When Will Pelosi Demand That Kanjorski Resign?
“We’re giving relief to people that I deal with in my office every day now unfortunately. But because of the longevity of this recession, these are people -- and they’re not minorities and they’re not defective and they’re not all the things you’d like to insinuate that these programs are about -- these are average, good American people.”
"If Rep. Paul Kanjorski were a Republican, he would be packing up his office today and booking a one-way ticket home. Wednesday, Rep. Kanjorski was making an “impassioned plea” for “needed government programs” when he made the following remark:
So in Rep. Kanjorski’s construction, minorities are not “average, good American people.” And what exactly does he mean by “defective”? In one amazingly bigoted statement, Rep. Kanjorski managed to defend Big Government spending while offending blacks, Hispanics, Asians and presumably the disabled.
Rep. Kanjorski is unapologetic and insists his comments were taken out of context. Tell that to Trent Lott. If he refuses to apologize, Speaker Nancy Pelosi should demand his resignation. If he refuses to resign, the voters of Pennsylvania’s 11th District should refuse to reelect him."
