Robert Hurt Statement Following Vote to Propose Bipartisan, Bicameral Working Group to End Lapse in Government Operations

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

Washington, DC – Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) released the following statement after voting in favor of legislation proposing a bipartisan, bicameral negotiating team to reopen the federal government and reduce the deficit:

"Throughout the duration of the past eight days of this lapse in government operations, the House of Representatives has passed ten vital pieces of legislation to fund the critical operations of our government.

"While we in the House have been making every effort to provide funding for the critical operations of the government during this difficult time, our colleagues in the Senate refuse to even talk with us about how to move forward.

"It is my sincere hope that with the passage of this bill and the creation of this bicameral working group, the Senate will finally join us at the negotiating table to work toward a resolution to the lapse in government operations and tackle the great budget challenges facing our country."
