Quote of the Day

"On February 28, 2012, Rep. Alan Nunnelee asked Secretary Chu whether it was his “overall goal to get our price” of gasoline lower, Secretary Chu rejected that goal, stating, “No, the overall goal is to decrease our dependency on oil, to build and strengthen our economy.”

But, the day after Chu’s 2008 “
boost the price of gasoline” quote was featured in a Wall Street Journal op-ed piece by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and with the time for re-election drawing ever nearer, on March 13, 2012, Secretary Chu told a Senate committee, “Of course we don’t want the price of gasoline to go up. We want it to go down.”

There have been many different opportunities to accomplish that goal, but it is hard to see that Secretary
Chu has ever wavered from his previously stated ambition to boost the price of gasoline in the U.S. to European price levels – even when it might have been accomplished by encouraging American-based development of alternative energies."
