President Obama's 'Wild Misrepresentations'

President Obama hosted a townhall meeting yesterday afternoon that seemed more scripted than some of the soap operas that his broadcast was competing with. Not surprisingly, the meeting was carefully choreographed--so much so that the President couldn't find a single person to disagree with him. Apparently his was the only townhall in the entire country where there wasn't at least one voter opposed to a government takeover of health care. Unlike the millions of concerned citizens packed into local gymnasiums and city halls, this event was replete with a select group of White House cheerleaders. Even the little girl, who famously asked why the other side is so "mean," turned out to be the child of an Obama donor, who is important enough to have already met the First Family and Vice President Joe Biden at a previous fundraiser. Coincidence? As Michelle Malkin pointed out, there are no coincidences in this administration. What was more amazing than all this premeditation is how the President accused groups like FRC of engaging in "wild misrepresentations" while engaging in a series of incredible distortions himself.

The whoppers he told ranged from fudging the plan's list of supporters to the details of the plan itself. At one point he told the crowd, "We have the AARP on board because they know this is a good deal for our seniors." That was news to the AARP, who disputed the endorsement immediately after the townhall concluded. Tom Nelson, AARP's chief operating officer, told reporters, "Indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills... are inaccurate." The President also claimed, "Under the reform we're proposing, if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan." But an independent study commissioned by the Heritage Foundation actually found that 88.1 million people would be shifted out of their current employer-based plan.

As part of his pitch, the President also tried to compare his health care overhaul to the competition between FedEx and the U.S. Post Office. He said, "If you think about it, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine, right? No, they are. It's the Post Office that's always having problems." It's a false comparison for several reasons, but mainly because the U.S. Postal System is heavily regulated and, as a result, it's weighed down by federal mandates--just as the President's health plan would place burdensome new regulations on private insurance companies. That's why his statement is so revealing about why a government takeover of health care is not the solution. The American people are outraged because they don't want health care delivered with the empathy of the IRS, the efficiency of FEMA or the mismanagement of the Post Office. The Post Office lost $ 2.8 billion last year while giving a $ 135,000 "performance bonus" to its top executive. And because the USPS is federally run and funded monopoly, it is unaccountable for its perpetual fiscal mess--just like Medicare. That's not the kind of change the American people are hoping for.

Of course, the President's biggest misrepresentation was his insistence that he doesn't back a single-payer system. "I have not said that I was a single-payer supporter," he told yesterday's audience. Maybe he hasn't said it as President, but last August, candidate Obama told an Albuquerque townhall, "If I were designing a system from scratch, I would probably go ahead with a single-payer system." The bottom line, Mr. President, is that if you portray yourself as an honest man, it helps if you keep your facts straight.

Within hours of the White House saying it is going to "punch back twice as hard" against the thousands of fed-up patriotic Americans who are protesting the Left's plan to take over healthcare... there was physical violence at town hall meetings:

• At a town hall meeting with Rep. Kathy Castor in Tampa, Florida, as she was introduced, the reaction was overwhelmingly against her, with boos and chants of "You work for us." In the lobby, you could hear the counter of Planned Parenthood representatives shouting, "Healthcare Now." Shortly thereafter, violence erupted, where three big "goons" came out and started pushing and roughing up the people in line and in the hallway, at one point even using a chokehold on one of the people. Police officers on the scene did nothing to prevent the violence being perpetrated on these citizens trying to exercise their free speech rights -- citizens who far outnumbered those who were allowed to stay. • At a town hall meeting with Rep. Russ Carnahan in St. Louis, Missouri, police arrested six people for assaulting constituents who were opposed to the health care takeover. As reported locally, "Kenneth Gladney, 38, a conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with 'Don't tread on me' printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room at St. John's Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was awaiting treatment for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack." See the videos HERE!

But, Why Would Anyone Watch MSNBC?

Well, they're just doing their job as part of the state run media machine. No one expects to hear any truth in their propaganda. Still, Tony Perkins of Family Research Council Action, takes them to task for the latest smear in their disinformation campaign.

Truth Is Stranger than Friction

If FRC is the "fear machine" MSNBC says we are, then the side we're scaring must be the Left. All week long, our new health care ad has been the bee in these liberals' bonnets. Groups like NARAL, Planned Parenthood, Sojourners, and Catholics United are desperately trying to claw their way back into the health care debate after losing credibility on the abortion question. Our campaign to expose the abortion implications in health care "reform" has been so influential that one organization called us "the single greatest threat to the passage of health care reform." Why? Because the Left can say

1. The House bill specifically includes it. The Capps amendment explicitly allows abortion coverage in the public health plan and subsidizes health plans that cover abortion. (Passed 30-28 in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, July 30)

2. Senate Democrats admit it. "[The health care bill] would include, uh, it would include, uh, Planned, uh, Parenthood clinics." (Sen. Barbara Mikulski, July 9, Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions-HELP-Committee meeting-Planned Parenthood is the No. 1 U.S. abortion chain.)

3. Senate Democrats refused to ban it.
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah): "Madam Chairman, would you be willing to put some language in [about] not including abortion services? Then I think you would have more support."
Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.): "...No, I would not, uh, be willing to do that at this time." (July 9, Senate HELP Committee meeting)

4. The mainstream media confirms it. ("Government insurance would allow coverage for abortion," Associated Press, August 5, 2009).

5. The Obama administration includes it in its definition of reproductive health care.
"Reproductive health care includes access to abortion." (Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, July 19)

6. Every amendment to exclude it from health care legislation was defeated by the liberal sponsors. “Stop Talking!”

My friends, I’ve just seen an incredible video of the President of the United States speaking in my backyard, right here in Northern Virginia. He told a crowd that he doesn’t want to hear any more “talking” from folks who disagree with him. I’m stunned.

