Congress has Forgotten the Voters

Guest Columnist John J. Callahan

Regardless of what political party one believes in, it is important in this crucial time to take a hard look at how elected congressmen /congresswomen are handling the current problems of our nation. One must look at the government as one large business with the voters as the board of directors. As a whole, voters must evaluate the government’s performance on a continual basis. At the moment, neither party is performing satisfactorily. Both parties willingly signed a flawed “Stimulus Package” dedicating billions of dollars to various areas WITHOUT even reading this bill.

That’s a major error in any business. It is unacceptable performance and dereliction of duty. The voters should remove any and all members of congress who signed this package without reading it. Members of Congress are hired by voters (the board of directors) to provide various functions such as: provide a safe nation, a functioning economy, enforcement of all laws such as immigration laws, provide for American welfare and security prior to aiding foreign nations, treat failing businesses as private citizens, no bail outs to failed businesses, implement E-system verifications, remove our country from dependence on foreign resources, create no laws that infringe upon the rights of religious values, maintain a basic budget for simple necessities, eliminate all pork projects in every bill.

Currently this congress continues to sign off on trillions of dollars, without voter approval. Economist say that one cannot get out of debt by borrowing money or by raising taxes. This Congress is doing both, which is an unacceptable practice.

This administration has three times more debt than the last administration plus has allocated more funds in the first 100 days than all other presidents combined.

This congress is over stepping the laws of the Constitution, particularly in taking control of banks and businesses. The current congress is ignoring the Constitution destroying our liberties and not adhering to the direction of the people. Not only did Congress pass the largest spending bill in history without reading it, refused to secure our borders or enforce immigration laws, and are now preparing to spend billions on an amnesty program unauthorized by the voters. They illegally bailed out failing banks and insurance companies and forced privately owned car businesses to close. Congress does not have the authority in the Constitution to do any of these things. Now they are proposing a Cap and Trade bill that will force more taxes on everyone that uses gas, heating oil or natural gas.

As a member of the board of directors, I have reviewed congressional performances ,and recommend that we replace all those who voted for the Stimulus Package without reading the bill. This Congress has forgotten the people who voted them into office. It’s time to remind them who they represent by writing letters, calling or sending e-mails. If their performance does not improve, vote them out of office.
