. I will lead the fight to unchain Virginia from California's destructive 'Green Raw Deal' policies, which are costing Virginia families dearly," Zehr said

VOC Applauds Passage of Organ Trafficking Bill in the House, Urges Senate Approval

Washington, D.C. — The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC) commends the near unanimous passage by the US House of Representatives on Monday of new bipartisan legislation addressing organ trafficking led by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA). In a stunning 412-2 vote, the House has put on notice regimes that allow state-sponsored organ trafficking that the United States will not tolerate these atrocious human rights abuses supported by communist countries. 
 
"The passage of this legislation sends a clear message to not only China, but the rest of the world that the United States will not turn a blind eye to this atrocity, one that has been shamefully ignored by institutions and governments influenced by China for far too long," said VOC President Ambassador Andrew Bremberg. "We applaud Congressmen Smith and Keating for their leadership, and we urge the Senate to quickly take up this bill, pass it, and send it to President Biden so it can become law."
 
The Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act — also known as H.R. 1154 — authorizes the US Secretary of State to deny passports and visas to anyone involved in illegal organ trafficking. It also mandates annual reporting by the US State Department on forced organ harvesting in foreign countries, and sanctions on individuals and entities that facilitate organ harvesting. If signed into law, it would represent the strongest legislation ever introduced by any country to combat organ trafficking.
 
Forced organ harvesting is a gruesome human rights abuse that occurs around the globe but most acutely in Communist China, where for decades, tens of thousands of innocent people have been killed on demand for their organs, in a lucrative trade thought to be worth over $1 billion per year. As has been meticulously documented by VOC researchers and an independent China Tribunal chaired by Sir Geoffrey Nice — former prosecutor of Slobodan Milošević for war crimes in Yugoslavia at the International Criminal Court — the likely primary victims in China are prisoners of conscience including Falun Gong practitioners, Uyghur Muslims, and Tibetan Buddhists.
 
"These crimes against humanity are unimaginable," said Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), who led Monday's Floor debate on H.R. 1154. "Ethnic groups targeted for mass harvesting include Uyghurs, who suffer from Xi Jinping's ongoing genocide, and the Falun Gong, whose peaceful meditation and exercise practices and exceptional good health make their organs highly desirable. The Chinese Communist Party has declared them to be an 'evil cult'—fit for butchering."
 
Rep. Smith has chaired multiple congressional hearings on China's human rights abuses, including a hearing last May for the bipartisan Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission highlighting Beijing's organ trafficking of political prisoners, at which VOC experts Matthew Robertson and Ethan Gutmann testified.
 
"Forced organ harvesting is cruel and immoral, often targeting ethnic and religious minorities and some of the most vulnerable groups in the world," said Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), co-sponsor of the bill in the Senate. "The bipartisan Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act…will empower the Biden administration to take action against those who practice this despicable crime."
 
The Stop Act — a version of which was first introduced in March 2021 with bipartisan support — has received support from human rights organizations, including VOC, Uyghur diaspora groups, and the International Coalition to End Transplant Abuse in China (ETAC), the group that initiated the aforementioned China Tribunal. The NYC Bar Association's Asian Affairs Committee, Bioethical Issue Committee, and International Human Rights Committee also released a report March 28 called "Human Organ Supply: Report on Ethical Considerations and Breaches in Organ Harvesting Practices" including a significant section on forced organ harvesting in China, referencing VOC's research.
 
"The Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act of 2023 is one of the most significant international responses to the China Tribunal's Judgment to date," said Susie Hughes, Executive Director of ETAC. "We hope that more governments will be inspired to follow in the footsteps of the United States, to ensure their own citizens are not caught up in the mass murder of innocents for their organs in China."
 
VOC's widely-cited scholarly research on the organ issue includes a detailed review of the evidence for forced organ harvesting in China, a peer-reviewed paper demonstrating how Beijing falsified its organ data to support its highly doubtful claim to use only voluntary organ donations since 2015, and a seminal academic paper demonstrating the organ atrocity using China's own medical papers, which was published in the American Journal of Transplantation, the leading journal in the field.

Governor Signs Bill Protecting Religious Freedom!

