Congressman Bob Good: Congressman Good Update: Developing America’s Workforce

Thank You, Veterans

On Monday, Americans paused to honor the men and women in uniform who have bravely served our country. We owe a tremendous debt to all of these heroes.

It was a privilege for Tracey and me to attend a Veterans' Day event in Lynchburg, honoring our former service members. Tracey's father served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Developing America's Workforce

This week, I reintroduced my Developing America's Workforce Act which would reinstate the Trump Administration's apprenticeship policies to develop skilled workers for employers and bolster the American economy without piling on more college debt.

We have seen how colleges and universities are failing our students, saddling them with thousands of dollars in student loans and sending them into the workforce unprepared. My legislation seeks to provide another way—one that avoids an average of $28,000 in college debt, provides a much-needed boost for American employers in desperate need of skilled workers, and strengthens the economy.

The Developing America's Workforce Act will put American workers first and remove bureaucratic hurdles for businesses to develop skilled workers who will make the American economy more productive.

I believe this is a much-needed change for our country. You can read more about the Developing America's Workforce Act here.

FASFA Deadline Reformation

In 2023, instead of releasing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the traditional deadline of October 1, the Department of Education published a faulty application that was three months late. The next several months were spent fixing numerous technical issues, and this debacle led to a 12 percent reduction in FAFSA form completion.

The Department of Education is unfortunately consistent in their failures, as they also missed the most recent October 1, deadline for the full FAFSA form, just 45 days ago. Before the incompetence of the woke-obsessed Biden-Harris Administration, Congress could trust the Department of Education to complete its required work on time. However, this administration has instead been focused on the illegal and unconstitutional student-loan transfer scheme.

I offered an amendment that is now included in the FASFA Deadline Act that requires the Department of Education to certify to Congress one month in advance whether or not the FAFSA form will be ready by the October 1 deadline.

When Congress sets a deadline, we expect it to be followed. If agencies cannot meet that expectation, they need to explain why to the American people. I am pleased that the FASFA Deadline Act passed the House on Friday by a strong bipartisan vote of 381 to 1.

Our Existential Threat: The National Debt

Our nation is in $36 TRILLION in debt, with an additional $2 TRILLION deficit being added this past year alone. This is completely unsustainable.

A few days ago, every single Democrat and two-thirds of Republicans voted to add another $200 BILLION in new mandatory spending. It is another example of how Washington is threatening the financial future of our children and grandchildren.

Much of our federal spending is unjustified, unconstitutional, and truly wasteful. I am pleased that President Trump plans to empower Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to identify ways we can significantly reduce the size and cost of our massive federal bureaucracy.
