President Biden's policies have demonstrated his total lack of private sector experience. After just 16 months in office, he is the owner of the WORST economic record in modern history. The price of everything we need is rising at alarming rates. Moms and dads are driving all over town, using gas they cannot afford, looking for baby formula that simply isn't on the shelves. Nevertheless, Democrats want to double down on their President's terrible performance. This week, Democrats put a bill on the floor to dictate the design of apprenticeships. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) only funds government approved apprenticeships registered with the Department of Labor. I introduced an amendment to the legislation which would ensure that employers can run their own apprenticeship programs. Washington does not know best, and bureaucrats have no business telling employers how to educate their workforce. |
The Party of Death Fights to Legalize Murder Staying true to their reputation as the party of death, 49 Senate Democrats and 218 House Democrats have voted to make abortion up until live birth the law of the land. Over the past few weeks, pro-abortion activists have unlawfully protested outside Supreme Court Justices' homes, vandalized property, and committed arson – all to defend legalized murder. This week, I visited Life First Pregnancy Center in Virginia, where following the leak of the Supreme Court draft decision on Dobbs v. Jackson, their facilities were vandalized. Life First is dedicated to protecting life by providing compassionate care for mothers and fathers in difficult situations. And, I am proud to stand with them. |
Crisis After Crisis President Biden's radical policies are out of touch with the American people. On issue after issue, America would be better off today if the President would have done nothing. One of the promises the Biden Administration has kept is opening the Southern Border. America is feeling the brunt of 3 million border crossings as drugs, crime, and human trafficking flow into our country making, every town a border town. And, Democrats want to reward sanctuary cities that protect lawbreakers and demonize Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. I introduced an amendment to H.R. 604, which would cease funding of schools operating in sanctuary cities. Parents should not be stuck with the bill for the left's agenda to subsidize lawlessness. Democrats continue to cripple the American taxpayer by aiding other nations and making it harder for Americans to operate their own businesses here at home. The Department of Labor has made it more challenging for small businesses to operate, earn a decent profit, and pay their employees. This week the Democrats put forward H.R. 7701, the Wage Theft Prevention and Wage Recovery Act. This bill would allow the Department of Labor to impose highly inflated civil monetary penalties on all businesses, no matter the size of the error. This enforcement initiative would crush businesses which are still recovering from COVID lockdown policies. Here in Virginia, 25% of businesses closed permanently due to irrational government mandates imposed by our former Democrat governor. That is why I introduced a commonsense amendment to H.R. 7701, to protect our large and small businesses from another misguided attempt to handcuff the free market. Mainstreet CANNOT thrive if Congress continues to increase the cost of doing business through punitive penalties. |
Working For You This week I released a report on the work I have been doing on your behalf since being sworn into office. I hope you will take a few minutes to review it here. One of the most important, and rewarding, parts of my job is providing services directly to the people of the 5th District. - We have responded to over 43,250 messages from constituents in writing.
- We have helped resolve more than 2,335 cases our constituents had with federal agencies.
- We are currently working to cut through bureaucratic red tape for nearly 600 more Virginians.
- As a result, our office facilitated the successful return of more than $10 million in benefits owed to Virginians by their federal government.
Members of my team continue to travel around the 5th District to host Mobile Office Hours and bring you the convenience of meeting with a congressional staff member. On May 25, the team will be in Greene and Madison counties. On May 26, the team will be in Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties. You do not need to visit us during Mobile Office Hours to receive assistance from my office. Whether you need help with a federal agency, are trying to find out if federal grants are available for your local project, or are considering applying to a service academy, you can visit the following link to see how my staff and I are here to serve you: https://good.house.gov/services/help-federal-agency. I look forward to continuing to update you on my actions to keep our communities safe, fully open our economy, and put Americans first. For daily updates you can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Gettr. I will continue to do my best going forward to fight for you in Congress and for the principles that continue to make America the greatest nation in our history.
