Quote of the Day

"As conservatives, we like to think that we are not fooled by the liberal media. But I have to wonder at times. Their monopoly on the news is weakening, but their influence cannot be overstated. I received many messages from good folks who were frustrated and discouraged about the war. They were ready to give up and just wanted to “bring the boys home.” When Harry Reid declared the war lost, when Nancy Pelosi started demanding timetables for surrender, when John Murtha called our Marines “cold blooded killers,” they sowed seeds of doubt here at home, and our enemies were encouraged. We know from a recent Harvard study that attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq spiked following periods of negative news stories critical of our war effort.

Fortunately, patriots like John McCain and Joe Lieberman resisted the defeatists in Congress, on the political Left and in the media. They argued instead for courage and for victory, and they stood with President Bush when he made the difficult decision to send reinforcements to Iraq. They very likely saved us from the humiliation of seeing images of American helicopters taking off from the rooftop of the American Embassy in Baghdad under gunfire.

Had America cut and run from Iraq under fire and surrendered the country to the Islamofascist thugs who behead their captives and turn disabled women into bombs, our future would be dire indeed. Radical Islamists all over the world would have seen an America in decline, running from a fight, crawling away to the corner to lick its wounds and die. That’s exactly what they want, but we will only remain the land of the free as long as we are the home of the brave."
