Congressman Good Update: Standing with our Allies

Image

I returned to Washington this week to go back to work under the new leadership of Speaker Mike Johnson. Speaker Johnson is a trusted conservative who wants to change the way DC works, and Republicans are united behind him in support of his efforts to cut our spending and reverse the harmful Democrat policies.

The Republican House passed our seventh and eighth of the required 12 individual spending bills this week. Meanwhile, the Democrat Senate has only passed three bills. While we still have more work to do before the November 17 temporary funding deadline, we continue to make positive progress in our effort to pass all 12 bills for the first time in decades. We are trying to break the business-as-usual habits in Washington that have led to us borrowing about $200 billion every month and accumulating a crushing $33 trillion in debt.

Continuing to Stand with Israel

When Hamas' unprovoked and brutal terrorist attack on Israel caused the greatest single-day loss of Jewish life since the Holocaust, I joined the overwhelming majority of Americans expressing unwavering support for Israel. Sadly, we have also seen an outbreak of support for the perpetrators of terror—Hamas and Hezbollah—with protests on our city streets and college campuses. Free speech is protected in this country, but we should never condone support for terrorist acts like Hamas' brutal attack on Israel.

That is why I proudly supported and co-sponsored Rep. Burgess Owen's (R-UT) resolution to CONDEMN the rise of antisemitism at universities across this country. House Resolution 798 challenges college administrators to condemn antisemitism and require professors to focus on education instead of leftist indoctrination.

Even in our 5th District, the Students for Justice in Palestine at the University of Virginia (UVA) issued a statement declaring that the violence against Israel makes them "hopeful for the future of Palestine," implying that Israel was somehow deserving of the atrocities committed against them. To UVA's credit, the president issued a statement clearly condemning Hamas. However, many other university administrators were not as definitive in their responses.

I was also proud to continue my unwavering support for Israel by voting to provide the supplemental aid they need to defend themselves against the terrorists who wish to destroy them. Speaker Johnson was right to insist that Congress pay for Israeli aid by cutting President Biden's IRS expansion rather than borrowing billions of dollars more. President Biden's record spending has placed us in the worst fiscal crisis in American history and added unprecedented levels of debt.

Stopping Biden's Radical Climate Army

Americans are struggling to make ends meet because of Bidenomics. Instead of helping American families suffering from his sky-high energy prices, President Biden is focused on deploying a climate army that will further increase regulatory burdens on business owners and drive inflation even higher.

This week, I introduced the No American Climate Corps Act to fight Biden's climate extremism and defund his proposed 20,000-person climate corps.
