Fact From History
Charles Curtis, who was part Kansas Indian, served as the first Native American Vice President of the United States under President Herbert Hoover.
Curtis served in the US House of Representatives from 1893-1907 and in the US Senate, from 1907 until he was elected Vice President in 1928. As Majority Leader under President Woodrow Wilson in 1919, Curtis led the fight for women's suffrage.
