EMET is Profoundly Grateful to President Trump for his Recognition of the Severity of the Problem of anti-Semitism on American Campuses

(Washington, DC, December 11, 2019) EMET has long been championing the passage of the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, which would give Jewish students the same Constitutional protections as black, Hispanic, handicapped, and almost any other minority students receive on college campuses.

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 does not prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion, but on the basis of race, color, or national origin.

However, we have been witnessing a rising problem of anti-Semitism within the United States. According to the FBI, hate crimes against Jews in America rose by more than a third last year, and amounted to 58 percent of all religious based hate crimes. The Anti-Defamation League's most recent audit recorded 1,879 acts in 2018, with a dramatic increase in physics assaults. What is most disturbing is the upward trend of anti-Semitic incidents occurring at K through 12 classrooms and on college campuses.

For far too long, American Jewish students have been subjected to harassment, intimidation, and bullying by not only some of their peers, but by many of their professors on college campuses throughout the United States. Much of this harassment has been cloaked under what some erroneously think is the first amendment.

We, at EMET, cherish our first amendment rights and believe that our constitution is the most sacred document in the world. Having said that, educational institutions have a higher responsibility: to create an educational climate that is conducive to learning, which means that it must be free from harassment, intimidation, and bullying.

Hate speech might be protected speech, according to the Constitution, however it is not welcome on the college campus. What has been deemed as free speech in the town square, is not necessarily permissible speech on the campus. Just as, according to our Constitution, one is allowed to use the disgraceful "N" word on the town's square, that is not permissible within a university setting. Similarly, one should not be allowed to call a Jewish student an "'f'ing Zionist pig" because he wears a yarmulke on his head or a star of David around her neck,  when they walk across the campus, although it is protected speech in the town's square.

The problem is particularly pronounced in many university classrooms, particularly in our nation's Middle Eastern Studies programs, where professors have silenced the debate about Israel and have promoted a decisively and exclusively one-sided, anti-Israel agenda. There are countless stories from students across the country about professors who would not allow any student to speak from a pro-Israel perspective, who have silenced them, and have even used their grading system to penalize them, irrespective of how well they have researched, backed up, or footnoted their arguments.

We are not suggesting that criticism of Israeli-policy is not permissible speech, just as it is permissible to criticize any other country's policy, but when it crosses the line into saying that Israel should not be allowed to exists, as a nation, that is anti-Semitism.

The anti-Semitism Awareness Act, sponsored in the Senate by Senator Tim Scott (Republican, South Carolina), Senator Marco Rubio (Republican, Florida), Johnny Isakson (Republican, Georgia), and Senator Bob Casey (Democrat, Pennsylvania), and in the House by Representative Doug Collins (Republican, Georgia), clearly responds to this issue. It does this by incorporating the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of anti-Semitism, which includes "denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g. by claiming that the existence of the State of Israel is a racist endeavor."

Although this language has stalled in Congress, President Trump has done a courageous thing by making it into an executive order.

Over the past several years, we have witnessed the most egregious incidents of discrimination against Jewish students throughout America's college classrooms and campuses. We know that what begins in the classroom and the campus ends up in the boardroom and in the corridors of Congress. This is a necessary corrective to the rapidly metastasizing cancer of anti-Semitism in our society. It is not only good for the Jews, it is good for America, as a whole, because what starts with the Jews never ends with just the Jews."

A Disease, But the Wrong Cure

Among the anticipated proposals in the hopper as a result of the Bluing
of Virginia are a slew of measures with highly questionable
effectiveness, if any.  To set the stage, would you want your doctor to
treat cancer or diabetes with only aspirin?  Without the appropriate
diagnostic tests?  The answer is most likely "no".

Thus is the case with the wide range of gun control measures awaiting
the convening of the next session of the General Assembly in January. 
Many of them were introduced in the last session; many of them were
considered in the "special" session.  And supporters and opposers alike
agreed that none of these bills would have prevented the mass killing in
Virginia Beach.

