CHATHAM, VA -- Congressman Robert Hurt (R-VA) today released the following statement in response to Terry McAuliffe's flip- flop on his support for Virginia energy:
"Offshore drilling will not only help America become energy independent but will also be a critical driver of economic growth and job creation for the entire Commonwealth. Clearing the way for safe offshore drilling is a policy platform Virginians -- Republican and Democrat -- support.
"Ken Cuccinelli understands Virginia must utilize our abundant sources of energy, including more traditional sources like clean coal. While Ken has been consistent in promoting an all-of-the-above energy strategy, his opponent is more than a little late to the party. Terry McAuliffe's decision to support off-shore oil exploration after clearly opposing it in the past is just the latest example of his willingness to let politics drive his policy positions. Energy policy is one of the core issues that will determine Virginia's immediate and longterm economic security. I believe Virginians deserve consistent and straightforward leadership on these critical issues."
