Robert Hurt Statement On The National Security And Job Protection Act
WASHINGTON,
D.C. – Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) today released
the following statement after voting in favor of the National Security and Job
Protection Act. This legislation will ensure that devastating cuts to our
military will not take place at the year’s end and will require the President
to put forth his plan to replace these impending cuts:
“With each day that goes
by, we inch closer the so-called fiscal cliff, which is projected to
plunge our economy into a deep recession and destroy thousands of jobs across
the Commonwealth by devastating our military and raising taxes on families and
small businesses. Unfortunately, those of us in the House of Representatives are
the only ones who fully appreciate the devastating impacts this will have on
our local communities. While the House has offered a plan to replace these
irresponsible, across-the-board cuts, the Senate and the White House refuse to
take a seat at the table.
“The
American people have asked the President to explain how the sequester will
impact the country – he missed the deadline to do so. Now, we face a much
more critical deadline as failure to address this situation now will send us
over the cliff on January 1st. This is a deadline the President
cannot afford to miss and it is my hope that the White House and the Senate
will heed the calls of the American people and join with the House in
addressing the impending crisis so we can keep our military men and women
adequately equipped, protect jobs across the 5th District and
the Commonwealth, and reduce our national debt in a responsible manner.”
