"Rifqa Bary’s civil rights are being violated by the state of Ohio. She is being for all intents and purposes held prisoner, deprived of access to a phone, to the Internet, and to public school. And why is all this being done? What crime has she committed? The Ohio authorities may not realize what they are doing, but they are holding Rifqa under house arrest in accord with Sharia law, which stipulates that female apostates are to be imprisoned until they recant. Ohio is effectively practicing Sharia law."

Over-educated Idiot or bumbling fool?

Of course, there is always the possibility that this is deliberate...

"Obama therefore reinforces a worldview that takes for granted the legitimacy of everlasting enmity between Muslims and non-Muslims -- and does so while attempting to build bridges between Muslims and non-Muslims."

Quotes of the Day

"In the many battles we face, and in a culture where our values seem to be slipping away, it is often difficult to find joy and thankfulness, yet we are incredibly blessed in so many ways. Simply being alive, having the opportunity to serve our God, to live in a land that is free – still – and having family and friends to love are just some of the things we too often take for granted."
Victoria Cobb, President, The Family Foundation of Virginia

"For even in our most challenging and uncertain times, America remains the strongest and wealthiest nation on earth, where even our poorest of the poor have a better quality of life than 90% of people in all other nations combined. So it is good for us all to take time to pause, reflect, and give thanks."
Brigitte Gabriel, President and CEO, ACT for America

"The conservative cause shows great promise, and for this we should be thankful."
Amanda Reinecker, MyHeritage.org-- a website for members and supporters of The Heritage Foundation and Nathaniel Ward, the Editor of MyHeritage.org.

I'm thankful to God for His great grace in America, for our foundations, for our rich history, for the fact that there are still wonderful soldiers fighting on in difficult arenas.

"...But, I'm thankful, too, for people fighting in smaller arenas - like the arenas of their homes - for the glory and honor of God with their children and marriages - staying in and under the Scripture in their faithfulness to Him and staying true to Him in the manner in which they conduct their lives including their financial decisions, their bodies, their tongues, their thought life."
Bill Johnson, President

"I would like to wish you each a happy Thanksgiving and ask that in this difficult time that we are all in that you do take a moment and thank God for the blessings we do have."

Darla Dawald, National Director, Patriotic Resistance

"Thanksgiving is a wonderful American day. We think mostly of our families and the joys of getting closer with our families. Thanksgiving is also a day to be thankful for our unique country and its history of generosity and freedom. As we face the challenges ahead, let us draw strength from this day, from our country and from each other. Happy Thanksgiving!"
Jim Gilmore and the Patriots Committee

"THANK YOU SO MUCH for standing shoulder to shoulder with us in this battle against forced unionism tyranny."

Mark Mix, President
National Right to Work Committee

"I hope that this week as you think of the things you and your family are thankful for, you will think about the current health care debate and the fact that we have not yet lost to the forces of big government. That you will think too about the success of the tea party movement and how the new film "TEA PARTY" can further spotlight its effectiveness."

Matt Kibbe, President and CEO, FreedomWorks

"On this day of Thanksgiving, we remember that man does not live by bread alone. Certainly, the best of our country's leaders understood this. That is doubtless why, when Washington took the first Oath as President, in the presence of God and a cloud of witnesses, he kissed the Bible. Of all things for which we give thanks this day, we are most grateful for the Lord God and His Word."

Tony Perkins, President, Family Research Council

"But, let us think about the REAL meaning of the Thanksgiving holiday, not just the things that the world has tried to use to get our eyes off of that meaning."
Tim Dunkin, Renew America

Quote of the Day

"As we give thanks, take a few minutes to remind your children and grandchildren of the importance of Thanksgiving, because, odds are, they are not learning the true meaning of this historic celebration in the public schools. Many students are not taught about the Pilgrims’ faith in divine Providence, which inspired their heroic and dangerous journey to America.

