Quotes of the Day

"For more than a decade, NRA has fought for Right-to-Carry in Wisconsin. That perseverance and determination has paid off. Now, Wisconsinites are one step closer to being able to defend themselves outside their homes. Thanks to the actions of a bipartisan majority of state legislators, honest people who choose to get a permit will be less vulnerable to criminal attacks outside their homes. NRA is grateful for the unwavering leadership of Senators Pam Galloway, Rich Zipperer and Neal Kedzie, Assembly Majority Leader Scott Suder and Representative Jeffrey Mursau who fought for the passage of Right-to-Carry in Wisconsin."

"We've heard talk about cutting spending by two trillion if that is stretched over 10 or more years," [and] we can't bind a future Congress to that. The only way we can bind a future Congress is by amendment the Constitution."

"No school would dream of taking your kids on a field trip without asking permission. So it seems a little ridiculous that there are people in America who think it's okay to take young girls to another state for an abortion without calling home! Yesterday, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fl.), Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) tried to put a stop to this outrage by introducing the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act (CIANA). Under this law, it would be a federal crime to take a girl across state lines to bypass the parental involvement laws in her home state. If the legislation sounds familiar, it's because the House passed it twice in 2005 and 2006. This time around, 86 members of Congress have co-sponsored the bill (H.R. 2299), and leaders expect even more. In America, most children can't get their ears pierced without a mom or dad's consent. What parent would say that's more dangerous than undergoing major surgery?"

Quote of the Day

"If Obama is reelected, he will have the opportunity to pack the court with more left-wing activists, radically changing its balance of power. Beyond redefining marriage and promoting abortion-on-demand, an emboldened liberal majority would not hesitate to eviscerate cherished values, including free speech, religious liberty and Second Amendment rights."

An Obama Gun Grab

from Dudley Brown, Executive Director, National Association for Gun Rights

The ATF has their anti-gun sights set on your SHOTGUN.

The ATF’s ridiculously anti-gun study suggests that certain, and in many cases very random, criteria would make a shotgun unable to be imported. Those random criteria include:

• Folding, telescoping or collapsible stocks;
• Bayonet lugs;
• Flash suppressors;
• Magazines over 5 rounds, or a drum magazine;
• Integrated rail systems;
• Light enhancing devices;
Excessive weight (greater than 10 pounds for a 12 gauge);
Excessive bulk;
• Forward pistol grip.

The ATF Study on the Importability of Certain Shotguns is nothing short of an assault on the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

The implication of certain shotguns being more dangerous than others simply because one may have a light or be “excessively heavy” is ludicrous and shows a blatant lack of knowledge regarding home defense shotguns.

Furthermore, attempting to redefine what constitutes a “sporting purpose” shotgun shows a willful disregard for both shooting sports in general and, specifically, the individual gun owner.

They have opened up a comment period – open until April 30 – by which the general public can voice their opinions on this “study.”

Quote of the Day

"Did you know that in 27 states only criminals are allowed to carry firearms on a college campus?

That’s right, in over half of the states in our country, law-abiding citizens are prevented from protecting themselves in institutions of “higher learning.”

And we all know what that means.

Criminals don’t follow rules, so the only people that law applies to are peaceful people like you and me.

I call these gun free zones “Criminal Safezones”, since only criminals are armed, and therefore, safe from citizens who want to protect themselves."

“The most fearsome weapons wielded by Mexico’s drug cartels enter the country from Central America, not the United States, according to U.S. diplomatic cables disseminated by WikiLeaks and published on Tuesday byLa Jornada newspaper. Items such as grenades and rocket-launchers are stolen from Central American armies and smuggled into Mexico via neighboring Guatemala, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City reported to Washington.”

Free Brian Aitken

from the National Association for Gun Rights

"Despite not violating ANY of New Jersey’s outrageous firearms laws, Brian was arrested for the “unlawful” possession of a handgun.

Throughout his trial, the anti-gun statists in the New Jersey legal system routinely blocked Brian’s attorney from presenting evidence of Brian’s innocence. New Jersey law specifically states that the transportation of handguns between residences is legal.

Despite the incontrovertible evidence that Brian was transporting his legally purchased handguns from his mother’s home to his new apartment, the anti-gun Judge refused to permit Brian’s legal team from informing the jury of this portion of state law.

Jurors even asked the judge three times if state law contained exemptions for the transportation of handguns from one residence to another, but the anti-gun crusader disguised as a judge refused to answer.

Additionally, federal law allows for the transportation of firearms between residences without fear of state prosecution; however, the same anti-gun judge refused to take federal law into consideration in Brian’s case.

Brian Aitken was convicted of felony possession of a handgun and faces up to seven years in jail.

Think you’re safe 'cause you live in a “pro-gun” state? Think again.

Expect to hear statists across the country calling for increased enforcement of “existing” gun law.

That’s code for twisting current law to maliciously prosecute gun owners, and it’s nothing new: the institutional gun lobby has been promoting this for more than a decade.

State and local governments will respond to this anti-gun cattle call and will race to create new ways to infringe upon your rights through bureaucratic fiat and “rule” changes.

That’s exactly what happened in New Jersey and an innocent man was convicted simply because he owned guns

Tell Webb & Warner to vote NO! to Elena Kagan

***The Senate Judiciary Committee approved Kagan's nomination in a vote of 13-6. One Republican, Sen. Graham (R-SC), voted in favor of Kagan's nomination. Her nomination will now go before the full Senate with a vote expected in the next few weeks.***
Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) has announced he will oppose Kagan's nomination.
Call your Senator now!

10 Reasons to Call your Senator about the Kagan Hearings

It's time to let your voice be heard on the Kagan nomination!

