"Although the gun legislation failed to make it to the opposite chamber, gun control became a hot topic of debate as soon as we learned about the tragic shooting in a Florida high school. Numerous lawmakers pushed for more laws to limit gun ownership or where you can carry a gun. However, it is important to remember that there are already laws making it illegal to shoot people and that did not stop the gunman. There are already laws making it illegal to carry a gun onto school property but all that did was disarm law-abiding citizens and prevent them from defending themselves on school property. It certainly did not stop the gunman.
"We protect our president with guns. We protect Congress with guns. However, we only protect our students with Gun Free Zone signs. We must stop pushing addition limitations on law-abiding citizens in the name of safety. We need to get serious about protecting our schools by allowing faculty to carry concealed and/or hire retired military and police to stand ready to stop future attacks."
