Quote of the Day

"The reason anti-jihadists are trying to ban sharia is to avoid having U.S. judges cite it as in any way authoritative—which is precisely what Muslim supremacists want to see happen. Inspired as they are by the orthodox tenets of their religion, they believe... that the Quran and the Sunnah—the sources of sharia—are the only legitimate sources of sovereignty on earth. Everything else, including the U.S. Constitution and the will of the people, is a blasphemous usurpation of divine authority.

Knowing what we do of how Islam advances its power, slipping a pseudopod in through every gap that presents itself, then claiming that its grip is inviolable and irrevocable, it's essential that those of us who reject the Muslim claim to universal sovereignty slam every door tight against its legitimization."

Tell Legislators to Vote YES to Gov. McDonnell's Amendment to HB 2434

from Victoria Cobb, President, The Family Foundation of Virginia

Action Alert: Support Pro-Life Amendment from Governor

Late Tuesday night, Governor Bob McDonnell handed down a pro-life amendment that The Family Foundation had been strongly urging. This amendment to Delegate Terry Kilgore’s HB 2434 directing the Commonwealth to set up health exchanges in accordance with the federal health insurance overhaul, restricts Virginia’s health insurance exchanges from covering abortion services, except in cases of rape, incest, or life of the mother. Without a change like the Government’s amendment, pro-life citizens opposed to abortion will be mandated to fund this unethical destruction of human life.

Now, the General Assembly must accept the Governor’s amendment at next Wednesday’s veto session. During this year’s General Assembly session, similar health insurance abortion funding opt-out language was passed by the House of Delegates twice with overwhelming majorities, but was defeated in the Senate. Actually, a procedural vote was taken at the end of session to strike a bill almost identical to the Government’s language, and the senate vote unfortunately fell 22-18 on party lines. Since the Governor’s language is strictly a policy vote, not a procedural vote, we hope to urge at least two pro-life democrats to support the amendment.

And that is really where the battle lies. Regardless of what actions are taken by the Governor, the state Senate has been the body that has blocked nearly every pro-life effort for several years. Over the next week, we will be mobilizing citizens across Virginia to contact key Senators to make sure they know the citizens of Virginia want this amendment passed. It is clear that it will not be until the state Senate reflects the values of Virginia that we will see many victories. The opportunity to make those changes is quickly approaching, as all 40 Senate seats are up for election in November.

We believe the key to sustaining the amendment lies with five key legislators: Senators Fred Quayle (R-13, Suffolk), John Watkins (R-10, Midlothian), Roscoe Reynolds (D-20, Martinsville), Chuck Colgan (D-29, Manassas), and Phil Puckett (D-38, Tazewell). Contact these legislators today and urge them to vote yes on Governor McDonnell’s amendment to HB 2434: an abortion funding opt-out for health insurance exchanges.

You can contact them by email by clicking the link below or by phone:

Senator Quayle: 757-483-9173

Senator Watkins: 804-379-2063

Senator Reynolds: 276-638-2315

Senator Colgan: 703-368-0300

Senator Puckett: 276-979-8181

ACTION: Please contact these five Senators immediately and urge them to vote yes on Governor McDonnell pro-life amendment to HB 2434: an abortion funding opt-out for health insurance exchanges.

Help These Families in Need

from Ken Cuccinelli, II, Attorney General of Virginia

Today, I am writing you about a tragedy much closer to home.

On March 13, two sheriff's deputies were fatally shot when responding to a report of a robbery at a local salvage yard in Vansant, Virginia.

Shortly after, when sheriff's deputies were pursuing the suspect - two more deputies were shot. Thankfully these two wounded sheriffs appear to be recuperating - but they still have a long way to go to recover.

Law enforcement officers who serve their community bravely and honorably place their lives on the line each day they go to work. It is incumbent upon us as Virginians, and Americans, to do what we can to help those who keep us safe.

A relief fund has been set up to support the families of the four deputies who were shot this month. If you're able - please consider assisting the families affected by this horrid shooting.

Can you help these families in need? All the proceeds will go directly to the families of the officers shot on the 13th.

If you can - please direct your checks to the following:

Deputies' Relief Fund

Grundy VA 24614

Thank you all, once again, for your help.

Quotes of the Day

"A coalition of fiscally conservative and socially conservative groups is putting pressure on members of Congress to get serious about cutting the budget. Congress must set priorities for our limited tax dollars. We are asking congressmen to do just that, and to start by defunding Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion business.

Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to having their hard-earned tax dollars used to subsidize abortions. It is a bad idea even in good economic times. But these are not good economic times. With annual deficits of $1.5 trillion, America is in a fiscal crisis. Now is the time to make your voice heard.

Members of Congress are back home this week for a district work period. Call your representative and senators at their district and state offices today. Tell them that you don't your tax dollars subsidizing the abortion industry. Use our online Congressional Directory to find local contact information for your members of Congress. Please call today! For more information, watch this brief video from Lila Rose, who recently exposed Planned Parenthood's willingness to cover up child sex trafficking."

"The president’s most infamous falsehood, however, was his claim that the government takeover would allow Americans who like their current health plans to keep them. This is far from the case. Countless businesses have gone on record saying they will either have to cut benefits or cut employees from coverage altogether because of the legislation’s immensely onerous new regulations. The Obama administration has finally — and begrudgingly — acknowledged this, having now granted over a thousand “Obamacare waivers” to exempt various city governments, loyal labor unions, and well-heeled mega-corporations from the burden small businesses must struggle to meet. It seems waivers are no longer the exception, but the rule."

iTunes Latest Decision? App-alling!

Apple's old logo was colored by the rainbow--and it looks like their business philosophy still is! In a stunning decision, Apple withered under pressure from the gay community and censored an application that offers help to people struggling with homosexuality. The ex-app for ex-gays was created by Exodus International--and before this week, it had a 4+ rating from the iTunes store. Even though Apple's own store gave Exodus a thumbs-up for content, the app vanished overnight--another victim of growing campaign to silence Christianity in America. Until yesterday, Apple declined to comment on the decision. Finally, spokesman Tom Neumayr told Fox News that the free app "violates the developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people." He was referring to the 146,000 people who signed a petition to kick Exodus off the store. "There is no place for 'ex-gay' therapy on the Apple platform," said Mike Jones, whose fringe group started the uproar.

Ironically, there seems to be plenty of room for applications like the Gay/Lesbian News Reader, HRC Buying for Workplace Equality Guide, Jack'd gay "social network," Grindr "gay, bi & curious guy finder," or Gay Dance Radio. What about the millions of Americans who are offended by those apps? Would 146,000 signatures be enough to rid iTunes of them? For an industry that is supposedly on the cutting edge, it's shocking that Apple would be a part of any movement whose goal is gagging free speech--the very foundation of the mainstream media. It's an amazing double standard, but hardly a new double standard where Apple is concerned. Last November, the same company booted the Manhattan Declaration from its store because it held to a biblical worldview of marriage. (Of course, Apple made no secret of its agenda in 2008 when it donated $100,000 to defeat Proposition 8.) In this instance, all Exodus does is offer compassion and help for people who choose to seek it. No one is forcing homosexuals to download the application and change their lifestyle. And now, Apple has decided that even customers who want help won't get it! How sympathetic is that?

Jeff Buchanan of Exodus is tired of the app being misrepresented in the press. "It's being touted as a 'gay cure' app," he says, "and nothing could be further from the truth. We present a redemptive, Biblical worldview on sexuality... it's a message of love and acceptance of those [who] are struggling with same-sex attraction." In other words, Apple's censorship has nothing to do with "tolerance." This is about silencing anything and anyone who challenges homosexuality. Americans need to wake up and realize that religious liberty is heading in the same direction as Exodus's app--toward extinction! In this environment, it doesn't matter what the facts are. If they contradict the homosexual agenda, the Left will do everything it can to muzzle them. Our form of democracy will not long survive if the freedom of speech and religion are lost.

Meanwhile, liberals are on a crusade to end bullying--when the biggest bullies are the ones in their own movement! Decisions like Apple's are rooted in the same anti-Christian prejudice that's led to the Left's persecution of donors, businesses, voters, churches, and even students. What do you call 146,000 people ganging up on a company because they don't like someone else's point of view? Bullies! They have to resort to intimidation because they know the rest of the country isn't with them. They also know that if they had to debate conservatives out in the open on issues like marriage and morality, they'd lose! If you're an iTunes user, contact Apple and tell them that squashing free speech is bad for business. Ask them to show real tolerance and reinstate the Exodus app! For more on the topic, check out Peter Sprigg on Fox 5 News.

March 31st: TEA Party Rally in D.C.

On Thursday, March 31, 2011, Tea Party Patriots will be holding a Continuing Revolution Rally on the East Side of the Capitol Building from noon to 1:30pm. While the Congress continues "business-as-usual" with their short term continuing resolutions, we will be there to Continue our Tea Party Revolution and demand they make the tough decisions we sent them there to make.

