Has Ohio Become a Muslim State?
Please send Rifqa a Christmas card. Let her know you stand with her. Send it to:
"Rifqa Bary’s civil rights are being violated by the state of Ohio. She is being for all intents and purposes held prisoner, deprived of access to a phone, to the Internet, and to public school. And why is all this being done? What crime has she committed? The Ohio authorities may not realize what they are doing, but they are holding Rifqa under house arrest in accord with Sharia law, which stipulates that female apostates are to be imprisoned until they recant. Ohio is effectively practicing Sharia law."

Quotes of the Day
Darla Dawald, National Director, Patriotic Resistance "Thanksgiving is a wonderful American day. We think mostly of our families and the joys of getting closer with our families. Thanksgiving is also a day to be thankful for our unique country and its history of generosity and freedom. As we face the challenges ahead, let us draw strength from this day, from our country and from each other. Happy Thanksgiving!" "THANK YOU SO MUCH for standing shoulder to shoulder with us in this battle against forced unionism tyranny." Mark Mix, President "I hope that this week as you think of the things you and your family are thankful for, you will think about the current health care debate and the fact that we have not yet lost to the forces of big government. That you will think too about the success of the tea party movement and how the new film "TEA PARTY" can further spotlight its effectiveness." Matt Kibbe, President and CEO, FreedomWorks "On this day of Thanksgiving, we remember that man does not live by bread alone. Certainly, the best of our country's leaders understood this. That is doubtless why, when Washington took the first Oath as President, in the presence of God and a cloud of witnesses, he kissed the Bible. Of all things for which we give thanks this day, we are most grateful for the Lord God and His Word." Tony Perkins, President, Family Research Council "But, let us think about the REAL meaning of the Thanksgiving holiday, not just the things that the world has tried to use to get our eyes off of that meaning." |

The good folks at ColdWater Media have produced the Drive Thru History series in partnership with Focus on the Family and Trinity Broadcasting Network. They have posted a short video about the Pilgrims that you and your children can watch here. (Click on “Happy Thanksgiving” in the upper right corner.) It is remarkable to consider the tremendous adversity the Pilgrims overcame hundreds of years ago. In many ways, our struggles today, as real as they are, pale in comparison.

Does Obama think America is too Stupid to Notice?
Yesterday, President Obama took the opportunity to introduce his latest initiative: Educate to Innovate. With the help of Big Bird and Elmo, the White House will be pushing math and science proficiency--something his own administration could desperately use. Last week, ABC News broke the story that the stimulus spending didn't add up, pointing to a serious breakdown in calculations by the Recovery Board. For starters, the website that monitors the stimulus dollars, www.recovery.gov, was bragging about job creation in places like Arizona's 15thCongressional District. The only problem is the 15thDistrict doesn't exist! Nor does Puerto Rico's 99th District, which is said to have received $47 million, and countless others. Apparently, the Recovery Board created to track the stimulus needs help keeping itself on track.
Hundreds of millions of dollars are either missing or misidentified. In dozens of fake districts, the website claims millions of dollars were spent to create a handful of jobs. Take Oklahoma, for instance. Recovery.gov says it took the Sooners $19 million to create 15 jobs! Still, Ed Pound, a spokesman for the Recovery Board, announced yesterday that the agency has no intention of correcting its math. "Unless we find significant errors causing public confusion, we are not planning further corrections," said Pound. "Significant errors" like inflating the number of jobs created by 20,000? "Humans make mistakes," Pound told reporters. They sure do--like agreeing to bills like this one.
If the administration is planning new lessons in science, sign the White House up for those too! Last week's Climategate showed how misguided the President's environmental policies--like cap-and-trade policies--have been. By cracking into the servers of the Climatic Research Units, hackers exposed the fraud of global warming in dozens of emails written by the world's environmental experts. According to the messages, scientists were manipulating the facts to hide their own inconvenient truth, which is that global temperatures have actually been on the decline. Of course, plenty of scientists had debunked those theories before the controversy, but President Obama insisted on moving forward with his agenda in direct contradiction to the facts.