One has to ask, if these are not effective, why are we doing this?  What
are the so-called unintended consequences?  Or are they unintended?  The
support for so many of these measures appears dubious at best.  Looking
at just a few studies suggests that America – and Virginia in particular
– will not be a better, safer place in which to live.

Studies indicate that a large majority of mass shootings occur in "Gun
Free Zones".   In fact, one analysis indicated the mass shootings
occurred in gun free zones 96.2% of the time; where guns were allowed,
3.8%.   Or as in last week when there were two "mass shootings" (four or
more victims) that occurred in California, a state with among the most
gun restrictive laws in the country.  As for general violence, one need
only look to Chicago or Baltimore… or that most violent crime (again in
general) is committed by repeat offenders, and fewer than 1% of crime
guns are purchased at gun shows.  Most criminals acquire guns through
their social networks and personal connections.

Then there are changes in society itself.  It's interesting to note that
in the 50 years before the Texas Tower shooting, there were just 25
public mass shootings in which four or more people were killed.  Since
then, the number has surged.  Many of these acts are committed by people
between the ages of 18 and 49.  Only 3 were committed by women.

School shootings in particular rip out our hearts.  A recent article,
"What School Shooters Have in Common:  Data-driven pathways for
preventing gun  violence", pointed out four commonalities among youthful
mass shooters:  "they suffered early-childhood trauma and exposure to
violence; they were angry or despondent over a recent event, resulting
in feelings of suicidality; they studied other school shootings; they
possessed the means to carry out the attack".   This suggests that
responsible gun owners control access to their guns – nothing more,
nothing less.

Nothing more, nothing less is also supported by historical data. Two
articles bear closer scrutiny: "Gun confiscation is Always a Prelude to
Genocide" and A History of Firearms and Gun Control". The former
outlines the UN (Agenda 21) plan.  In summary: military grade weapons
made illegal; reasonable compensation for voluntary surrender;
restriction and strict licensing of concealable firearms; restriction
and licensing of hunting grade firearms; make any and all firearms
illegal to own or possess outside of military or law enforcement; create
a UN Police Taskforce to assist member nations with collection of
weaponry from citizens". Bear these in mind come January – or starting
now with a review of Virginia's proposals!

On the flip side, consider the United States Constitution and
innumerable court decisions.  Obviously, the 2nd Amendment, as widely
interpreted, would be "infringed" upon.  The 4th Amendment, guaranteeing
security in our "effects", would be seriously compromised…the 5th,
guaranteeing rights if accused of a crime and prohibition of taking
private property…and the 6th on rights in all criminal
prosecutions…would all be affected.

Just two headlines in recent years tell a similar story:  "FBI Crime
Stats Show an Armed Public Is a Safer Public" and "CDC Study: Use of
Firearms for Self-Defense is 'Important Crime Deterrent'".  Delegate
Nick Freitas, at a recent public gathering, indicated that anywhere from
500,000 to 2.5 million times a year, honest citizens use a firearm to
deter a crime, rarely killing the person trying to commit a crime.

So here we have it – gun restriction with no positive results and many
negative, including failing to address the emotional needs of troubled
youth or even recognizing when a problem might exist; a changing society
without the coping mechanisms that guided us in the past;
disproportionate penalizing of women gun owners; a state disassembling
the United States Constitution and a long history of legal precedent;
and essentially making Virginia a "Gun Free Zone" and sitting ducks for
criminals and those who would do ill against honest citizens.

Age-old adage:  a gun doesn't pull its own trigger.

Take Action: Stop Voter Fraud in 2020

Unfortunately in a free republic and society it is difficult to prevent
many types of crime without becoming Orwellian "1984" therefore, let's
take action now! In America we enjoy our freedom of saying what we feel,
doing what we like, believing what we choose and deciding on our own
terms as we live our lives. Americans often scout for ways to skate the
system, either for business profit, competitive education and sports
related ideals, or inventing ways to just get ahead in general within
our culture.

