Defending our Defenders

Kudos to Matt Birk! The former Baltimore Ravens center turned down an invitation to the White House to celebrate the team's Super Bowl victory. When asked why he wasn't there, Birk told a sports blog:

"I have great respect for the office of the presidency but about five or six weeks ago, our president made a comment in a speech and he said, 'God bless Planned Parenthood.' …I'm very confused by [Obama's] statement. For God to bless a place where they're ending 330,000 lives a year? I just chose not to attend."

Birk has been outspoken about his faith and support for traditional values in the past. When a fellow Ravens teammate endorsed same-sex marriage last year, Birk spoke up for normal marriage. The Minnesota native also publicly endorsed the Minnesota marriage amendment.

MCRW COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
The following projects are on-going:
*** COMMUNITY FOOD CLOSETS – A collection box is available at all MCRW monthly membership for donations of non-perishable boxed/canned food items to be forwarded to the Madison Emergency Shelter Association (MESA).
*** LITERACY PROGRAM – donations of new or gently used books for local schools, library and charities.
*** SUPPORT THE TROOPS – “Operation Warm Heart” – A collection box is available at all MCRW monthly membership meetings for donations.
