Quote of the Day

"Political correctness has run amok once again on the Left Coast. Five students at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California, were sent home yesterday for wearing t-shirts that featured the American flag. School officials labeled the flag shirts “incendiary” and demanded the students turn them inside out or be suspended.

What led school officials to make such a charge? Yesterday was Cinco de Mayo – a holiday in Mexico – and school administrators feared that the shirts would cause an outbreak of violence from Hispanic students. One Mexican-American student said, “I think they should apologize because it is a Mexican Heritage Day. We don’t deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn’t do that on Fourth of July.”

I’m glad to hear that because this is the United States of America – not Mexico. I have no problem with folks celebrating Cinco de Mayo, but it is not an American holiday and Old Glory should never be offensive or incendiary to anyone in this country on any day of the year!

The fact that school officials were worried about violence from Hispanic students demonstrates what a terribly poor job our schools are doing of assimilation and teaching patriotism to the next generation that will be called upon to defend this country. Unfortunately, the school administrators’ fears may have been justified. Violence broke out during the May Day immigration demonstrations when “tolerant” San Francisco liberals assaulted members of the Minutemen."
