"During the presidential campaign, former Secretary of State Colin Powell made headlines by endorsing Barack Obama. His stated reasons for doing so were clearly taken from a list of Democrat talking points. By backing Obama, Powell turned his back on the party that is largely responsible for his personal success.
It was Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush who promoted him through the ranks in the military, ultimately making him Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the first Gulf War. And it was President George W. Bush who appointed Powell Secretary of State. Yet, proving the old Washington saying that “No good deed goes unpunished,” the former general endorsed the community organizer over the war hero.
As one of the media’s favorite Republicans, Powell is unfortunately continuing to make headlines as a Republican willing to bash the Republican Party. In an interview scheduled to air on CNN this weekend, Powell has the gall to lecture the Republican Party and conservatives, like Rush Limbaugh, for “appealing to lesser instincts.”
He suggests Sarah Palin had a “polarizing effect” for appealing to “small town values,” and added, “I don’t think she contributed to the ticket this time.” With all due respect to the general, I disagree with his analysis. I respect his service to our country, but if he is going to continue his political punditry, I suggest he switch parties. He never has been a conservative and, frankly, given his increasingly leftist views, it’s not even clear why he is a Republican."
