Time to Stand and Remain Standing

March 17, 2011

By Travis Witt

It is time for We, the People to stand up and be counted. Three weeks from now on April 8, there will be another Continuing Resolution (CR) because the Democrats willfully chose to ignore their Constitutional responsibility to pass a budget in 2010. Will the Republicans stand up and say “NO more CR! Enough is enough!”? They will, only if they know how tired we are of lip service.

The Republicans cut 6 billion dollars over the next three weeks – big deal. The debt in February 2011 alone was over $225 billion – the total debt for the entire year of 2007 was just over $150 billion. In February 2011 the debt (money that needed to be borrowed) was $8 billion a day! But we should be thankful that the Republicans cut $285 million or 3% of the debt? Excuse me? Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s remarks – “crap!” We are $14 trillion in debt and Democrats call Republicans mean-spirited for attempting to cut NPR and Cowboy poetry? Give me a break!

...Time is of the essence. We must write, call, and email our representatives and the Republican Party leadership. They are still not listening or refusing to remember the message of November 2010. I do not want to tell my children two years from now that their dad knew the problems but remained silent. No one who cares about this great nation can remain silent. For me, there are no excuses for inaction.

Tell the Republicans to cut $105 billion that Democrats quietly put in to cover initial Obamacare costs. Shut the government down if necessary! As Mike Pence stated, “It is time to pick a fight.”

For me, I am tired of the political pandering as Republicans wonder if they will be blamed for a government shutdown. They promised to act. Now it is time for House Republican leadership to force the Senate to declare their opposition to budget cuts.

Keep the pressure on. Later in April, there will be a vote to increase the debt ceiling beyond $14.3 trillion. If the Republicans vote no, then the Federal government will be forced to spend only what it receives. What a novel idea! Only spend what you make? Creative concept!!

Will Republicans have the backbone and stand strong? Absolutely, if they believe that We, the People support them and tell them to act according to OUR wishes. It is time for conservatives to demand that those who represent us listen. If there are no cuts now while we still can cut, the future of our children and grandchildren will be the responsibility of all who choose not to get involved and act.

It is my opinion that things in Washington are deteriorating so rapidly that if we do not act consistently between now and November 2012, our chances of saving the Republic as we know it will be lost.

Below are the addresses of the Republican leadership and several VA representatives. If you can, send a post card (they get it the next day and will know you took the time to write rather than cut and paste).