  • We sent them there to repeal Obama Care and they did, but if they are serious about that vote they won't let another CR pass without removing the $105 Billion in funds already appropriated to Obama Care.
  • We sent them there to cut spending and while they may tell you that they have cut $10 Billion from the budget in a 3 week period, the same day that the last CR passed in the House, an additional $72 Billion was added to deficit... in ONE DAY.
  • They pledged to us that they were going to cut $100 Billion in spending this fiscal year, so far they have failed to follow through on that pledge.
  • We sent them there to make tough decisions, to be leaders, and yet they are timidly passing mediocre spending reforms as if they are avoiding conflict with the Democrats.
  • We sent them there to be BOLD and yet their actions are showing otherwise.
This is merely a continuation of the battles fought over the last two years. Help us continue to gain ground and build on the successes we've had. They are testing the waters and waiting for us to go away. We're not going away! Will you stand on the steps of the Capitol with us next Thursday to help send that message to them loud and clear? Click here to let us know and be on the look out for more details.

Quote of the Day

..."Secretary Hillary Clinton is already knee-deep in her goodwill tour for abortion. No sooner was she sworn in than the State Department starting ganging up on other countries to recognize the killing of unborn children as a "basic right." When the Kenyan government was drafting its new constitution, who was there lobbying for legalized abortion? Groups funded by the U.S. State Department. In that instance, our efforts were not only unethical but illegal. Now the administration is trying to do abroad what it started at home: forcing tolerance at the expense of free speech."

The Left Just Doesn't Get It

By Gary Bauer
Campaign for Working Families

When it comes to job growth and securing America's energy needs, leftists just don't get it. At a press conference on job creation last week, Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ) was asked about the potential of new jobs through expanded offshore oil drilling. His response: "…drilling for oil off the coast is a problem, not a solution… I wouldn't vote for it because I think it's a poor idea."

Rarely does the ignorance of liberals surprise me, but Rep. Andrews achieved a rare feat with that stunning display of stupidity. America's energy industry is responsible for the creation of more than nine million jobs in this country. If the bureaucrats and liberals like Andrews would get out of the way, it could create a lot more!

While Andrews was bashing energy jobs, USA Today featured a story about the economic miracle taking place in North Dakota, where the unemployment rate is the nation's lowest at just 4.5%. How has North Dakota defied the trend during Obama's recession? According to USA Today: "North Dakota is enjoying an oil boom in the western part of the state, drawing workers from across the country."

Contrast North Dakota's success to the pain the administration is inflicting on the Gulf Coast. Dr. Joseph Mason of Louisiana State University testified before Congress last week on the impact of the Obama Administration's moratorium on offshore drilling. According to Dr. Mason, Obama's moratorium has cost 13,000 jobs in Gulf states, another 6,000 jobs nationally and more than $1 billion in lost wages.

If that's not enough damage, Obama's EPA last week imposed new regulations on coal-fired power plants. Half of America's electricity comes from coal plants, but a report from Credit Suisse bank last year found that these regulations could force nearly 20% of America's coal-fired power plants to shut down. Even many labor unions are getting upset by this administration's radical overregulation.

But at least Barack Obama does have some good news for oil workers. He is backing, with your tax dollars, a major new drilling project -- in Brazil! In an op-ed last week defending his Latin American trip, Obama wrote, "Brazil holds recently discovered oil reserves that could be far larger than ours, and as we seek to increase secure-energy supplies, we look forward to developing a strategic energy partnership."

Rather than promoting job growth in Brazil, we should develop secure-energy supplies by developing our own tremendous domestic energy reserves. Unfortunately, when it comes to energy policy and job growth, Democrats just don't get it.

Thursday - JATP: We Have Your Back Rally

We Have Your Back
(IF you drastically cut spending and de-fund ObamaCare)

March 24
11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Congressman Robert Hurt's District Office
686 Berkmar Circle, Charlottesville
(At the intersection of Berkmar Drive and West Rio Road across from Charlottesville Piano Company)

Do you think the Republican establishment truly grasps the urgency of America's dire fiscal situation? Are you as content as they seem to be with $10 billion in cuts made over the last five weeks, which is equal to 0.07% of the national debt and the equivalent of what the United States (not counting unfunded liabilities) borrows every two and a half days?