Not every single American thinks this way as I would like to believe
that most are faith driven Americans, but of course millions often do.
 It's what makes America the greatest country in the world, to be
trusted to abide by American laws and Christian based trust. There
remain some sorts who don't necessarily desire to cheat but rather live
free and get ahead in an overall intended clean manner. The world view,
Go to America and think of an occupation and then do it for profit and
become rich. Living without a socialist state constantly watching you
does provide we the people with an independent streak that we can do
anything we want to do in our great republic. With that said, the system
can cleverly and deceptively be slighted in endless arenas from gambling
to business to politics.

We must re-examine the number one thing in America which provides every
one of us real unconditional sovereign freedom and yes we must take
action now! Enforce with extreme prejudice our voting laws! To protect
this amazing sovereign republic from European socialist infiltrations we
need to crack down on the very system which determines who will govern
our sacred laws and uphold the founding fathers intent of purest values
of republicanism. To do this we do not need more socialist watchdog
tactics but rather deliberate positive common sense protocols uniformed
to allow one vote by a said legitimate voter recognized as a legal
citizen of our nation in their given state of registration.

Fraudulent use of absentee ballots include requesting absentee ballots
and voting without the knowledge of the actual voter; or obtaining the
absentee ballot from a voter and either filling it in directly and
forging the voter's signature; or illegally telling the voter who to
vote for. We must not allow illegal citizens, deceased citizens or
multiple votes by cheating voters. We must take a serious look and crack
down on absentee voting and early voting or even millions of fraudulent
votes which could be brought into precincts after the polls closed and
which likely has actually occurred through the years. This includes
Impersonation Fraud at the polls such as voting in the name of other
legitimate voters and voters who have died, moved away, or lost their
right to vote because they are felons, but remain registered.

The west coast is quite dirty with their cheating and voter fraud, but
every state has the potential and quite often has been exposed. Again we
need to take action now! Our system, once legitimate, has been invaded
and hacked electronically using voter harvesting and even suppressing
honorable voting by registered voters. Fraudulent voter registrations
either use a phony name and a real or fake address or claim residence in
a particular jurisdiction where the registered voter does not actually
live and is not entitled to vote. In addition, Ineligible voting Illegal
registration and voting by individuals who are not U.S. citizens, are
convicted felons, or are otherwise not eligible to vote is quite common
in many states.

This great nation with our high tech advantages should be able to stop
voter fraud in its tracks and we must strive for this once and for all
in 2020. To remain a free sovereign republic we must cease voter fraud
in every single area because dirty voter tactics will destroy us from
the inside out, right before our daily lives.  These dirty election
practices must be exposed as soon as possible and all involved
prosecuted and heavily fined and are thankfully occurring in several
states right now.

Perhaps certain states like California can be disqualified from voting
if they do not follow the new laws we put in place. If the states clean
up their dirty tricks and cheating then they can qualify in the voting
process. President Trump could or should sign an executive order to
insist that every voter in America provide a legitimate federal photo ID
to clarify they are in fact a legal voter. Unless certain states
cooperate, including possibly California, they could be prevented from
voting unless they rectify their voting procedure to conform to our laws
to stop all fraud at the ballot box. This is the kind of action we must
get behind and stop the madness.

We must take action now and at once because we cannot wait any longer
for things to get even worse. Yes, we enjoy our freedom in America, we
love to do and say things without being spied upon as a free republic.
We do not like to be told what to do or be observed 24 hours a day. Not
any of us would like to become an Orwellian "1984" culture where you never
have a moment to conceal a desire, a thought, a work action or a simple
display of affection to a loved one. We love our freedom to do things to
get ahead and enjoy life in America, so let's fix this system from fraud
and get it right in 2020. It is long overdue by decades to insist on
federal voter photo ID in every single state in this republic. It can be
done and I would wager in many millions of citizen's views it should be
done now more than ever -- as soon as possible. Contact your
representatives or even President Donald J. Trump. Encourage and insist
on stopping voter fraud in 2020. Take action now!

