Rep. Robert Hurt Statement On President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2014 Budget Request

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Congressman Robert Hurt (R-VA) today released the following statement after President Obama submitted his FY14 budget proposal:

"€œI am pleased that for the first time in nearly four years, the American people will have a clear choice between the Senate, the White House, and the House of Representatives budget blueprints. Unfortunately, today we have seen that there is nothing balanced about the President'€™s budget; we cannot afford more of the same. It taxes more, spends more, grows the federal government, and fails to ever achieve balance at a time when our staggering debt is driving our economy deeper into decline. As more and more 5^th District Virginians and Americans across this country are struggling to find work, the President'€™s budget does nothing to restore fiscal sustainability and give our small businesses an economic environment where they can hire and expand.

 

"€œI remain committed to working with the President and the Senate to find common ground to balance our budget, strengthen health and retirement safety programs, and jumpstart our economy. Yet, at a time when we are piling trillions of dollars of debt onto our children’s future, the President and the Senate seem laser-focused on growing the government. Common ground must be reached. I look forward to working with my colleagues to balance our budget and make the difficult but necessary choices torestore a healthy and vibrant economy now and for generations to come."
