Marjorie Dannenfelser, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America

SBA Statement on GOP Platform

Washington, D.C. – In response to draft Republican Party platform language approved today, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser made the following statement:

"It is important that the GOP reaffirmed its commitment to protect unborn life today through the 14th Amendment. Under this amendment, it is Congress that enacts and enforces its provisions. The Republican Party remains strongly pro-life at the national level.

"The mission of the pro-life movement, for the next six months, must be to defeat the Biden-Harris extreme abortion agenda.

"The platform allows us to provide the winning message to 10 million voters, with four million visits at the door in key battleground states. We are educating voters on the Biden-Harris promotion of abortion for any reason even in the seventh, eighth, or ninth month. We contrast that with protecting the states' ability to create consensus pro-life laws and provide compassionate options for women and children."

This election cycle, SBA Pro-Life America and its affiliated entities plan to spend $92 million to protect life across America. The groups' largest-ever voter contact program includes reaching 10 million voters—with four million visits directly at their homes—across eight key battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul: Update from Dr. Rand Paul – July 8, 2024

Dr. Rand Paul Leads Letter Requesting Hearing on Threat of Terrorist Exploiting Southern Border

Recently, as Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), I, along with fellow HSGAC members Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI), James Lankford (R-OK), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Rick Scott (R-FL), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and Roger Marshall (R-KS), sent a letter to committee Chairman Gary Peters requesting a hearing to examine the threat of individuals exploiting the Southern border for potential terrorist activities.

ImageThe letter outlines how the Biden administration has allowed millions to cross the border, including an increased number of individuals with potential criminal and terrorist intent, such as the recent arrests of eight foreign nationals with suspected ties to ISIS. Since 2021, an alarming 360 individuals on the terrorist watchlist attempting to cross the Southwest border illegally have been apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Due to these numbers, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray expressed concern over the threat posed by the increased number of known or suspected terrorists attempting to exploit the Biden administration's vulnerable border policies.

As a result, we have requested a hearing with top officials from the relevant federal agencies to discuss strategies on how to handle the significant increase in terrorists entering the country due to the Biden administration's failed policies.

FRC Action's Tony Perkins Statement on the Adoption of the 2024 Republican Party Platform

Milwaukee, WI -- Family Research Council Action Chairman Tony Perkins, who is a member of the RNC Platform Committee from Louisiana, released the following statement in response to the adoption of the 2024 Republican Party Platform:

"The 2024 platform is a concise statement of campaign priorities, but not a declaration of enduring principles for a political party. Unfortunately, the choreographed process -- which allowed no amendments to be discussed or voted upon -- was unbecoming of a party that champions free speech and due process. Delegates were given the platform this morning when they entered the convention hall with no time to review, much less the 72 hours that Republican lawmakers call for in the House of Representatives.

"Delegates were only given a few minutes of discussion before 'debate' was ended and a vote was taken. Ironically, the document calls for a vigorous defense of free speech and the end of government censorship. Deprived of the opportunity to discuss amendments to the 'draft' platform document, we have submitted a minority report to supplement that campaign's platform.

"The submission of a minority report is further evidence that the pro-life movement will continue to advance pro-life principles and policies at every level of government.

"The right to life transcends other political debates and the interests of any and all political parties and candidates. It is truly the right without which no other right has any meaning," concluded Perkins.

My Health Forward: U.S. Farm Bill

Dangers Hidden in the New Farm Bill

The new U.S. Farm Bill will provide protections for pesticide manufacturers at the detriment of America's health. The U.S. House of Representatives Agriculture Committee passed its version of the Farm Bill in late May. Section 10204 of the farm bill would give immunity to pesticide producers from liability lawsuits associated with any harm or adverse health effects caused by exposure to their products. Section 10205 would block state and local governments from passing laws about pesticides or requiring more disclosures on pesticide labels.

Over 40 states currently restrict pesticide use near schools because of the significant health risk. The EWG found that 4,028 elementary schools are within 200 feet of a crop field where pesticides can be sprayed. The new farm bill would prevent any jurisdictions from passing any measures to protect the health and safety of schoolchildren.

