Obenshain To Receive ACU Defender of Liberty Award
RICHMOND—[Earlier] Today,
Senator Mark Obenshain accepted the "Defender of Liberty" award
from the American Conservative Union at a reception in Richmond. The award
is given to Virginia legislators who receive 100% on the ACU's scorecard, which
charts votes on pro-liberty legislation.
"It's
an honor to receive the ACU's Defender of Liberty Award," said Obenshain.
"Throughout my career in the Senate, I have worked to defend the liberties
of all Virginians, and I am grateful for this recognition."
"My
father, Dick Obenshain, wrote that the most important goal in his life was to
have a meaningful impact on preserving and expanding the realm of personal
freedom in the life of this nation," Obenshain added. "I've made that
my life's goal as well."
This
is the second year that the ACU has recognized Virginia legislators for their
commitment to liberty. Senator Obenshain was a "Defender of Liberty"
award recipient last year as well.
Senator
Mark Obenshain is a candidate for Attorney General. He represents the
twenty-sixth district in the Virginia Senate. The district includes the city of
Harrisonburg and the counties of Warren, Shenandoah, Page, Rappahannock and
Rockingham (part).
