Local Congressman Robert Hurt responds to the President Obama's State of the Union address.

The 5th District Republican said Obama spoke about key issues like energy independence and entitlement reform, but the President's actions speak louder than words.

“I think in the end of the day the devil is going to be in the details because if you look at his record, these are things he has not championed, and in fact things that I think are really the cause of our day.”

He says there is enough common ground with the President to move on several issues right now, but Obama needs to lead.

Congressman Hurt issued an additional statement early Wednesday morning, saying:

"Together, we can balance the budget, restore economic stability, empower our small business owners, and ensure that all hardworking Americans have a chance to be a part of the American dream."

He says he thinks President Obama and Congress can work together to achieve these goals.