The good folks at ColdWater Media have produced the
Drive Thru History series in partnership with Focus on the Family and Trinity Broadcasting Network. They have posted a short video about the Pilgrims that you and your children can watch here. (Click on “Happy Thanksgiving” in the upper right corner.) It is remarkable to consider the tremendous adversity the Pilgrims overcame hundreds of years ago. In many ways, our struggles today, as real as they are, pale in comparison.

Regardless of the foolishness that prevails in our schools and our culture in the name of tolerance, we recognize and appreciate what this great day is all about. The Lord has blessed our country beyond our founders’ imaginations, and each generation has contributed to America’s greatness. Great challenges are before us. Like the settlers of so many years ago, we fall to our knees to give thanks to the Lord who watches over and blesses us abundantly. It is with His blessing that America will remain a “shining city upon a hill.” "

Black Friday: Vote with Your Wallet

Black Friday Payback: Vote with your Wallet --
Don't Buy Products from Companies That Support President Obama's Cap-and-Trade Policy

Patriots Need to Send a Message to Companies that Wield their Special Interest Influence to Undermine Liberty, says the Free Enterprise Project

Washington D.C.: Today the Free Enterprise Project of the National Center for Public Policy Research calls on patriotic Americans to vote with their wallets starting on Black Friday and avoid buying products from companies that are working with President Obama and liberals in Congress to impose cap-and-trade policies.

"The only reason why cap-and-trade is on the national scene is because CEOs of major corporations are actively lobbying for the legislation. Every time we buy products from these companies our money is rewarding CEOs who are the enemies of liberty," said Tom Borelli, Ph.D., Director of the Free Enterprise Project. "Cap-and-trade legislation will cause higher energy prices, lower economic growth and increase unemployment. The consequence of this legislation will cause a severe reduction in our standard of living."

Companies such as Starbucks, Levi Strauss and Company and Nike are members of theBusiness for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy -- a group that supports aggressive federal laws to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and limits on construction of coal-fired power plants.

General Electric, BP, Shell and Johnson & Johnson are members of the United States Climate Action Partnership - a lobbying group comprised of corporations and environmental special interest groups that have been active in supporting cap-and-trade legislation.

Al Gore is on Apple's board of directors and the company recently canceled its membership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce because of differences over global warming policies.

"Avoiding that Starbucks cup of coffee and that BP gas station are easy choices we can make every day. Companies need to know there will be a price to pay for colluding with environmental activists and liberal politicians that seek to loot us of our liberty," said Borelli.

"We don't need to wait for elections to exercise our belief in limited government and individual liberty. Every day we have an opportunity to vote with our wallet and avoid products from companies that are advancing the left-wing agenda," said Borelli.

The following is a partial list of companies whose products should be avoided on Black Friday and going forward until they stop lobbying for cap-and-trade: Starbucks, Levi Strauss & Company, Nike, Apple, Timberland, Gap Inc., General Electric, BP, Shell and Johnson & Johnson.

The Free Enterprise Project can be visited online at www.freeenterpriser.com/.

The National Center for Public Policy Research is a non-partisan, non-profit educational foundation based in Washington, DC. It receives most of its funding through hundreds of thousands of individual gifts.

Does Obama think America is too Stupid to Notice?

Tony Perkins, Family Research Council, points out some of Obama's many failures.

Weapons of Math Destruction

Yesterday, President Obama took the opportunity to introduce his latest initiative: Educate to Innovate. With the help of Big Bird and Elmo, the White House will be pushing math and science proficiency--something his own administration could desperately use. Last week, ABC News broke the story that the stimulus spending didn't add up, pointing to a serious breakdown in calculations by the Recovery Board. For starters, the website that monitors the stimulus dollars, www.recovery.gov, was bragging about job creation in places like Arizona's 15thCongressional District. The only problem is the 15thDistrict doesn't exist! Nor does Puerto Rico's 99th District, which is said to have received $47 million, and countless others. Apparently, the Recovery Board created to track the stimulus needs help keeping itself on track.