Stop Obamacare!
It's Thanksgiving week on Capitol Hill, and it looks like the turkeys have fled D.C. for their home states. Their departure followed a tough vote on Saturday night, in which the Senate officially agreed to move forward with Sen. Harry Reid's (D-Nev.) joke of a health care bill. By strict party lines (60-39), the Democrats voted against the American people to railroad their $2.5 trillion legislation to the Senate floor, where debate is expected to begin as early as November 30. Although a handful of Democrats seemed to be teetering on the edge heading into the weekend, others waited until Sen. Harry Reid sweetened the pot until they committed to vote his way.
Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), who was leaning "no" on the motion as recently as last week, held out so that she could extract a high price for her support--$300 million, to be exact. Sen. Reid's "Louisiana Purchase" proved to be the clincher, along with eleventh hour commitments from "pro-life" Sens. Ben Nelson (D-Nebr.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.), who both voted to advance a bill that specifically funds abortion in at least two new government programs. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) was one of several Republicans who made passionate pleas from the Senate floor. "It's arrogant to dump 15 million low-income Americans into a medical ghetto... that none of us or any of our families would ever want to join.
It's arrogant to send to the states, which are going broke, a big chunk of the bill. It's arrogant to tell the American people that the bill will only cost $849 billion and think they're not smart enough to... figure out that it will actually cost $2.5 trillion..." Others like Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Sam Brownback (R-Kans.), and Mike Johanns (R-Nebr.) made it abundantly clear that voting to proceed meant voting to proceed with federally-funded abortion. Instead of adding the popular Stupak-Pitts language that a bipartisan majority endorsed in the House, Sen. Reid included a provision that expands--not excludes--taxpayer-funded abortion.
To understand the damage that his language could do, check out FRC's comparison of the Stupak amendment with Sen. Reid's abortion provisions. There is still time to change the language, but it will take persistence on everyone's part. One way you can help is to call, email, and visit your Senators' offices over the Thanksgiving break. If your Senators happen to be Republican, contact them anyway and encourage them to keep fighting. If you live in Maine, where it's tough to know what the party loyalties are, push harder.

Quote of the Day
"The obvious outcome of the administration's policies will be more illegal immigration. But the real result will be higher taxes for government benefits, crowded classrooms, burdened hospital emergency rooms, and fewer jobs for Americans. It is the American people who should weep for the future of our country."
Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX)
Barack Obama: A Terrorist's Friend
- One issue not addressed was the guidelines military officers should follow on the battlefield regarding captured terrorists. Are they supposed to tell terrorists they have “the right to remain silent”? Will they be able to gather the necessary intelligence that could save Americans lives? Will terrorists be able to ask for a lawyer before an interrogation? All of these questions still need to be answered, and in the meantime American commanders are put in a very dangerous position.
- Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) mentioned that Holder has connections to lawyers who represented GITMO detainees. Kyl wanted to know if they were involved in any way in the decision. Not surprisingly, Holder dodged the question. According to Michelle Malkin, Eric Holder was a senior partner with a “prestigious” Washington D.C., law firm that represents 17 Yemenis who are held at GITMO.
- Holder also has a disturbing history: As a deputy attorney general in the Clinton Administration, Holder overrode internal opposition at the Justice Department and directed the Office of the Pardon Attorney to support clemency for members of the FALN, a Puerto Rican terrorist group.
- President Obama said Wednesday that he expects Mohammed to be convicted and executed. Defense attorneys for the terrorists could use these statements as evidence that their clients cannot receive a fair trial. Also, defense attorneys can prolong the jury selection process by arguing that it is impossible to find an impartial jury in a city where over 3,000 of its residents were killed. A motion for a change of venue seems highly likely.
- Senator Kyl asked Holder, “How could you be more likely to get a conviction in federal court, when Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has already asked to plead guilty before a military commission, and be executed? How could you be more likely to get a conviction in federal court than that?” Holder said he “doesn’t know what Khalid Sheikh Mohammed wants to do now.”

A Prayer of Thanks for All We Have Been Given

Quote of the Day
The White House immediately claimed Obama was merely following protocol. Wrong. You can go to this video and see dozens of other heads of state greeting Akihito without bowing. U.S. presidents should never bow.
Reaction has been overwhelmingly negative. My friend Bill Bennett said a photo of the encounter was “ugly.” He added, “We don’t defer to emperors. We don’t defer to kings…” Bill Kristol observed that he doubts Sarah Palin would have bowed or even curtseyed. (Please, Bill, don’t give Obama any ideas – I’d hate to see him curtsey!)
The bow hit such a nerve because Americans increasingly are concluding that our whole foreign policy under President Obama has become one big bow and apology. When he has a chance to remind the world of our defense of liberty, by going to Berlin to mark the anniversary of the fall of wall, for example, Obama refuses to go. But he never misses an opportunity to go to a forum and pronounce his own country guilty of imagined sins and offenses.
Rush Limbaugh sarcastically suggested today that Obama bows to royalty because he is jealous and hopes that someday he will be bowed to also. Not going to happen!"
