Quote of the Day

"Words have meaning, and laws have purposes. This administration has shown that it has little regard for either. Today it's marriage. Tomorrow, it could be civil liberties or religious freedom that's redefined or ignored. The Senate should affirm the House's fortification of DOMA and the House should immediately begin holding hearings into the Administration's violation of existing federal law."

The Difference Between Democrats and Republicans

Taxing Your Retirement

Last week, with little notice, Senate Democrats held a hearing in the Finance Committee on ways to tax retirement savings. Just as we are beginning to have a national discussion about reforming entitlements and saving Social Security, Senate Democrats are trying to make it more difficult for hard-working Americans to save more.

Here's the thrust of the proposal: Contributions to 401(k) accounts would be subject to taxation, as would contributions to IRAs. Employer contributions would also be treated as taxable income. But you would be eligible for a refundable tax credit that would be deposited into some account.

And when you retire, guess what? "[W]ithdrawals from the accounts would continue to be taxed as income." Under current plans, you are taxed only once -- either now or later. But this new liberal proposal "shockingly" suggests that savers may be double-taxed.This bizarre idea is going nowhere, thankfully, because conservatives control the House of Representatives. But it is a good reminder of the differences between the two parties. Democrats' first instinct is always to raise taxes and find more revenue for Big Government, while Republicans want to let you keep more of your hard-earned money!

Quote of the Day

"Members of Congress — Democrats and Republicans alike — sit with a burden few even recognize. They are poised to preside over the dismantling of our military that will reshape the future of our nation. The complicated and intricate risks from these defense cuts might not be fodder for political speeches. They will not be chanted at rallies or scrawled on poster boards. But deep, looming defense cuts have the potency to reconfigure a nation of today into what is unrecognizable to those coming of age 10 and 20 years from now. Members of Congress would be wise to weigh carefully the risks of additional cuts to our national security."

Quote of the Day

"Here's one more reason why conservatives MUST win in November 2012: Obama's EPA is demanding $21 billion and 230,000 more bureaucrats to enforce its planned regulatory regime.

The EPA is currently fighting a legal challenge to its authority to regulate the greenhouse gases of 14,000 businesses. If the EPA wins its case, more than six million businesses could be forced to comply with burdensome new rules and regulations. But in court filings, the EPA makes this astonishing claim:"Hiring the 230,000 full-time employees necessary to produce the 1.4 billion work hours required to address the actual increase in permitting functions would result in an increase in Title V administration costs of $21 billion per year.""

Quotes of the Day

"Let me repeat: Obama's stimulus plan isn't a real jobs plan -- it is a reelection strategy built on class warfare. In three years, Barack Obama has morphed from the Herald of Hope to the Envoy of Envy."

“With all due respect — political correctness is not one of my strong points — it is a lie. And it is class warfare … Fifty percent of the American taxpayers pay 97 percent of the taxes. That’s not fair enough? When will it be fair? When 50 percent pay 100 percent?

“The mainstream media … give this president a pass on those kinds of statements. I’m not going to give this president a pass just because he’s the president of the United States of America. The American people need to know the truth. This is what I’m talking about … It is class warfare, pure and simple, and the facts bear that out.”

Tough Competition

Pinocchio, Snow White, and Superman are out for a stroll in town
one day. As they walk, they come across a sign:
"Beauty contest for the most beautiful woman in the world."

"I am entering"  said Snow White.

After half an hour she returns and they ask her:
"Well, how'd ya do?" "First Place" said Snow White.

They continue walking and they see a sign:
"Contest for the strongest man in the world."

"I'm entering" says Superman.

After half an hour he returns and they ask him:"How did you make out?"

"First Place" answers Superman. "Did you ever doubt?"
They continue walking when they see a sign:

"Contest! Who is the greatest liar in the world?"
Pinocchio enters.

After half an hour he returns with tears in his eyes.
"What happened?" they asked.