Hundreds of millions of dollars are either missing or misidentified. In dozens of fake districts, the website claims millions of dollars were spent to create a handful of jobs. Take Oklahoma, for instance. Recovery.gov says it took the Sooners $19 million to create 15 jobs! Still, Ed Pound, a spokesman for the Recovery Board, announced yesterday that the agency has no intention of correcting its math. "Unless we find significant errors causing public confusion, we are not planning further corrections," said Pound. "Significant errors" like inflating the number of jobs created by 20,000? "Humans make mistakes," Pound told reporters. They sure do--like agreeing to bills like this one.

If the administration is planning new lessons in science, sign the White House up for those too! Last week's Climategate showed how misguided the President's environmental policies--like cap-and-trade policies--have been. By cracking into the servers of the Climatic Research Units, hackers exposed the fraud of global warming in dozens of emails written by the world's environmental experts. According to the messages, scientists were manipulating the facts to hide their own inconvenient truth, which is that global temperatures have actually been on the decline. Of course, plenty of scientists had debunked those theories before the controversy, but President Obama insisted on moving forward with his agenda in direct contradiction to the facts.

Corruption on a Grand Scale

Another insidious socialist scheme is unmasked.

Leftwing Lies

In past reports, I’ve expressed skepticism about the so-called global warming consensus. Not only did the science seem suspect, often contradicting common sense, but it was clearly ideologically driven. Like the promise that more government programs would save money, the radical environmental movement has a terrible track record of making hysterical predictions that never materialize. And its solutions are always the same – bigger government and higher taxes.

In recent days, there have been shocking revelations that the science behind the global warming scare may well be a total scam. E-mails have been leaked from key scientists that appear to expose blatant data manipulation and efforts to suppress dissent. Science and academia are supposed to be all about free inquiry. But these scientists are acting more like petty liberal ideologues determined to pursue their leftwing agenda regardless of the facts.

I won’t go into all of the details about the emails in this report. You can read more here and here. But this is not just a scientific scandal. “Climategate” is a huge political scandal as well, encompassing leading leftwing luminaries like Al Gore, who have been working for years to impose various socialist schemes aimed at undermining our sovereignty, crippling our economy and redistributing our wealth, all under the guise of combating global warming.

I’m pleased to report that conservative stalwart Senator Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma is demanding an investigation, and rightly so, because the stakes are tremendous. The entire premise of cap and trade – massive new energy taxes and vastly expanded government power – rests on this apparent scam. It’s worth reminding everyone that 82% of House Democrats voted for it, while 94% of House Republicans opposed it.

We will continue to monitor this story. But most importantly, with your help, we will do everything we can to defeat liberal Democrats who support cap and trade and other socialist policies. If we can make major gains in next year’s elections, we can stop Obama’s socialism! (Click here to get the bumper sticker.)

Quote of the Day

"Here’s how Merriam Webster’s dictionary describes a bribe: “Money or favor given or promised in order to influence the judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust.” Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu is often considered one of those “moderate” Senate Democrats, and she was one of the last to decide how she would vote Saturday. What tipped her hand? Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid offered $100 million in additional aid just for the citizens of Louisiana. It’s being mocked on Capitol Hill as “The Louisiana Purchase.” Landrieu is unrepentant. She went to the Senate floor and defended her vote, saying, “I am not going to be defensive … and it is not a $100 million fix, it is a $300 million fix.”

The senator from Louisiana may be for sale, but the American people are not. They are not buying the snake oil of “free healthcare” or the absurd notion that the government can do it better and save money too. According to the latest Rasmussen poll, just 38% of likely voters support this socialized medicine scheme, while 56% oppose it. That’s the lowest level of support for ObamaCare since Rasmussen started tracking the issue back in June."

Stop Obamacare!

Tony Perkins, Family Research Council, has a word on what you can do to help stop Obamacare.

