that came out of the Senate. Thankfully our floor finally looks a little closer to that of the House of Delegates. If you watched my speech stopping an infringement on our First Amendment rights last week, you may've noticed how obstructed the view was by the plexiglass cages the Democrats have kept up in the Senate. Despite scientific studies indicating that the cages didn't stop the spread of the virus, Democrats insisted on keeping them up in the Senate. But as of March 1st, the cages have come down and we can finally see each other while we debate on the floor. It's important to be able to look our colleagues in the eyes and see each other as people, especially when debates can be heated and passionate.
As many of you know, I am one of the co-chairs of the General Assembly Military and Veterans Caucus (GAMVC). This is a bipartisan caucus of Veterans and Military members that meets each week. Lieutenant Governor Sears joined us this week, as did some cadets from the National Guard's youth Challenge program. We also held our yearly GAMVC Reception on Thursday evening, where we had over 150 veterans from all over Virginia join us in Richmond. Governor Youngkin, Lieutenant Governor Sears, Attorney General Miyares, Secretary Crenshaw, and Major General Williams were all in attendance as well.
A conference committee, which I am a part of, has been working on my bill to provide retired veterans with major tax cuts looks to be finalizing. A conference committee is formed when similar bills pass the House and Senate and small differences need to be ironed out. The way it looks now, we'll be cutting taxes for veterans to the tune of $300,000,000 over the next two years.