According to the 2024 lobbying disclosures, House committee head Glenn Thompson received $10,000 from the National Confectioners Assn, American Crystal Sugar, Minnesota Corn Growers Assn, and Syngenta Corp. Syngenta is one of the four largest agrochemical herbicide, insecticide, and fungicide manufacturers and is owned by ChemChina. The Senate Agriculture Committee released their framework for the new Farm Bill but have yet to vote on it. Arkansas Sen. John Boozman, the committee head, also received $20,000 from Syngenta.

You can contact your House Representatives and U.S. Senators to tell them that you don't support these measures.

Washington Examiner: America desperately needs to bring back civics in education

America desperately needs to bring back civics in education

Civil society has deteriorated over the last three decades as people have withdrawn from civic life. The root cause of this trend lies in our failed education system, which has substituted nation-building civic education with destructive activism. I've seen the results of this failed education firsthand in the classroom as a political science professor. Today's […]

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - To commence July 4th festivities, Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin yesterday presented a Spirit of Virginia Award to The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, a private, not-for-profit, educational institution. As hundreds listened to the recitation of the Declaration of Independence while being serenaded by the Fifes & Drums, the Governor and First Lady highlighted the critical importance of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's stewardship of the largest U.S. history museum in the world.

"The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation embodies the spirit of Virginia, where history isn't just preserved, but brought to life," said Governor Glenn Youngkin. "It's a place where the echoes of our past resonate with the promise of our future, inspiring us to embrace our heritage with pride and purpose."

"The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation serves as a cornerstone of Virginia's cultural and educational landscape, enriching our community by showing our nation's incredible history," said First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin. "As my husband always says, Virginia's history is America's history, and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation aims to show this every day."

"We are honored to receive this recognition for our work to share a complete, inclusive and factual history of our nation and the Commonwealth," said Colonial Williamsburg president and CEO Cliff Fleet. "We are proud to be partnering closely with the Commonwealth and other organizations across Virginia and the nation as we plan to commemorate America's 250th anniversary, when we will celebrate the foundational principles that have made the United States a beacon for all who seek freedom and a better way of life."

"We are honored to receive this award for our efforts in sharing Virginia's rich history with the nation," said Carly Fiorina, Chair of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Board. "Virginia's history is America's story. We take pride in our leadership role, both in Virginia and across the nation, as we approach both America's 250th anniversary and our Foundation's centennial in 2026."

Williamsburg was Virginia's colonial capital at the time of the Revolution and served as the political, cultural and educational hub of the largest and most influential American colony from 1699 - 1780. As the American ideals of freedom and independence began to take root, Williamsburg played a critical role in determining the success of the New World.

In the early 20th century, after Virginia's capital moved north to Richmond, Colonial Williamsburg was restored to depict its original 18th-century appearance.

Today, The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation works to ensure that future generations have knowledge of Virgina's rich history. By preserving authentic sites where the essence of our nation was born, Colonial Williamsburg enables Americans to draw inspiration from the genuine stories of individuals who, through revolution, laid the foundation of a nation grounded in principles of equality and freedom.

The Spirit of Virginia Award honors exceptional characteristics and notable accomplishments throughout the Commonwealth, celebrating Virginians for their extraordinary contributions in private sectors, education, culture, the arts, and philanthropy.

The Governor and Mrs. Youngkin will present three more Spirit of Virginia Awards in 2024. All recipients of the Spirit of Virginia Award will be recognized during a holiday reception at Virginia's Executive Mansion to take place at the end of the year.

The Family Foundation: The Supreme Court’s Most Consequential Decision of 2024

Josh Hetzler, Legal Counsel

Wednesday, July 3, 2024

Presidential immunity, the FDA's abortion pill approval, January 6 prosecutions - the U.S. Supreme Court recently handed down major decisions on all these issues and more. But arguably the most earth-shaking and consequential of them all was the Court's decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, in which the court overturned 40 years of bad precedent that had allowed the administrative agencies (i.e. unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats) to effectively grow into a 4th branch of government.

This case represents a major win for the Constitution and will help significantly reign in the bloated federal government agencies, which in many ways have essentially replaced Congress and the Courts in their rule-making and enforcement powers.

The issue stemmed out of a 1984 Supreme Court case known as Chevron, from which we got the "Chevron deference" doctrine.  Basically, that Court held that when any part of a statute passed by Congress was "ambiguous", the regulatory body over that part of the law must be given deference by the courts in how they interpret and enforce that law against individuals and businesses. In other words, the power was taken out of the hands of the judicial branch to properly interpret the meaning of many of the laws passed by Congress.