1. Elena Kagan brings no judicial experience to the table.

2. The Supreme Court will likely hear arguments on the constitutionality of Obamacare in the next few years. Elena Kagan could be the deciding vote on Obamacare.

3. Elena Kagan is a political ideologue-she has worked for a string of liberal Democrats including: Bill Clinton, Janet Reno, Barack Obama and Eric Holder.

4. As Dean of Harvard's Law School, Elena Kagan banned US military recruiters from the campus. She lost her battle when the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the law in 2006.

5. Elena Kagan's stand on several social issues could demonstrate that she would impose personal views in her rulings instead of adhering to the law. We need justices who will strictly interpret the constitution.

6. Elena Kagan has praised Israeli activist Judge Aharon Barak as "her hero." Judge Barak is considered to be one of the worst activist judges. In his book, The Judge in a Democracy, Barak writes, "a good judge is a judge who, within the bounds of legitimate possibilities, makes law that, more than other law he is authorized to make, best bridges the gap between law and society and best protects the constitution and its values. He also says that judges should go "beyond actually deciding the dispute."

7. Elena Kagan is a Litigation Committee member of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). The AAUP is censoring a long list of conservative schools.

8. Elena Kagan has a troubling record on the Second Amendment.

9. There are surprisingly few pieces of documentation representing Kagan's beliefs and where she stands on the issues.

10. Elena Kagan has donated over $12,050 to Democratic campaigns over a span of 8 years.

Second Amendment Action Needed

This week's NRA-ILA Alert discusses Second Amendment legislation in Virginia.

VIRGINIA: Four Pro-Gun Bills Heading to the Governor's Desk! On Monday, March 1, the Virginia State Senate voted to approve four NRA-supported bills; House Bill 8, House Bill 637, House Bill 871 and House Bill 1256. These bills will now go to the desk of Governor Bob McDonnell (R) for his consideration. To learn more about these bills and how you can contact the Governor on their behalf, please click here.

Virginia House Repeals Ban on Concealed Carry in Restaurants! On Tuesday, March 2, the Virginia House of Delegates voted to approve Senate Bill 334 by a margin of 72 to 27. The measure previously passed in the Senate on February 16, by a vote of 22 to 18 and will now be sent to Governor Bob McDonnell's (R) desk for his consideration. SB334 would allow concealed carry permit holders to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense in restaurants that serve alcohol, provided they do not consume alcohol. Senator Hanger's bill would make it a misdemeanor for a permit holder to consume alcohol while on the premises of the restaurant. Please contact Governor McDonnell and respectfully request he sign Senate Bill 334 and bring Virginia in line with 40 other states that allow some form of concealed carry in restaurants.

"Castle Doctrine" Legislation Defeated in Senate Committee In another sign that the Senate Courts of Justice Committee is out of touch with the common beliefs of the citizens of Virginia, a bill designed to codify the common law principle known as the "Castle Doctrine," was defeated by a vote of 9 to 6. House Bill 854 would have provided immunity from civil prosecution if someone used force, including deadly force, to defend themselves and their loved ones if attacked in their home by someone who has entered unlawfully. This is just another example of the difference between the House and Senate chambers in Virginia and how they view our individual rights. The House of Delegates passed HB854 on February 16 by a margin of 75-24. Please contact the members of the Committee who voted in favor of your self-defense rights and thank them for their support! Please click here for contact information.

Senate's Special Sub-Committee Kills Pro-Gun Bills The special Sub-Committee formed earlier this week to kill firearm-related bills performed its intended goal by defeating a large number of pro-gun bills designed to protect our Second Amendment rights. Just a few weeks ago, the House of Delegates passed these bills with many garnering strong bi-partisan support. Despite killing numerous pro-gun bills, the Special Sub-Committee did pass three bills. Please click here to learn more.

Virginia Department of Forestry Accepting Public Comment on Concealed Carry in State Forests! The Virginia Department of Forestry is currently accepting public comment on the proposed amendment to Virginia State Forest Regulation 4VAC10-30-170, which would allow concealed carry permit holders who possess a valid permit to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense within Virginia's state forests. Public comments will be accepted by the Virginia Department of Forestry until Friday, April 16. Please click here to submit comments respectfully urging the Virginia Department of Forestry to amend their Administrative Code and to support the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Virginians. Also, please attend a public hearing scheduled for Thursday, March 4 at 1:00 p.m. to show your support for this proposed amendment. The hearing will be held at the Buckingham Agriculture Center Auditorium located at 13360 West James Anderson Highway in Buckingham.

Fighting Anti-Gun Lies and Laws

Second Amendment Patriot Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-VA) is sending shivers up the spines of statists who love laws that frustrate and entangle law-abiding gun owners.

Rolling back restrictions

One of the unfair criticisms levied against those of us that strongly support second amendment rights is that we are comfortable having firearms in the hands of criminals. Nothing could be further from the truth. Those that support second amendment rights know that the right to bear arms is also a responsibility. We take safety, education, and prevention seriously.

Currently, however, there are complex and unnecessary laws on the books that make it difficult for lawful gun owners and dealers to comply with laws to prevent illegal gun trafficking. I have joined with over 200 other bipartisan lawmakers, and groups such as the National Rifle Association, in supporting a bill that would make it easier for lawful gun owners and dealers to comply with federal law and regulations, while ensuring that those who break the law are punished accordingly.

This legislation, H.R. 2296, would correct regulations that have resulted in law-abiding citizens being strongly penalized for insignificant technical violations—such as improper use of abbreviations, or filing records in the wrong order. It would also roll back unnecessary restrictions, correct errors, and ultimately focus our law enforcement operations on tracking the illegal use and trafficking of firearms."
