Curbing Deficit Pretending
"I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits, either now or in the future...period." Believe it or not, that was what President Barack Obama promised the last time he addressed a joint session of Congress on September 9, 2009 . To this day, he and other Democratic leaders insist that the House and Senate versions of health care reform would reduce the deficit. Of course, their claim was refuted by the Congressional Budget Office when it released a report that the Democrats were exaggerating (and in most cases double counting) the revenue streams that would be created to offset the costs of the bill. As the Examiner first reported, the Senate-approved plan would create a $170 billion budget deficit. The President's right. He wouldn't be adding one dime to the deficit--he'd be adding 1,700,000,000,000!