But in a landmark 6-3 decision, the Court in Loper reversed Chevron! The Court held: "The Administrative Procedure Act requires courts to exercise their independent judgment in deciding whether an agency has acted within its statutory authority, and courts may not defer to an agency interpretation of the law simply because a statute is ambiguous; Chevron is overruled."

The Court reasoned: "Perhaps most fundamentally, Chevron's presumption is misguided because agencies have no special competence in resolving statutory ambiguities. Courts do. The Framers anticipated that courts would often confront statutory ambiguities and expected that courts would resolve them by exercising independent legal judgment."

So what will this ruling mean going forward? Well, a lot of things. For starters, it will mean a lot more lawsuits by Americans whose rights have been infringed by the whims of unelected bureaucrats. It will also require Congress to do its job by passing laws that a more clear, rather than relying on the executive agencies to sort it all out. And in turn, this should begin to reduce the expansive reach of the administrative state, which has severely disfigured our constitutional republic.

At this point, we can only imagine all the ways in which the regulatory agencies of the federal government will be put in check. But among them, it could impact issues like the Biden administration's recent regulations on Title IX that push "transgenderism" into every public school and seek to force boys into girls' bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams. Since all that was done under the guise of the term "sex" supposedly meaning something other than male or female in the Civil Rights Act passed by Congress, presumably the courts have more power to overrule the Department of Education's ideological power grab.

It will take a while for the consequences of this case to fully work their way through the myriad issues at stake in our nation, but this decision is a major and critical step in getting us back on track.

Thomas D. Klingenstein: Sam Brown's America

By Tom Klingenstein

Captain Sam Brown is running for the U.S. Senate from Nevada. I met Sam recently. His face was burned beyond recognition. A roadside bomb in Afghanistan had detonated under the fuel tank of his Humvee.

At first, his badly scarred face unsettled me. But after a few minutes in his company, his face softened, and I caught glimpses of the very handsome man he once was and the kind-hearted man he still is. I asked myself what had motivated him to make such a sacrifice. It was soon clear: God, family, and country. I then asked myself a more difficult question: Would I have made the same sacrifice?

He told me that after he was wounded, he despaired of finding a wife. He had always very much wanted a family, and he was trying to reconcile himself with having lost that opportunity. So, he went to the army chaplain. Sam expected the chaplain to tell him that he must leave his dream of a family behind him. But that was not at all what the chaplain said. He said that Sam would find someone who would look behind his scarred exterior. It sounds corny, but it helped him persevere. Today he has a wonderful wife and three flourishing children.

Sam Brown believes God has called him to continue fighting for his country. This time he will be fighting internal enemies— what I call "woke radicals." He hates how they are attacking America, its institutions and values. And most particularly he hates how they are attacking education...

Eagle Forum, Kris Ullman President: What Republicans Believe

The history of the battles over Republican Platforms teaches us that standing on principles of authentic conservatism and traditional values is the road to victory. Strong principled platforms are worth all the agony we put into writing and getting them adopted.Phyllis Schlafly
Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly served on the GOP Platform Committee nine times — from 1976 to 2012 — and was instrumental in ensuring the Republican Party became and remained pro-life. The language she first championed in 1976 "to seek enactment of a constitutional amendment to restore protection of the right to life for unborn children" has stood the test of time. Since then, conservatives have repeatedly crafted a Republican party platform that is pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-family, and pro-American. As grassroots delegates prepare for the 2024 GOP Platform, we urge them to include the following provisions from the 2016 GOP Platform.