Here’s what President Obama said: “I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess. I don’t mind cleaning up after them, but don’t do a lot of talking." (You can watch the video here.)

What “mess” is he talking about? Is this it? Or maybe this. Regardless, in the birthplace of presidents -- the state that gave us George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison -- Obama essentially told conservative Americans to shut up. Our Founding Fathers risked their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to throw off the yoke of tyranny so that future generations might be blessed with freedom, including the freedom of speech.

But now, Obama expects us to sit down, shut up and go to the back of the bus, while he, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid take a hard left and drive us full speed toward European-style socialism. I am not going to sit down, and I hope you don’t either.

Senior citizens who went to a meeting sponsored by AARP were left to themselves after the AARP hostess walked out. The seniors were trying to get answers concerning ObamaCare and why AARP would support a government controlled health system that many believe would lead to euthanasia and rationing of health care. Why would AARP, the nation's largest seniors group, supposedly working for the elderly, support an ObamaCare bill? Here is what Dick Morris, former advisor to President Clinton, said: "The interest groups that usually speak up for the elderly, particularly AARP, are in Obama's pocket, hoping to profit from his program by becoming one of its vendors. Just as they backed Bush's prescription drug plan because they anticipated profiting from it, so they are now helping Obama gut the medical care of their constituents."

Like the National Education Association, AARP has been taken over by liberals. With millions of members, AARP is using its clout to push ObamaCare on the elderly, even if it includes euthanasia. AARP supported homosexual marriage by opposing Prop 8 in California.

Deeds Chooses Unions Over Children

Deeds Nods Head Approvingly as Union Head Bashes Obama School Policies

- VEA Opposes Charter Schools, Teacher Performance Pay in Opposition to Presidential Proposals -

- Backward-Looking Stance Foretells Loss of Millions to Virginia Schools -

RICHMOND - Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Pat Mullins today drew a sharp distinction between President Barack Obama and his party's standard bearer in the Virginia governor's race, Creigh Deeds, on the crucial issue of educational improvements and opportunities for all of Virginia's students. While Obama is a sincere supporter of innovative charter schools and incentive pay for excellent teachers, Deeds has adhered to the union line of doing business as usual at the expense of children who might otherwise have better choices for public schools.

"This is actually fairly shocking that Creigh Deeds would oppose these efforts put forward by President Obama," said Chairman Mullins. "To stand there and nod your head with approval as the head of a union talks about how bad it is to give students a better chance at an education is just breathtaking. I frankly didn't believe it until I saw the video clip from the event."

In her introduction of Deeds at a Virginia Education Association training meeting in Wytheville yesterday, VEA president Kitty Boitnott cautioned attendees about the dangers of charter schools and performance pay for teachers. Deeds, meanwhile, stood at her shoulder and nodded his head approvingly in agreement.

"[Creigh Deeds'] opponent is a proponent of charter schools and merit pay," Boitnott said. "Right now [Bob McDonnell] is using a strategy that would lull people - those who are in favor of charter schools and merit pay - lull them into the fold by saying that these are things that President Obama and Secretary [of Education Arne] Duncan also promote, which is true to a certain extent."

It was then that Boitnott revealed the true strategy of the Deeds campaign and the union - to derail the president's plan to improve educational options for children in Virginia and other states.

"But what they're not telling you is that President Obama's people and Secretary Duncan's people are meeting with members and staff of the [National Education Association] on a regular basis and working out - it's always the Devil in the details with any union issue - so we're working very closely with the administration so that we can try to craft policies that will not be detrimental to the public education programs that we have supported," Boitnott said.

Deeds was characteristically in line with whatever the union had to say, gushing as soon as Boitnott yielded the floor: "What Kitty's talking about - you have to always look for innovations in education. We gotta keep an open mind about a lot of things. But there's some places we just draw lines in the sand."

The Deeds-VEA position is in dramatic opposition to a $4.35 billion education package that Obama outlined just last month that dangles the school funding to states, contingent on their willingness to embrace charter schools and teacher performance pay.

"Warning that states can increase or decrease their odds of winning federal support through their policies, Duncan said states that cap the number of charter schools or fail to hold such schools accountable, for example, ‘will be at a disadvantage,' and those that prohibit linking student performance to teacher evaluations ‘will be ineligible' for the funding, reported the Washington Post. "Several states, including New York, California and Wisconsin, bar such linkages, which also are generally opposed by teachers unions."

Meanwhile, Deeds' union endorser, VEA union president Kitty Boitnott penned an opinion piece that appeared in the very same publication entitled "Charter Schools Aren't the Solution for Virginia." In the piece, Boitnott wrote, "The Obama administration and The Post are fascinated with charter schools, but charters do not make sense for Virginia. Maybe charter schools are needed in the District or Chicago, but in Virginia they are a solution looking for a problem."

Charter schools are public schools that are free of some regulation that usually accompanies traditional schools, but must adhere to a performance standard and a measure of success as set by their establishment. History shows that they are successful and are heavily favored in urban environments where normal public schools are struggling to meet the needs of students.

Republican candidate for governor Bob McDonnell is a strong proponent of charter schools, as evidenced by his proposal for expanding them, found here.

"What I just find astounding is that Creigh Deeds would stand in the way of children getting a good education just because he coveted the endorsement of a particular union," Chairman Mullins said. "It just makes you scratch your head and wonder what kind of governor he would be, and just exactly who he would listen to. In this case, it certainly isn't the President of the United States or the children and parents of Virginia."
