Black Conservatives Praise CBS, Focus on the Family and the Tebow Family

Washington, DC: Members of the Project 21 black leadership network are speaking out in support of Focus on the Family and the family of former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow for their efforts to air a pro-family commercial message during this weekend's Super Bowl broadcast.

Project 21 members are also praising the CBS television network for not giving in to pressure to not air the ad.

Lisa Fritsch: "Tim Tebow is one famous example of the countless children born in the face of challenging circumstances. These children deserve a voice and a right to life just like so many who have been traditionally discriminated against through poverty and racism. Their civil rights are exactly the same: to be given the chance at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I applaud CBS for recognizing the fundamental issue of the rights of the minority that, in this case, just happens to be a mother who chose life - and a life that has given so much back to others." But it's interesting that they have no apparent concern for other ads that feature women losing their clothing or being made the butt of jokes. This motivation to aggressively pursue the silencing of an ad contradicts the very essence of what they purport to stand for - choice. They can no longer hide behind glib, coded euphemisms designed to mask their true agenda. The curtain has been pulled back and the eugenicist genie has been unambiguously exposed." Focus on the Family bought commercial time during CBS's Super Bowl broadcast on February 7. While the ad is not available for review, it reportedly will feature Pam Tebow, who was advised to have an abortion for health reasons in 1987. She did not, and her son Tim grew up to play college football and won the Heisman Trophy in 2007.

Feminist groups are pressuring CBS, which has "moderated" its policy regarding advocacy ads, to pull the ad.

Project 21, established in 1992, is sponsored by the National Center for Public Policy Research (http://www.nationalcenter.org), a non-profit foundation established in 1982 and funded primarily from the gifts of over 100,000 recent individual donors.

As a result, Canada announced recently that it would no longer fund the UN agency. We shouldn’t be funding them either. "When President Obama met with House Republicans shortly after his inauguration, he was – in his own words – “dismissive and even derisive” of their concerns, tersely reminding them “I won.” With Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, Obama then embarked on the most radical agenda in recent memory, fully intent on fundamentally transforming America with a legislative agenda dubbed the “Big Bang” – stimulus, bailouts, cap and trade, socialized medicine, etc.

Republican Scott Brown was sworn in today as the junior senator from Massachusetts. Brown’s historic victory shocked the establishment and dramatically altered America’s political landscape. While President Obama has tried to ignore the impact of the Republican’s Massachusetts victory, he cannot ignore that Democrats have been denied their Senate super-majority and with it their ability to ram legislation through Congress. Key items on the president’s agenda are on life support.

With 41 votes in the Senate, Republicans are relevant once again. And with this change in the dynamics on Capitol Hill, President Obama has suddenly discovered the concept of bipartisan cooperation. That’s why he’s holding question and answer sessions with members of Congress, and once again reaching out to Republicans by promising to hold monthly meetings with the GOP leadership.

Obama spoke to Senate Democrats yesterday and appeared to extend an olive branch to the GOP, saying, “I told [the Republicans], I want to work together when we can, and I meant it.”

Really? How often have we heard White House officials, from the president down, refer to the GOP as “the party of no”? Remember Nancy Pelosi calling the town hall protestors “un-American”? Or Harry Reid mocking some concerned taxpayers as “evil mongers”?

The president also told Senate Democrats, “But I also made it clear that we’ll call them out when they say they want to work with us, and we extend a hand and get a fist in return.” This is nearly the same rhetoric Obama used last year in describing his outreach to the Islamofascists in Iran when he said, “…if countries like Iran are willing to unclench their fist, they will find an extended hand from us.”

Republicans were offering ideas, but Obama, Reid and Pelosi had been ignoring them because they could. (Watch this video to see the deception in Obama’s statement.)

Until today, Republicans couldn’t stop Obama’s agenda. That cap and trade and socialized medicine haven’t passed has nothing to do with GOP obstruction, and everything to do with division among Democrats. That Obama’s own party couldn’t agree just proves how radical his agenda really is. Republicans should feel no temptation to embrace it."

February 3, 2010 – Yesterday's Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) policy on gays and lesbians in the military was a pro-homosexual love fest among most of the Senators and the two panelists who spoke.

Department of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chief of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen both expressed their wholehearted support for permitting gays and lesbians to openly serve in the military.

President Obama wants the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law overturned by Congress and has directed Secretary Gates to begin changing Defense Department policies as soon as possible.

The President’s Priorities

It’s breathtaking how Democrat presidents insist on pushing radical agendas that the American people don’t want. Bill Clinton tried it and failed, but that’s not stopping Barack Obama. First he pushed socialized medicine, now he’s promoting open homosexuality in the military.

Friends, don’t be confused about this. The issue is not whether homosexuals can serve in the military, as Obama portrayed it in his State of the Union address. They can serve. They just can’t flaunt their orientation. The reasons are obvious. The military is a unique institution with the sole purpose of defending this country, not promoting radical agendas. In 1993, Congress codified several common sense regulations regarding military conduct, concluding that our Armed Forces constituted a “specialized society” that was “fundamentally different from civilian life” and “characterized by forced intimacy with little or no privacy.”

For example, imagine you have a daughter who serves in the military. Now imagine she tells you that effective immediately she must shower with men. We all know what that would do to morale and good order. If Obama gets his way, every heterosexual man or woman will put in the same difficult position by being forced to share showers and similar facilities with homosexual men or women. The damage to unit cohesion will be profound.

