"I recognize that our nation's immigration system is broken, however, before we address other areas of immigration reform, we must first secure the southern border. Without taking this critical step, we will continually face the same issues we are experiencing now. When President Reagan granted mass amnesty in the 1980's, it did nothing to address the root cause of the problem. Our country cannot afford to work backwards on this issue. As we look to fix these problems, we must carefully evaluate the needs and abilities of our country. Once we take meaningful steps to secure our southern border, I am open to discussing long term solutions for DACA recipients and DREAMers."