FRC: 'Fairness for All' Bill Is Anything But

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Family Research Council strongly opposes the coercive and deceptively-named "Fairness for All Act" that was introduced today in the House of Representatives. Intended as a compromise between religious liberty and those advocating for unrestrained sexual liberty, this bill is in reality an "Equality Act-lite" that would impose a sweeping, anti-Christian ideological mandate on our entire country.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins issued the following statement:

"By sacrificing the conscience rights of all Americans to secure a few minor carveouts, 'Fairness for All' represents a near-total surrender to the aggressive LGBT agenda. It would legitimize discrimination against people of faith like floral artist Barronelle Stutzman, who was targeted by the government because she operated her business according to her Christian beliefs. Religious liberty includes the freedom to practice one's faith in every area of life, not just within a religious institution or the four walls of one's church.

"Religious liberty is enshrined in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights, while no provision of the Constitution references sexual orientation or gender identity. 'Fairness for All' would turn that on its head by reducing religious liberty to a second-class right and making sexual orientation and gender identity equivalent to historically protected classes like race and sex, which they are not. Enshrining sexual orientation and gender identity in U.S. civil rights law would be a declaration that it is morally wrong to disapprove of homosexual or transgender conduct, throwing the full force of the U.S. government against the longstanding positions of all major religions in the world," added Perkins.

"Don't think the carve outs for religious institutions in 'Fairness for All' would be sufficient or permanent. The LGBT lobby has demonstrated a rapacious desire to be not only tolerated but affirmed. Already politicians have suggested removing the tax-exempt status of religious institutions that do not affirm LGBT lifestyles -- one of the few religious freedom protections currently in Fairness for All. This attempt at compromise will not satisfy their demands," concluded Perkins.

Impeachment Insanity

Round Two of Impeachapolooza began today in the House Judiciary Committee. Chairman Jerry Nadler decided to begin the second phase of this colossal waste of time by bringing in four constitutional law professors to explain the pros and cons of impeachment.  That speaks volumes about just how weak the left's case truly is.
 
We can all read the Constitution for ourselves to understand impeachment.  But clearly progressives don't think they've made the case yet after two weeks of stacked hearings in the House Intelligence Committee.  (The polls certainly show that they haven't convinced the American people.)  They still need help from so-called "experts" on the Constitution.  
 
And that's not the only problem they've got.  Some progressives are fuming that none of today's witnesses were minorities.  Seriously, you can't make this stuff up!
 
Rep. Al Green (D-TX) took to the House floor this morning and essentially accused Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Chairman Jerry Nadler of racism. 
 
Here are some facts you should know:
 

• While Judiciary Committee liberals were pretending to appeal to the Constitution today, this is a raw power grab.  Today's witnesses were stacked 3-to-1 against the president. 

• One of the witnesses is a rabid leftist who bought into the Russia collusion hoax hook, line and sinker.  He also wanted to impeach Trump back in 2017 -- over a tweet of all things!  Another witness is so consumed with hate that she gets triggered by the Trump Hotel.

• As we have noted before, the left has been braying for Trump's impeachment quite literally since the day he was sworn into office.  Jerry Nadler has been plotting impeachment since the day he took over the Judiciary Committee. 

• In other words, today's hearings were a foregone conclusion in search of a crime.  The left convicted Trump the moment he won the 2016 election and has been searching ever since for any excuse it could find to remove him.  Nadler thought he had it with the Russia/Mueller probe.  But that turned out to be a big flop.

• Today's lone "Republican" witness isn't even a supporter of President Trump.  George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley is an avowed liberal who voted for Bill Clinton in 1992 and Ralph Nader in 1996.  He's also an advocate for polygamy. 

• Nevertheless, Turley blasted the left's case for impeachment as "woefully inadequate," "dangerous" and plagued by "a scarcity of evidence."  I guess that's one thing Turley and I agree on.  But if progressives can't win over a liberal like Jonathan Turley, they are clearly falling short.

FRC, CLI find: All Obamacare Health Insurance Plans in 8 States and DC Cover Abortion on Demand for 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Family Research Council (FRC) and the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) announced the results of their sixth annual review of elective abortion coverage in individual health insurance plans offered on state exchanges under Obamacare. Since open enrollment began on November 1, FRC and CLI research staff have diligently examined healthcare.gov and state-based exchanges for information on abortion coverage in health insurance plans.

