WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Yesterday, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) appeared on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show which airs on more than 240 stations across the country. On the show, Sen. Graham weighed in on the Trump administration's sanctions imposed on Turkish officials who were involved in the arrest and imprisonment of American Pastor Andrew Brunson. After nearly two years in prison, the pastor was released last week to house arrest.
Senator Graham commented, "Pastor Brunson, I saw him in jail in Izmir. And a couple weeks later they let him out and he's at home now in Izmir, Turkey, and I appreciate that step. He's a wonderful man, committed to his faith. He was a pastor of a church for about 50 or 60 people. He no more wanted to overthrow the government of Turkey than I could be in the NBA. He got caught up in something not of his making. He's been in jail way to long. He is not an enemy of the Turkish people or the state of Turkey." Sen. Graham continued, "I want to tell your listeners who have prayed dutifully and passionately on behalf of Pastor Brunson, we're going to get a good outcome sooner rather than later."
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, and host of Washington Watch, added, "Continue to pray for Pastor Brunson. I did talk to the Secretary of State earlier this week about the case. This is a focal point, the administration is focusing very intently on it and the Secretary of State is taking the lead. But, we need to continue to pray."