Life
"We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to children before birth." (pg. 13)

"We oppose the use of public funds to perform or promote abortion…" and "will not fund or subsidize healthcare that includes abortion coverage." (pg. 13)

We oppose: "euthanasia and assisted suicide," human cloning," "embryonic stem cell research," "acquir[ing], transfer[ing], or sell[ing] fetal tissues from elective abortions for research," "sex-selection abortions and abortions based on disabilities." (pg. 14)

"We affirm our moral obligation to assist, rather than penalize, women who face an unplanned pregnancy." (pg. 14)

Marriage and Family
"…marriage between one man and one woman is the foundation for a free society and has for millennia been entrusted with rearing children and cultural values." (pg. 11)

Family is "the foundation of civil society and the cornerstone of the family is natural marriage, the union of one man and one woman." (pg. 31)

"Our laws and our government's regulations should recognize marriage as the union of one man and one woman and actively promote married family life as the basis of a stable and prosperous society." (pg. 31)

Speech
"We oppose any restrictions or conditions that would discourage citizens from participating in the public square or limit their ability to promote their ideas, such as requiring private organizations to publicly disclose their donors to the government." (pg. 12)

Religion
"…we strongly support the freedom of Americans to act in accordance with their religious beliefs, not only in their house of worship, but also in their everyday lives." (pg. 12)

Education
We "repeat our long-standing opposition to the imposition of national standards and assessments, encourage the parents and educators who are implementing alternatives to Common Core, and congratulate the states which have successfully repealed it." (pg. 33)

We call for "choice-based, parent-driven accountability at every level." (pg. 33)

"We emphatically support the original, authentic meaning of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972… That same provision of law is now being used by bureaucrats- and by the current President of the United States- to impose a social and cultural revolution upon the American people by wrongly defining sex discrimination to include sexual orientation or other categories." (pg. 35)

"The Administration's distortion of Title IX to micromanage the way colleges and universities deal with allegations of abuse contravenes our country's legal traditions and must be halted before it further muddles this complex issue and prevents the proper authorities from investigating and prosecuting sexual assault effectively with due process."  (pg. 35)

Immigration
"America's immigration policy must serve the national interest of the United States, and the interests of American workers must be protected over the claims of foreign nationals seeking the same jobs." (pg. 25)

We oppose "any form of amnesty," "sanctuary cities," and "support building and a wall along our southern border." (pg. 25-26)

"To keep our people safe, we must secure our borders, enforce, our immigration laws, and properly screen refugees and other immigrants entering from any country." (pg. 42)

Medical Freedom and Conscience
"We respect the rights of conscience of healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and organizations, especially faith-based groups which provide a major portion of care for the nation and needy." (pg. 37)

"American taxpayers should not be forced to fund abortion." (pg. 37)

"We call for a permanent ban on federal funding and subsidies for abortion and healthcare plans that include abortion coverage." (pg. 37)

Federalism
"We call for renewed efforts to reduce, rather than expand, government responsibilities, and we urge particular attention to the bloated public relations budgets of the departments and agencies."

Military
"Republicans continue to support American military superiority which has been the cornerstone of a strategy that seeks to deter aggression or defeat those who threaten our vital national security interests." (pg. 42)

"We support an all-volunteer force and oppose unnecessary policy changes, including compulsory national service and Selective Service registration of women for a possible future draft." (pg. 43)

Israel
"It is the responsibility of our government to advance policies that reflect Americans' strong desire for a relationship with no daylight between America and Israel.. . . Our party is proud to stand with Israel now and always." (pg. 47)

Human Trafficking
"We will use the full force of the law against those who engage in commercial sexual exploitation and forced or bonded labor of men, women or children; involuntary domestic servitude; trafficking in persons for the purpose of organ removal; and the illegal recruitment and use of child soldiers." (pg. 53)

We urge platform delegates to insert and support language regarding the following:
Gender
We affirm that sex is biologically binary- male and female- as is scientifically evidenced by reproductive potential.

Parents have the fundamental right to direct the health care decisions for their children and children have the fundamental right to be protected from permanent, risky, and experimental sex trait modification procedures.

Women and men deserve to feel safe in private spaces therefore, bathrooms, locker rooms, shelters, and prisons should have separate areas based on biological sex.

We reject the notion that biological males can compete in women's sports. Women and girls should be able to compete fairly against members of the same sex to preserve their physical well-being, privacy, and accomplishment potential.

Sovereignty
Our federal government should not participate in or fund global organizations such as the United Nations or the World Health Organization that seek authority over public health emergencies such as pandemics.

We affirm that all treaties and international agreements must be submitted to Congress for advice and consent before being agreed to by the Executive branch.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Critical Race Theory (CRT)
The federal government should not impose "diversity, equity, and inclusion" initiatives in any part of federal policy including agency measures, grants, military rules, and public schooling. We reject Critical Race Theory which seeks to divide Americans by race and ethnicity.
