Nick Freitas Issues Response to Governor Northam's Veto of Sanctuary City Ban

CULPEPER, VA - Virginia Governor Ralph Northam broke a campaign promise and vetoed a bill that was designed to prohibit "sanctuary cities" in Virginia.

The bill, introduced by Ben Cline (R-24th), "provided that no locality shall adopt any ordinance, procedure, or policy that restricts the enforcement of federal immigration laws to less than the full extent permitted by federal law."

As a House Delegate, Nick Freitas voted for this bill, among others, which were designed to prohibit sanctuary cities within the Commonwealth.

Freitas released the following statement:

Ralph Northam's veto of this common sense measure promotes lawlessness and undermines the Rule of Law in this Country.

When a citizen of Virginia breaks a law, Northam prosecutes them and calls it justice. When a non-citizen breaks the law, Northam provides them a sanctuary and calls it compassion.

I adamantly oppose sanctuary cities, and I will vote to override the Governor's veto during our recall session.