Recent polls of service members have found strong support for the existing policy. A 2008 survey conducted by the Military Times found that 58% of active duty members opposed lifting the ban on open homosexuality. The survey also found that nearly a quarter would consider leaving the service if the ban were repealed. While the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff may support repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” our friends at the Center for Military Readiness note that nearly 1,200 “retired Flag & General Officers for the Military, 51 of them of four-star rank” have signed a statement of support for the existing policy.

Why would any commander-in-chief do anything in the middle of two wars that would significantly undermine morale and lead to a mass exodus of experienced personnel when we need them most? Sadly, the president’s priorities do not appear to include promoting the best interests of our men and women in the military; he’d rather promote the radical agenda of the militant homosexual movement that played a major role in funding his campaign.

TAKE ACTION: In the middle of two wars and with the economy burdened by double-digit unemployment, Congress is wasting time holding hearings on this issue. Call your senators and representative today at 202-224-3121. Tell them to drop this radical agenda and fix the economy first!

The president’s budget calls for nearly $40 billion in higher taxes on oil, natural gas and coal companies. Yesterday I told you that the United States was building its military presence in the Middle East. Sadly, we remain dependent on foreign sources of energy, but the president’s policies will only discourage domestic energy production.

We’ll keep looking for any good news that might be buried in this budget, but I wouldn’t hold your breath. What this budget makes perfectly clear is that America cannot continue on this course much longer. The size and scope of government is simply too big. This level of spending is not sustainable, and it would be impossible to raise taxes high enough to pay for it. Washington desperately needs change, but Obama is offering only more of the same tried and failed liberal tax and spend policies of the past."

College student shoots home invader, saves 10 lives

Yet another reason to keep a gun in the house . . .

Several months ago, in the notoriously dangerous neighborhood of College Park in Atlanta, Georgia, two armed criminals broke into a house party of students.

After confiscating the group's valuables, the invaders split the men and women up into different rooms.

Witnesses say the perpetrators then counted their rounds and discussed if they had "enough" ammunition.

The students believe the gunmen were going to rape and murder the entire group of students, who were celebrating a birthday at the end of the semester.

However, one male student, whose identity is being protected by police and local media, retrieved a handgun from his backpack and fired at the thug who was detaining the men.

(That is: One smart student had prepared for a night in College Park, Atlanta.)

The criminal fled the apartment under the threat of injury and never returned.

The student, continuing on into the girls' room, found the other thug, 23-year-old Calvin Lavant, preparing to rape his first victim.

The student exchanged gunfire with Lavant, lethally wounding him in the process. Lavant fled through a window and died in front of his apartment, only one building away.

One of the female students was injured during the exchange, but doctors expect a full and complete recovery.

So what's the point

A student saved the girls from rape, and saved the whole group of 10 people (including himself) from murder . . . and he did it with a handgun.

This is a perfect example of how ludicrous "big city gun laws" are. What if this had happened in New York, Chicago, or any of the other big cities that criminalize their citizens' self defense?

Yes, we would be reading an entirely different story -- one so horrendous that we would shudder at the very words.

Either this whole group of friends would have been raped and murdered by these two sorry excuses for human beings . . . or the hero of this story would be facing prison time for firearm possession and murder.

Thankfully, however, Atlanta hasn't outlawed self-defense yet. And since someone had a gun and was willing to use it, innocent life was preserved.

Congratulations to the unnamed hero of this story. You saved your friends' lives.

Last week, a Vanderbilt University Muslim chaplain publicly acknowledged what those of us who study shariah Islamic law know.

Awadh Binhazim, when pressed on whether or not shariah Islamic law requires the death penalty for homosexuals, asserted that yes, it does.

Furthermore, he stated: “I don’t have a choice as a Muslim to accept or reject teachings.”

According to a January 29^th WorldNetDaily article, Awadh Binhazim is listed on the Vanderbilt website as “Adjunct Professor of Islam at the Divinity School” and is described by Vanderbilt University officials as “the university’s Muslim chaplain.”

Last week we applauded our friends at Focus on the Family and the Tebow family for having the courage to speak up for the sanctity of life in a 30-second Super Bowl ad. CBS is coming under a barrage of attacks from radical pro-abortion groups and the usual suspects on the Left for agreeing to air the ad.

Sarah Palin defended the ad last week, writing on her Facebook page, “Women should be reminded that they are strong enough and smart enough to make decisions that allow for career and educational opportunities while still giving their babies a chance at life.” Appearing on Fox News Thursday, Palin took on the National Organization for Women, saying, “For NOW to have chosen this... to come across sounding quite offended by hearing that a pro-life commercial will air on the Super Bowl day, it’s baffling.”

Palin is being polite. This is just one more example of the gross intolerance of the Left, attempting to silence speech it disagrees with. Even the New York Times chastised the Left for its “puzzling and dismaying” reaction.

More Groveling By Obama

For the life of me I really don't understand what in Heaven's name is going on here. When I first encountered it at Ace of Spades I thought they were pulling my chain. But the AP cut line makes clear what is going on:

"U.S. President Barack Obama bows to Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio at MacDill Air Force Base on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 in Tampa, Fla."

The mayor of Tampa isn't a Third World potentate, totalitarian dictator, or terrorist leader so I can't understand why Obama would be in full-bow mode. Is bowing now the standard way the President greets people these days? Is he misoriented, for some reason, and thinks Tampa is a terrorist stronghold or an enemy of the United States? Does the US owe Tampa a boatload of money and the bow just good business practice?
