White House Ornaments For Sale

The 2008 White House Christmas ornament honors the first administration of the administration of President Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901), the twenty-third president of the United States. Serving one term from 1889 to 1893, Harrison was a centennial president inaugurated 100 years after George Washington. Inspired by the Harrison family’s Victorian Christmas tree, this 24 karat gold finished ornament interprets the first recorded tree to decorate the White House.

Ornaments are available from members of Madison County Republican Women. The ornament is priced at $18. To order call (540) 923-4300. Ornaments will be sold at their August 19th meeting at the Madison Presbyterian Church, 6:30 PM, and at Taste Of The Mountains, August 30th, Booth #56, near the Court House. Ornaments are also available at The Roost, located next to The Madison Inn Restaurant on Main Street.

Potomac Eagle Trip

Take the historic Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad on October 14th and enjoy one of America's most beautiful train rides. Enjoy a narrated excursion through a tranquil and pristine mountain valley and watch our magnificent national symbol, the American Bald Eagle soar high above in their natural habitat, undisturbed by the low rumblings of the occasional train and the passengers who have come for a sighting. No hiking required.

The trip is sponsored by Madison County Republican Women. Tickets are $75. per person and include a box lunch. Transportation to the train will be provided by David Messick, Owner/Operator of the Blue Ridge Coach Line. Passengers will board the bus at the Brightwood Ruritan Club, 7:00 AM and return around 5:00 PM. To sign up call (540) 923-4300. May 10th: “Child Safety Day”

MCRW Associate Member Bill Heflin attended a 4-day course at the Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Academy in Fairfax, VA to receive Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technician Certification. Associate Member Jerry Butler took the course at the Criminal Justice Academy in Ashburn, VA.

Tens of thousands of individuals have been nationally certified as Child Passenger Safety Technicians since the program began in 1997. They are able to provide child safety seat checks and give parents and caregivers education and assistance with child restraint systems and safety belts.

Bill said he could not believe how much there was to learn in order to put in a car seat. All the different car and car seat manufacturers provide a real challenge to anyone who attempts to install one, he added.

Bill and Jerry will be participating in Sheriff Erik Weaver’s “Child Safety Day” with free bike helmets and other handouts to be held at the Madison Firehouse on May 10, 2008, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Your Emergency Care is Needed

C.J. Sutphin, December 2007, Age - 5 years

C.J. Sutphin, grandson of Jim and Erline Arthur, has been on our prayer list for some time. MCRW VP Anne Farmer told us at our February 19th meeting, that little C.J. is back in the hospital. His mom, Kathy, has not been well and has serious health problems also.

This emergency situation has put their family under a severe strain financially.