The Family Foundation Victoria Cobb, President Wednesday, March 29, 2023   This week Governor Youngkin signed HB 2171 (R-Williams), an important bill to ensure that places of worship are able to remain open as an essential entity during a declared state of emergency.   HB 2171 prohibits executive action from treating churches more restrictively than any other business, organization, or activity (such as ABC stores!) during times of emergency, as former Governor Ralph Northam did during the COVID-19 pandemic.   This is a victory for limited government, which should provide greater protection from future arbitrary and discriminatory mandates merely at the stroke of an individual's pen, instead of through a democratic process. We saw the need for such protection during the COVID pandemic when the fellowship and encouragement of the churches was needed the most, but government officials acted rashly and unconstitutionally.   We must never allow government officials to abuse their emergency powers to discriminate against Americans of faith. We commend Governor Youngkin and the General Assembly for recognizing that government power is not absolute, under any circumstance.   If you would like to hear more about bills related to religious freedom and other critical issues during the 2023 General Assembly session, come hear Lt. Speech First Submits Comment To Dept. Of Ed. Over The Removal Of The Free Inquiry Rule

Washington, D.C. (March 27, 2023) – This week, Speech First submitted comments to Biden's

Department of Education on the Administration's removal of the "free inquiry rule", this rule protected
student religious organizations.
Cherise Trump, Executive Director of Speech First, issued the following statement:
"It couldn't be more obvious what the Biden Administration is doing, from the impending removal of the
Davis standard to the removal of the free inquiry rule, the Biden Administration is hellbent on chilling
speech. The free inquiry rule, implemented in 2020, protected religious student organizations from
discrimination (including discrimination based on their speech) and withheld funding from universities
that chose to not abide by this rule. It's beyond important that we continue waging this fight: there is a
war on speech, and students' Constitutional rights have been thrown to the wayside. It's obvious that
student religious groups are not the Biden Administration's favored constituency, despite President

It’s Not About Trump

As you know, I have not made any endorsement or announcement about who I support for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. I know many of you haven't made up your minds either. (And, of course, American Values does not support or oppose candidates for political office.) But I do want to warn you about a trap that some people are falling into. 

Some are concerned that Donald Trump's "drama" distracts from the conservative message, and they worry that if he is nominated, Republicans be stuck with all that drama again. 

Yes, it's true that Trump periodically says things in ways that makes it easy for the left to cause controversy. But if you really think about it, most of the drama of the Trump years was the result of his commitment to stop the left's "fundamental transformation of America."

The "drama" is because the left hates what he's trying to do. Let me remind you of what has transpired.

For years, there was the Russian collusion drama in all its forms, a totally made-up hoax by the left.

There was the drama of Trump constantly being labeled a "racist" and a Nazi-sympathizer. Again, more lies. 

But that's the same drama the left has used against every conservative president and presidential candidate since 1964. They were even more over-the-top against Trump because he was winning more minority votes. 

There was drama because he wanted to build the wall to secure our borders.

There was drama over phone calls to foreign leaders because the left was terrified about what he might discover. Can you imagine the drama if we had the transcripts of a call between demented Joe Biden and a foreign leader? (Some foreign leaders won't even take his calls!)

There was drama because Trump resisted the left's efforts during COVID to change voting procedures in ways that made cheating easier.

There were three rounds of massive drama because Trump actually did what previous Republican presidents often failed to do – appoint pro-life constitutionalists to the Supreme Court. (Trump's justices are also Christians.) And that infuriated the left.

There was drama because for four years he pressured our European allies to get off the backs of the American people and start paying their fair share for their own defense.

There was drama because he resisted the radical green movement and made America energy independent for the first time in decades.

In short, the "drama" isn't about Trump, but the left's reaction to Trump.

The Neo-Marxist Left

Now, the list of things that the neo-Marxist left is doing that should cause drama is many times longer. 

It's clear that Joe Biden and his family took massive amounts of money from communist China. 

His open borders policies are dangerous (see below) and deadly. 

He lies all the time. 

The left constantly condemns America as "systemically racist." 

Biden says you are "cruel" and "sinful" if you want to protect children from being exploited by the radical transgender movement. 

The left is threatening free speech and waging war against religious liberty.

But for most of the country, it doesn't seem like there's any drama because the mainstream media and Hollywood aren't upset about any of that.

Here's what I suspect so many of us just don't want to admit: We are in a very dramatic, consequential moment in American history. This is not the Eisenhower or Reagan years. Our constitutional Republic is in danger. 

Anyone nominated by the GOP who is right-of-center will in short order appear to be "stuck in drama" because the left will demonize them.

I don't want to mince words here: The neo-Marxist left is a threat to freedom. It intends to force you to kneel and become a slave to its demands. That was obvious during COVID, when our free speech rights were restricted, when our churches were closed and when our jobs were threatened. 

And if you resist the chains of neo-Marxist slavery, they will use every tactic possible to portray you as "controversial," "racist," "extreme," etc., etc.

But in reality, they are the extremists waging war against freedom and normalcy.

A final point: Ron DeSantis has done a great job in Florida. But he is very fortunate in that he has large, friendly majorities in the Florida House of Representatives and Senate. He doesn't have to face a major fight every time he tries to pass a conservative reform. And the Tallahassee press corps is nothing compared to the national media.

It is inconceivable that any conservative will find a similar situation in Washington, D.C., if they win the election. Any conservative president will be in the middle of constant drama, under constant attack from the left -- unless that so-called "conservative" surrenders to the left on all the important battles.
