Mark Warner: A Tangled Web of Deceit

An update from Jesse Mallory, NOVA Political Director for the Jim Gilmore for Senate Campaign, reveals how Democrat Mark Warner has played fast and loose with the truth in his single-minded quest for power.
"Warner’s record as Governor of Virginia riddled with holes. The hallmark of Warner’s legacy as Governor was fixing an alleged “$6 billion deficit.” In fact, his campaign commercials and website seem to harp on this fictional allegation. Unfortunately for Mark Warner, the facts say otherwise. On July 17, 2008 the Associated Press uncovered the truth behind Mark Warner’s lies.

Q: Did Virginia government really have a $6 billion deficit?

A: No. A deficit means the state could not pay its year-end bills. That's unconstitutional for Virginia government, and it never occurred.

...

Q: Did Gilmore cause the shortfalls?

A: No.

The Baltimore Examiner even decided to chime in on the trustworthiness of Mark Warner.

...Mark Warner, now running for the U.S. Senate, also was a cipher when he ran for governor in 2001. Having made an estimated $200 million fortune brokering spectrum licenses — the airwaves upon which cell phone calls are transmitted — Warner set his sights on the acquisition of power. Like Obama, he parlayed his inexperience as an engine for change.

“The old style of politics of saying anything to get elected is not what we need,” candidate Warner said. When his Republican opponent, Mark Earley, warned that Warner would raise taxes if elected, Warner said, “The fact is that I will not raise taxes. My plan states it. I’ve said it throughout this campaign. And no matter how many times my opponent may say otherwise, I will not raise your taxes.”

Once elected, Warner proudly presided over the largest tax increase in Virginia’s history.

Other than that breathtaking deceit, he accomplished virtually nothing as governor...

We need a candidate we can trust in the United States Senate.

That candidate is Jim Gilmore who keeps his promises and does what he says he is going to do."
