Weekly Wrap-Up with Congressman Byron Donalds – November 6, 2023

Last week, House Republicans were hard at work on Capitol Hill, passing legislation and offering commonsense solutions on behalf of the American people. As of Friday, the House of Representatives passed our seventh of twelve appropriations bills. This is our third appropriations bill passed in the last week and a half under the leadership of Speaker Johnson and our reunited House Republican conference.

Various bills were considered on the floor of the House of Representatives last week regarding Israel and the vile scourge of anti-Semitism sweeping across our nation. To be clear, I proudly stood with Jewish Americans and our ally Israel. I voted to sanction Hamas supporters, declare a nuclear Iran as unacceptable, aid Israel without funding Ukraine or spending new money, and to condemn anti-Semitism at our colleges and universities. I also voted against halting the censure of Rep. Rashida Tlaib for her heinous remarks towards Israel over the past month.

On the legislative front, I introduced my sixty-seventh and sixty-eighth pieces of legislation during the 118th Congress. The Bipartisan GIS Emergency Response Technology Sustainment Act establishes and funds a Search and Rescue Common Operations Program (SARCOP) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Hurricane Ian made evident that there is a critical need for efficient, cross-agency coordination during search and rescue missions in Southwest Florida and across our nation. We must ensure that disaster-prone communities across America are sufficiently prepared for when the next storm comes. This bill is the tenth proposal of my 2023-24 Natural Disaster Relief Package.

The Reform Immigration Through Biometrics Act is my sixty-eighth legislative proposal of the 118th Congress. This bill evaluates why DHS hasn't completed their statutory directive to establish a comprehensive biometric entry/exit system. We must demand action and accountability from Secretary Mayorkas to establish a comprehensive biometric apparatus at our points of entry.

Last week, I also partnered with colleagues to offer further legislative solutions. On Thursday, Florida Senator Rick Scott joined me in calling on TSA to deploy additional Explosive Detection Systems machines at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). With tourist season coming soon, if RSW's EDS machines fail, airport operations will be greatly impacted. Furthermore, Arkansas Congressman French Hill and I partnered on a bill to ensure our monetary policy is working to bring down inflation. Biden's mounting failures are impacting America with devastating consequences. Prices are sky-high and inflation is decimating our wallets. The sole focus of the Federal Reserve should be protecting purchasing power of the dollar.

My team was active in the community over the past week. We attended the Fort Myers Police Department's Promotion Ceremony, the groundbreaking for the expansion of the Lee County Public Safety Center's Emergency Operations Center, an event honoring local Holocaust survivor Eva Sands, and held interviews for our Military Academy Nominating Board. Eva is a celebrated member of our Southwest Florida community. As hateful anti-Semitism spreads, now more than ever we must share stories like Eva's, and stand with our Jewish neighbors.

As your Congressman, you have my commitment to work on your behalf and restore order and proper governance to The People's House.