Health Care in Critical Condition

It's Thanksgiving week on Capitol Hill, and it looks like the turkeys have fled D.C. for their home states. Their departure followed a tough vote on Saturday night, in which the Senate officially agreed to move forward with Sen. Harry Reid's (D-Nev.) joke of a health care bill. By strict party lines (60-39), the Democrats voted against the American people to railroad their $2.5 trillion legislation to the Senate floor, where debate is expected to begin as early as November 30. Although a handful of Democrats seemed to be teetering on the edge heading into the weekend, others waited until Sen. Harry Reid sweetened the pot until they committed to vote his way.

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), who was leaning "no" on the motion as recently as last week, held out so that she could extract a high price for her support--$300 million, to be exact. Sen. Reid's "Louisiana Purchase" proved to be the clincher, along with eleventh hour commitments from "pro-life" Sens. Ben Nelson (D-Nebr.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.), who both voted to advance a bill that specifically funds abortion in at least two new government programs. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) was one of several Republicans who made passionate pleas from the Senate floor. "It's arrogant to dump 15 million low-income Americans into a medical ghetto... that none of us or any of our families would ever want to join.

It's arrogant to send to the states, which are going broke, a big chunk of the bill. It's arrogant to tell the American people that the bill will only cost $849 billion and think they're not smart enough to... figure out that it will actually cost $2.5 trillion..." Others like Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Sam Brownback (R-Kans.), and Mike Johanns (R-Nebr.) made it abundantly clear that voting to proceed meant voting to proceed with federally-funded abortion. Instead of adding the popular Stupak-Pitts language that a bipartisan majority endorsed in the House, Sen. Reid included a provision that expands--not excludes--taxpayer-funded abortion.

To understand the damage that his language could do, check out FRC's comparison of the Stupak amendment with Sen. Reid's abortion provisions. There is still time to change the language, but it will take persistence on everyone's part. One way you can help is to call, email, and visit your Senators' offices over the Thanksgiving break. If your Senators happen to be Republican, contact them anyway and encourage them to keep fighting. If you live in Maine, where it's tough to know what the party loyalties are, push harder.

Barack Obama: A Terrorist's Friend

Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families, points out Obama's deception.

Holder Gets Hammered

Yesterday I reported on Attorney General Eric Holder’s testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee about his decision to have five 9/11 conspirators, including mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, tried in civilian court in New York City. I was very proud of the way Republican senators on the committee aggressively questioned Holder about his decision. Below are highlights and some of my thoughts on the hearing.

  • One issue not addressed was the guidelines military officers should follow on the battlefield regarding captured terrorists. Are they supposed to tell terrorists they have “the right to remain silent”? Will they be able to gather the necessary intelligence that could save Americans lives? Will terrorists be able to ask for a lawyer before an interrogation? All of these questions still need to be answered, and in the meantime American commanders are put in a very dangerous position.

  • Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) mentioned that Holder has connections to lawyers who represented GITMO detainees. Kyl wanted to know if they were involved in any way in the decision. Not surprisingly, Holder dodged the question. According to Michelle Malkin, Eric Holder was a senior partner with a “prestigious” Washington D.C., law firm that represents 17 Yemenis who are held at GITMO.

  • Holder also has a disturbing history: As a deputy attorney general in the Clinton Administration, Holder overrode internal opposition at the Justice Department and directed the Office of the Pardon Attorney to support clemency for members of the FALN, a Puerto Rican terrorist group.

  • President Obama said Wednesday that he expects Mohammed to be convicted and executed. Defense attorneys for the terrorists could use these statements as evidence that their clients cannot receive a fair trial. Also, defense attorneys can prolong the jury selection process by arguing that it is impossible to find an impartial jury in a city where over 3,000 of its residents were killed. A motion for a change of venue seems highly likely.

  • Senator Kyl asked Holder, “How could you be more likely to get a conviction in federal court, when Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has already asked to plead guilty before a military commission, and be executed? How could you be more likely to get a conviction in federal court than that?” Holder said he “doesn’t know what Khalid Sheikh Mohammed wants to do now.”

