Rep. Robert Hurt Statement Following Vote to Provide Funding for Border Security Programs

Washington, DC -€“ Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) released the following statement after voting in favor of the Border Safety and Security Act, which passed the House 249-175.

"€œIn an effort to provide funding for the critical operations of the government during this lapse in appropriations, the House passed legislation today to fund border security programs at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  Certain aspects of our border security programs have been affected by this lapse in government operations, and today'€™s bill ensures DHS is able to proceed with normal illegal immigration prevention activities.

"€œWe in the House have been working in good faith to provide funding for our government, but the Senate has yet to join us at the negotiating table.  I am hopeful that, after meeting with House Republicans leaders later today, the President and the Senate will join us in this crucial effort so we can reopen the government and move forward to make fiscally responsible decisions for our country."