The groups' fact sheet for 2020 is available online at Obamacareabortion.com, along with an interactive map. Some of their key findings for 2020 include:

• In eight states and the District of Columbia, 100 percent of individual plans on the exchange cover elective abortion. Illinois and Maine were added to the list since 2019 because of new state mandates that require all health insurance plans to cover elective abortion. Massachusetts and Washington were removed from the list because they added health insurance plans that do not cover abortion. The other states with abortion-only plans are Alaska, California, Hawaii, Maryland, New York, and Vermont.
• 26 states do not allow elective abortion coverage in plans offered on the state exchange. This number has not changed since last year.
• Of all individual exchange plans in the 24 states and the District of Columbia that allow abortion coverage, an estimated 777 plans cover elective abortion for the 2020 enrollment period. The percentage of total plans covering elective abortion rose 6 percent over this period from 65 percent of plans (650) in 2019 to 69 percent (777) of plans in 2020. Over this period, the total number of plans increased modestly from 1,000 to 1,120.

Family Research Council Director of Life, Culture, and Women's Advocacy Patrina Mosley commented:

"Obamacare allows health insurance plans purchased with federal subsidies to cover elective abortion. This violates the principle of the longstanding Hyde Amendment that taxpayer dollars should not be entangled with the abortion industry. Many individuals seeking enrollment remain categorically opposed to elective abortion and do not want their tax dollars used for its coverage. As the current administration has taken a strong stance in proclaiming that abortion is not family planning through the strengthening of Title X regulations and expanding the Mexico City policy, Congress still has a lot of work to do to make sure abortion is never considered healthcare."

UVA College Republicans Updates

Good morning,

The Hoos have returned from Thanksgiving break and are getting ready to dive into finals season. We have a few updates for you to close out the semester.

CRs and TPUSA Co-Host Jaco Booyens

On 11/22, we co-hosted Jaco Booyens with UVA's TPUSA. He spoke about the very difficult, but very important topic of human trafficking in the US. Everyone left the meeting much more knowledgeable on the issue and with ways they can get involved to help combat it. 

After the meeting ended, several lucky CRs got the chance to pie our Outreach Coordinator, Chloe Sparwath. Chloe promised that we could pie her if enough people signed up for Rake-a-Thon and, needless to say, that number was met! Thanks for being such a good sport Chloe!

Lunch with Barbara Comstock

Yesterday, our top campaigners had the opportunity to catch lunch with former Congresswoman Barbara Comstock. They definitely earned it with all of the hard work that they put in for our amazing candidates!

Beijing's Espionage

Several weeks ago, I told you about reports that the Trump Administration was taking steps to stop China's efforts to recruit scientists in the United States for its espionage efforts.  A Senate report released this week reveals just how extensive Beijing's efforts were.
 
The Chinese "Thousand Talents" program began in 2008.  It recruited at least 2,600 scientists in the United States, most of them Chinese nationals, at government labs or federal funded university research facilities. 
 
While these scientists were being paid by the U.S. government to conduct research on a wide range of issues, they were also being paid by the Chinese Communist Party to make sure their research found its way back to China. 
 
Incredibly, the FBI did not begin aggressively confronting the Chinese espionage until 2018!  Presumably, James Comey, Andrew McCabe and Peter Strzok were just too busy sniffing out Russians in the Trump campaign to notice all the Chinese spies crawling around our college campuses and government labs.
 
But I do remember being surprised when Comey's successor, FBI Director Christopher Wray, told the Senate Intelligence Committee at the beginning of this year:
 
"[T]he Chinese counterintelligence threat is more deep, more diverse, more vexing, more challenging, more comprehensive and more concerning than any counterintelligence threat I can think of."  
 
While the left and the media are focused on Russia and Ukraine, the Chinese are robbing us blind.

Saturday, February 22, 2019 CCRC Fundraiser the Ronald Reagan Legacy Dinner at Tuscany Hall, Culpeper.  The committee is hard at work getting ready for this exciting event!  We hope all CCRC active members will be there.  Tickets will be on sale soon.