Despite the risks for the country, and the message this decision sends to terrorists, the Obama Administration has refused to back down. It is becoming clearer by the day that Obama and his cronies care more about their radical agenda than they do about seeking the real justice that these thugs deserve, a death sentence decided in a military tribunal, not in civilian court.

"Someone needs to inform our apprentice president that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. It is not on the negotiating table. The insistence by Barack Obama and the U.N. that more Jews not be permitted to live in a Jerusalem neighborhood is arrogant and racist. And it is further proof that this administration’s goal is to divide the holy city of Jerusalem and divide Israel – forcing it to shrink itself to within indefensible borders while it is surrounded by Islamofascists who declare their desire to “wipe Israel off the map.”

The president should devote his time to creating jobs for out of work Americans, instead of acting as if he is in charge of the Jerusalem Zoning Board."

A Prayer of Thanks for All We Have Been Given

We pray to our Heavenly Father who gave us life. You gave us the ability to love, to understand complex situations. You gave us the ability to forgive. You gave us the ability to be responsible and to lead productive lives. You gave us the ability to make choices in life. You gave us the ability to make war and you gave us the ability to make peace.

We don’t always understand and comply with your instructions as given to us in the Holy Bible. 2,000 years ago, you sent your son that our sins might be forgiven.

6,000 years ago, you gave us Abraham and all the teachers and prophets that followed. All of the wisdom and knowledge handed down to us has not gone to waste, even if we are still struggling to master the art of life. We thank you for all of your many blessings.

We are concerned that our precious young men and women will not be sacrificed in vain in the horrible war-torn land of Afghanistan. We strive that all of our power of prayer be directed to the safety and welfare of these men and women.

In Christ we pray,

Amen

Quote of the Day

"Our submissive president has done it again. You will remember that last April at the G-20 meeting, Obama performed a deep bow before King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, igniting a firestorm of criticism. This weekend, demonstrating that he is a slow learner, Obama did it again – bowing at the waist to greet Japan’s Emperor Akihito.

The White House immediately claimed Obama was merely following protocol. Wrong. You can go to this
video and see dozens of other heads of state greeting Akihito without bowing. U.S. presidents should never bow.

Reaction has been overwhelmingly negative. My friend Bill Bennett said a photo of the encounter was “ugly.” He added, “We don’t defer to emperors. We don’t defer to kings…” Bill Kristol observed that he doubts Sarah Palin would have bowed or even curtseyed. (Please, Bill, don’t give Obama any ideas – I’d hate to see him curtsey!)

The bow hit such a nerve because Americans increasingly are concluding that our whole foreign policy under President Obama has become one big bow and apology. When he has a chance to remind the world of our defense of liberty, by going to Berlin to mark the anniversary of the fall of wall, for example, Obama refuses to go. But he never misses an opportunity to go to a forum and pronounce his own country guilty of imagined sins and offenses.

Rush Limbaugh sarcastically suggested today that Obama bows to royalty because he is jealous and hopes that someday he will be bowed to also. Not going to happen!"

Patients either recovered or died, according to Dr. Alagia who worked at Baltimore's St. Agnes Hospital during the epidemic.

"H.R. 3962 will mandate the distribution of end-of-life materials about assisted suicide options in Oregon and Washington. At the request of Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), the pro-euthanasia organization Compassion and Choices also added "advance care planning consultations" as a new optional Medicare-covered benefit. This would open the door for Medicare to pay for end-of-life consultations that include assisted suicide options in states where it is legal. Both provisions include language that claims these sections don't encourage the promotion of "suicide or assisted suicide." But in crafting their state laws, Oregon and Washington redefined the act of assisting in a suicide as "death with dignity," explicitly stating that such action is not legally considered assisted suicide-even though by medical definition that is exactly what it is. Think such rationing of care could never happen? It already has in Oregon, where patients were told their state provided insurance would not cover treatment but would gladly pick up the cost if they went the assisted suicide route. Just don't call them death panels..."