"Who the hell is Barack Obama?" asked Pinocchio.

Quotes of the Day

"...I just think that it is sad that they’re so short-sighted in really understanding what the whole Tea Party citizen movement is all about. I’m not offended by it, because it doesn't slow down my momentum. It doesn’t slow down the reaction that I get from people. They know that I bring my message from the heart and the head, and they’re responding to it. So, name calling is something that’s going to continue in this because they don’t know how to stop this movement. And this movement is making a big difference in politics, because a lot of the traditional Democrats are moving to the center or moving over to vote for conservatives. They’re taking another look at a Herman Cain."

"Former Democratic candidate for president John Edwards liked to lecture about two Americas: the privileged and the poor. But this quasi-Marxist theme does not describe the real two Americas: one, managed by "Experts," who believe they possess superior knowledge that translates into engineered regulations; and the other, common sense embodied by the common man."

Quote of the Day

"Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain and others have proposed killing the EPA.  Since the EPA now wants to kill me and other people like me, I think that is a spectacular idea.

This is government gone wild.  Take those over the counter inhalers away and some people who cannot afford prescription inhalers or cannot get to a pharmacy in time to get a prescription refilled, will die.  That is beyond dispute.

On Monday, I am calling my congressman to ask her to take some action that one day could save my life.  Congress needs to overrule this stupid EPA decision.  If you would call your Congressmen and Senators, I and a lot of other Asthmatics would appreciate it."

Pray for Heart Change

"Please pray for the children killed in China often drowned in buckets of their own blood or full term babies thrown into wells paid for with $50 million of our US taxpayer's dollars - an abomination.

Pray for forgiveness and heart change in the leaders of our nation and for the born and unborn round the earth"

Quote of the Day

"If Mr. Obama were honest, he would say, “From now on, everyone who risks their life savings and gives up the security of a five-days-a-week, 9-to-5 job, early retirement and guaranteed pension to start a business must be punished and have their earnings confiscated and redistributed to my voters.”"

Quote of the Day

"As President Obama has traveled around the country stumping for his latest stimulus spending bill, which he has the audacity to call a "jobs plan," he has challenged folks to read it. As more and more folks read the plan, they are finding it is full of contradictions that will likely doom it to failure, much like his previous stimulus bill. Here's just one issue to consider.

In order to help pay for this stimulus spending, Obama wants to tax the interest earned on municipal bonds. Municipal bonds are issued by states and localities to help fund various projects like roads and education. For decades the interest earned on these bonds hasn't been taxed in order to encourage investors and to offer the lowest possible interest rate so that cities and states could keep their costs down.

A lot of investors like municipal bonds because they are generally safe investments. They are willing to accept a lower return (interest rate) because they are tax free. It's a win-win for investors and the cities and states.

But now when many cities and states are struggling, Obama is proposing to take that tax advantage away from them. Doing so would drive up interest rates and increase the cost of borrowing.

So on the one hand Obama is proposing to send states more federal aid to keep teachers, firefighters and policemen on the job. But on the other hand he is proposing to pay for it in a way that increases costs for the states.

This makes absolutely no sense -- UNLESS you happen to be a left-wing socialist who believes that Big Government knows best and is the fount from which all blessings must flow!"

A Prayer for Courage

May we pray:

Our heavenly father, we thank you for our nation and the opportunities this country has given to millions of people over the last 300 plus years. "Opportunity" is the one word that best describes our country.

Currently, our ox is in the ditch. We have millions of families out of work and we have millions of people who have forgotten how to work. The old saying "when the going gets tough, the tough get going' seems to have vanished from our way of thinking.

We pray that our people will find the courage to never give up. We pray that our captains of industry will find work positions for those ready and willing to work.

We pray that our political leadership will support the entrepreneurial spirit across America.

We pray for the souls of our fallen soldiers. Please be with our men and women serving our country around the world.

Amen,
