Delegate Phillip Scott: Weekly Update

Friends, the Virginia General Assembly reconvened for Governor Youngkin's veto session. The Republican-controlled House of Delegates played our part in upholding the Governor's vetoes that stopped bad bills.

For example, HB 802 would have amended the Virginia Landlord and Tenant Act and would have given localities the authority to sue landlords in the same way tenants can. This would have created massive problems in housing and would have expanded government involvement rather than limiting it. We also upheld Governor Youngkin's veto of HB 573, which would have restricted certain businesses from collecting what they are owed beyond 3 years.

Budget negotiations taking place in the House and Senate Appropriations Committees are still in the works. As a result, the rest of the General Assembly is waiting on the sidelines until we are called to further litigate and vote on the budget.

I look forward to providing you further updates on the good, the bad, and the ugly of the budgeting process once the budget process develops further. And rest assured, I will be fighting for our shared conservative principles throughout this process.

In the meantime, I have been working with constituents to ensure that the government is working for them and helping expedite services through the bureaucracies. If you need help with these issues, let me know and my staff and I will be happy to help. The best way to reach us is by email at DelPScott@house.virginia.gov

On Saturday, I was appointed to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Board of Trustees. It is with deep gratitude that I notify you of this appointment. The Virginia colonies were the beginning of the greatest experiment ever conducted by man - the United States of America. This, the greatest nation in the history of the earth, all started when the colonists arrived to Jamestown in 1607. Virginia is more than a part of this great nation; it is the cradle of democracy, of our constitutional republic, of freedom, and of the highest ideals that man has ever set out before himself. We must ensure that we safeguard and uphold our history and that is what I intend to do in my role as a Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Board of Trustees member.