While we commended Congressman Hurt for honoring his pledge to vote for the repeal of ObamaCare, he voted last week to pass a Continuing Resolution to prevent a government shutdown, resulting in appropriations of $105 billion for the bureaucracy and infrastructure of government-run health care. No one can slay a beast with one hand while feeding it under the table with the other.

If the Democrats insist on spending us into oblivion, holding the budget process hostage, and forcing a government shutdown, let it be on them alone. Conservatives should STOP aiding and abetting.

No more Continuing Resolutions. No more funding for ObamaCare. It's time to draw a line in the fiscal sand.

Join the Jefferson Area Tea Party as we gather to send Congressman Hurt the message that if he returns to Washington next week to advocate deep spending cuts, to align himself with those fighting for true reform, and to resist the allure of GOP establishment business-as-usual -- WE HAVE HIS BACK. We want him to lead rather than follow, and govern with boldness.

Bring a sign. Bring a friend.

Tell Congressman Hurt to hold the line and do the tough job his constituents sent him to do.

Hold him to his recent promise to vote against any more Continuing Resolutions:

Tell him to support the Government Accountability Office (GAO) report identifying $100 billion in waste:

Most importantly, remind him of our expectations and that we are watching!

Our rally will be short and we want LOTS of patriots there! Please make every effort to attend. If you absolutely cannot join us at 11:00 a.m., you are encouraged to stop by his office sometime during the day and leave a message for him. Let's avoid phone calls and put a steady flow of traffic at his office throughout the day.

Mr. DeWeese is one of the nation's leading advocates of individual liberty, back-to-basics education, and American sovereignty and independence. Sustainable Development calls for changing the very infrastructure of the nation, away from private ownership and control of property to nothing short of central planning of the entire economy – often referred to as top-down control.

Truly, Sustainable Development is designed to change our way of life. In short, it’s all about wealth redistribution. Your wealth into a green rat hole.

During the Cold War, communists tried to get us to surrender our liberties and way of life for the wisdom of Karl Marx. Americans didn’t buy it. But now, they have taken the same clap trap and wrapped it all in a nice green blanket, scaring us with horror stories about the human destruction of the environment – and so we are now throwing our liberties on the bonfire like a good old fashioned book burning -- all in the name of protecting the planet.

Time to Stand and Remain Standing

March 17, 2011

By Travis Witt

It is time for We, the People to stand up and be counted. Three weeks from now on April 8, there will be another Continuing Resolution (CR) because the Democrats willfully chose to ignore their Constitutional responsibility to pass a budget in 2010. Will the Republicans stand up and say “NO more CR! Enough is enough!”? They will, only if they know how tired we are of lip service.

The Republicans cut 6 billion dollars over the next three weeks – big deal. The debt in February 2011 alone was over $225 billion – the total debt for the entire year of 2007 was just over $150 billion. In February 2011 the debt (money that needed to be borrowed) was $8 billion a day! But we should be thankful that the Republicans cut $285 million or 3% of the debt? Excuse me? Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s remarks – “crap!” We are $14 trillion in debt and Democrats call Republicans mean-spirited for attempting to cut NPR and Cowboy poetry? Give me a break!

...Time is of the essence. We must write, call, and email our representatives and the Republican Party leadership. They are still not listening or refusing to remember the message of November 2010. I do not want to tell my children two years from now that their dad knew the problems but remained silent. No one who cares about this great nation can remain silent. For me, there are no excuses for inaction.

Tell the Republicans to cut $105 billion that Democrats quietly put in to cover initial Obamacare costs. Shut the government down if necessary! As Mike Pence stated, “It is time to pick a fight.”

For me, I am tired of the political pandering as Republicans wonder if they will be blamed for a government shutdown. They promised to act. Now it is time for House Republican leadership to force the Senate to declare their opposition to budget cuts.

Keep the pressure on. Later in April, there will be a vote to increase the debt ceiling beyond $14.3 trillion. If the Republicans vote no, then the Federal government will be forced to spend only what it receives. What a novel idea! Only spend what you make? Creative concept!!

Will Republicans have the backbone and stand strong? Absolutely, if they believe that We, the People support them and tell them to act according to OUR wishes. It is time for conservatives to demand that those who represent us listen. If there are no cuts now while we still can cut, the future of our children and grandchildren will be the responsibility of all who choose not to get involved and act.

It is my opinion that things in Washington are deteriorating so rapidly that if we do not act consistently between now and November 2012, our chances of saving the Republic as we know it will be lost.

Below are the addresses of the Republican leadership and several VA representatives. If you can, send a post card (they get it the next day and will know you took the time to write rather than cut and paste).
