George Allen: Stop This Unsustainable Spending

"This week the liberals in Washington like Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and President Obama proved they are ignoring the voices of We the People who are demanding that Washington rein in government spending. Rather than tackle our fiscal crisis head-on, President Obama introduced a budget that will add at least $13 trillion to our debt by borrowing more, taxing more and allowing Washington to continue to live beyond its means. Just four years ago, the budget deficit was at a problematic $160 billion. Today it is ten times that amount and the problem is worse.

We also marked the two-year anniversary of the $800 billion jobless stimulus bill that promised to keep unemployment under 8%. Instead, the American people have suffered through 21 months of over 9-percent unemployment, 2.6 million jobs lost and a record $14 trillion in national debt.

It is clear that the policies President Obama and his liberal friends in Washington have advocated have only increased the amount of debt our children will have to bear and have done nothing to create jobs. We need to start executing our nation’s budget with the same discipline that small businesses and families use across the country. We must work to reduce taxes on job creators, regulate the unelected regulators, unleash our plentiful energy resources to create more jobs and finally embrace a balanced budget.

The 2012 election is going to be pivotal in determining the trajectory of our country. It is more important than ever to stop this unsustainable spending coming out of Washington."
